Especially after what we did to Alberto Gonzales.

Says the Tool who listens to Glenn Beck Cry about the Questions being asked of Sotomayor----- when not one question had yet to be asked.

I see the dumbassness is spreading.

video.google.com

So we have someone who got into a tier 1 school without the test scores and the grades (read this as Not as Smart or As Motivated) that instead of interpreting the law as written interjects her own bias (" A Latino woman....more than a white male") (" The court is where Policy is made....") Can you imagine the outrage if this was a conservative white guy saying this? Even BORK did not go anywhere near this level of bias.

This is what you get with Affirmative Action; Less skilled people given jobs because of their ethnicity - not based on their skills.

And this is what YOU WANT in the Supreme Court? You want it to act like the Supreme Mulahs do in IRAN? Potificating and forcing personal views on the populace?

We said Barry was dangerous (screwing with our allies and buddying up to our enemies), weak (let just let North Korea and Iran do what they want) and left wing...he has proven that.

Sotomayor is the same - a less than qualified person being pushed on the American populace by the media. And you stooges who are not capable of thinking of the wider implecations

If anyone has a Senate Judiciary Committee drinking game for when Jeff Sessions says "disappointed," they're at risk of alcohol poisoning.

So we have someone who got into a tier 1 school without the test scores and the grades (read this as Not as Smart or As Motivated) ...

Sotomayor graduated from college with an award as the top undergraduate. There's absolutely no question about her intelligence or her motivation.

a less than qualified person

You're joking right?

Because she is more qualified than every right wing justice was when they were nominated, by a long shot.

Tell me you were joking.

The amount of unhappiness Sotomayor seems to be creating among the righties makes me smile cuz she will be approved by the Senate.

"We said Barry was dangerous"

Nothing Funnier than hearing the very same people who Hoisted that bat-shit crazy, uneducated, inarticulate, pre-menopausal and simpleton fundamentalist lactater Known as Sarah Palin ---------- crying on about how "dangerous" Obama is!

Priceless!

If "rich" could be bottled and sold ----- the "right" could retire!

Alberto Gonzales was a Bush appointee similar to Harriet Myers.... in way over his head.

"Especially after what we did to Alberto Gonzales."

This is where a Certified DingDong shows His Love for an Anchor Baby!

The Irony is already overpowering but when you add in the fact that a Hispanic Hater uses another Hispanic as leverage, especially one who parents came here illegally, it's almost unbearable!

Watching Fox News hearing on Justice Sotomayor, of course everything going bad for the Justice according the FAIR AN BALANCED network, what the Hell the Panel discussion on Fox is held by 5 thats 5 I tell you of CONSERVATIVE discussing the issues. Wheres the Moderates or Liberals to give a fair balanced report. Oh Hell its FOX so I listen but I don't look for a fair an balance report....JUSTICE SOTOMAYOR, Get used to it Fox News an the rest of you Republican Clowns.........

It's a shame that we don't let Supreme Court nominees give their opinions any more because that might get them borked.

Chief Justice Roberts dodged all the big questions, Justice Alito dodged all the big questions, and now Sotomayor is dodging all the big questions.

FOX NEWS, the Fair an Balanced Network appears to be having discussions with their Panel which consist of only CONSERVATIVES, during the Questioning by the Democrats an go back to the hearing only when the REPUBLICANS ARE QUESTIONING THE judge, AHH!!!! The Conservative Network an arm of the Republican Party wants no part of a reasonable discussion, the are carrying the water for the Republicans, BUT WHAT THE HELL WE ALL KNOW THAT, net loss for your side...........

-dodging all the big questions

It's become like a 4 year old going to their grandparents house and minding their manners instead of being themselves. It's a pain in the ass, but you get a cookie afterwards.

Yeah, Law Yale Review editors are never qualified.

Stupid asshole.

I'm glad we've finally gotten around to discussing the constitutionality of nunchucks.

Sen. Dynamite would like to know if Americans have a right to keep and bear a bo staff.

Orin Hatch, like most of these idealogues, is more interested in publicly exploring his own ideological interpretations of law instead of sorting out what are the nominee's qualifications and experience.

... coming to a neighborhood near you. ...

Not everything that happens in Britain makes it over here. If I'm going to fear a British import, it's bad dental hygiene and warm beer, not sex ed.

Hatch admits that she was bound by previous law on a decision, but can't give up on bashing the decision.

Just the sitcoms.

I don't know how lawyers keep all these precedents in their heads.

I've been really disappointed in Orrin. Although he's very conservative, I had respect for the way he usually conducts himself. Today he's grandstanding with the best of 'em.

Now he's just being a dick.

Andrea Mitchell has never heard on Nunchucks?

Just the sitcoms.

And the soccer and Harry Potter.

Hatch's smear against People for the American Way is a cheap shot. The fact that Ricci has filed two employment suits and threatened to file a third is worth bringing to light now that he's set to testify at these hearings. The guy is the kind of serial litigator Republicans normally scorn.

"I'm puzzled why Mr. Estrada keeps coming up." Right on, Sen. Feinstein.

RCade, it was bad enough that we had to look at the weird picture of Aretha, and sickening to see the Moose pop up all the time, and I support Sonia, but I hate to look at her picture.

"Chief Justice Roberts dodged all the big questions, Justice Alito dodged all the big questions, and now Sotomayor is dodging all the big questions."

This is mostly due to Senators asking the wrong questions. Supreme court cases involve lengthy briefs and pages upon pages of specific facts, and Senators know that. They don't honestly expect any nominee to answer a question like "how would you rule on an abortion case?" but they ask anyways. It's all a show, and they're hoping the nominee slips up and says something stupid under pressure.

... I support Sonia, but I hate to look at her picture.

Sonia Sotomayor is no Kathie Lee Gifford, but I think she's getting better looking the more we're exposed to her brains.

I love brains.

If you're interested in some of the constitutional mumbo jumbo they are working at this hearing, Talking Points Memo is running a live blog explaining some of the finer points.

Hey, they worked Estrada in again! WTG Sen. Sessions.

Jerk.

Tissue, Cadenhead?

I was just expressing an affection for brainy women. I am not at this time prepared to make Judge Sotomayor my lady.

Conservative propaganda debunked by Snopes.

Stephen Colbert had a take on Sotomayor.... that since she lives alone and is Puerto Rican, she probably does some of her own housework so the GOP should go after her for not paying herself enough and not reporting the taxes, lmao.

I think she's getting better looking the more we're exposed to her brains.

Your Point is?

Flying over your head.

I don't need glasses to determine whether or not Sotomayor is smart.

A protester screaming "baby killer!" and "Republicans defend the unborn!" was just removed.

There was laughter after he was expelled, but I couldn't tell why.

"People always say I have the ability to turn people on." -- Sen. Charles Grassley (R.-Iowa), whose time was interrupted by the protester.

Looking at her staring off into space reminds me of Anthony Perkins mom in "Psycho" - Sonia Scaresusmore.

Joseph Landry (sp) - removed and being processed.

Kyl just asked the longest question in the history of the US Senate.

The Supreme court is doomed...

We have to stop appointing idiots to the court based on their political stance and start looking for people who are motivated to protect the constitution.

We don't need a wise latina there... We need a person who has actually accomplished something

I would think someone who has been overturned more times than an uptown hooker would not be a good match for that position.

I am suprised that the Dems didn't carry her in on their shoulders

"We don't need a wise latina there... We need a person who has actually accomplished something"

You mean something like being a judge for seventeen years, being a prosecutor, stuff like that???

What did Roberts or Alito "accomplish" that she hasn't????

"I would think someone who has been overturned more times than an uptown hooker would not be a good match for that position."

Less than 1% of her decisions have been overturned.

So. That has been posted a zillion times. Do you UNDERSTAND what it means?

It would appear not.

So, if a nominee for Supreme Court Justice had a higher percentage of cases overturned on appeal than Sotomayor you would consider them less qualified to serve?

which one wold it be

obvious trick question... Why don't you just state who it is instead of wasting time

which one wold it be

#58 | Posted by bashthis

What difference does it make?

Roberts did, right. 100% of his cases that were reviewed by the SC were overturned. However, he had fewer cases than she did reviewed.

Roberts? Correct... But 60% of his cases were not overturned... You are playing games here..

If you can't be honest why waste your time here... Why don't you just sit in your closet and whack off and mumble we are the world to yourself

Alito - 100% overturned.

The simple truth, SCOTUS doesn't take cases unless they are likely to overturn them. If they agree, they don't hear them.

Sotomayor has a hell of a lot more history and number of adjudication's than either Roberts or Alito.

Schumer's just blathering now. A short quip about favorite baseball teams is OK. More than a minute on the subject is cheesy.

If you can't be honest why waste your time here...

#62 | Posted by bashthis

You're the one not being honest. If you're going to judge Sotomayor's fitness to serve by her record before the Supreme Court, then the same standard should be applied to any nominee, no matter who it is, right?

There is something wrong with these hearings.

Especially with the Democrats.

I thought the Democrats were against torture.

Danni / Brio - you asked what Altio and Roberts have done that Sotomayor hasn't.

1) Argued cases in fromt of the supreme cort. Roberts - 39 Alito - 12 Sotomayor - 0

2) Roberts - Top of his class at Harvard Alito - Same at Yale Soto - Quote from Wiki "In the fall of 1976, Sotomayor entered Yale Law School, again on a scholarship[19] and again to a place with very few Latinos.[33] She fit in well and was known as a hard worker, but was not considered among the top stars of her class"

3) Roberts got to his position due to his extensive prior experience including clerking at the court. Similar situation with Alito.

Soto - Got her judgeship because the political establishment wanted a Latino. "recommended for a spot by Democratic New York Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan.[5] Moynihan had an arrangement with his fellow New York Senator, Republican Al D'Amato, whereby he would get to choose roughly one out of every four New York district court seats even though a Republican was in the White House.[42][70][71] Moynihan also wanted to fulfill a public promise he had made to get a Hispanic judge appointed for New York.[17] When Moynihan's staff recommended her to him, they said "Have we got a judge for you!"[5] Moynihan identified with her socio-economic and academic background and became convinced she would become the first Hispanic Supreme Court justice"

She got there because of her race - not experience nor legal background.

Graham's an ass. Reading anonymous reviews to her?

Graham's an ass. Reading anonymous reviews to her?

Wow - yes, I'm watching right now. What a prick!

"People always say I have the ability to turn people on." -- Sen. Charles Grassley (R.-Iowa), whose time was interrupted by the protester.

Now that's funny.

So, if a nominee for Supreme Court Justice had a higher percentage of cases overturned on appeal than Sotomayor you would consider them less qualified to serve?

Did I say she's not qualified?

I said you were being Intellectually dishonest.

60% of her rulings that were reviewed by her peers were overturned that does not make 1%.

"She fit in well and was known as a hard worker, but was not considered among the top stars of her class"

While at Princeton she won the Pyne Prize, the top award for undergraduates.

She got there because of her race - not experience nor legal background.

It's ridiculous to raise these questions about a judge who has served 17 years on the U.S. Court of Appeals and was just recommended to the Supreme Court with the unanimous vote of the American Bar Association.

Chief Justice Roberts -- whose expertise you accept without question -- only served the D.C. Circuit for two years before reaching the Supreme Court and becoming its chief.

Sotomayor is considerably more experienced than Roberts.

She also graduated summa cum laude.

Lindsey Graham thinks he is some sort of wise elder now, rather than the backwards inbred redneck that he is.

Watching him talk down to this woman is disgusting.

Let's never forget the hearing is about giving politicians a second chance for putting their foot in their mouths, Sen. Huckleberry.

Sheesh. What a load.

She also graduated summa cum laude.

Thanks for adding that. The way people are treating Sotomayor reminds me of how minorities and women often have to be better than others just to get the same chances. Did any of the people now harshly scrutinizing Sotomayor apply the same scrutiny to Roberts or Alito?

60% of her rulings that were reviewed by her peers were overturned...
#71 | Posted by TXLIBERTARIAN

True, as far as it goes. But let's take that statement all the way, let it play out, and see where we end up, okay?

"60 % of her rulings that were reviewed by her peers -- that would be 3 out of a grand total of 5 cases -- were overturned. As a rule, 'the Supreme Court typically reverses about 75 percent of circuit court decisions that it chooses to rule upon' [ "The Myth of Sotomayor's 60 Percent Supreme Court Reversal Rate" at www.usnews.com]."

WTF does that have to do with Supreme Court?

Of course people are plotting against us. They have been since July 4, 1776

Graham is an ass. Any respect I gained for him yesterday just went down the toilet.

Is he drunk?

Is he drunk?

I've wondered that before. Especially last year when John McCain was carrying him around like Michael Jackson used to carry Emmanuel Lewis.

Plus she was Editor of The Yale Law Review. That's one of the highest honors you could achieve while in law school.

Oh my God! She's Puerto Rican! And she's responsible for everything a PR group ever wrote!

Amazing what you can learn at one of these hearings.

FF!

This is insane. Graham's coming across as a loon.

Oh god, taxpayer funded abortions for poor women.......can we get a relevant question here?

Yes, dumbass, abortion is a health issue.

Oh my God! She's Puerto Rican!

Not only that, but she's so fucking ugly she makes Condi look like an Uber-Model.
Honestly, thank god she's smart. I'm sure she has a pleasant personality though.

Can someone release a giant parrot so we can get this cracker outta here?

I just wish they were in a bar somewhere so she could slap the shit out of him.

#87- I would go quite that far. Maybe she makes other women look better, but Condi is long past that.

Fuck, did you hear that question he just asked about abortion?

Wonder if Graham understood the difference between a lawyer and judge? Prolly not.

Sounds like Lindsay Graham is on his period.

Graham is a patronizing, condescending schmuck.
