The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation said Friday that some scenes in Bruno, the new film starring Sacha Baron Cohen, "hit the gay community pretty hard and reinforce some damaging, hurtful stereotypes."

Just imagine how they feel about Skip Wellington

Lighten up GLAAD...It's just a movie.

Signed DR's Resident Legally Gay Wedded Man.

GLAAD? Why so SAAD?

They think the movie is BAAD.

I would think they would find it RAAD?

you people are making me MAAD.

I can't stand Sacha Baron Cohen he has done a very few funny things and the rest is crap. I have no intention of seeing the movie but from the comercials I have seen I can see why GLADD might be a bit upset.

what about my feelings? doesn't anyone care about how I feel?

Uh, no.

From the hundred plus commercials I've seen for Bruno, it doesn't even look remotely funny.

At all.

"damaging, hurtful, stereotypes" of who? of self-obsessed, hyper-materialistic, flamboyantly-eccentric people? with the type of CHARACTER cohen is playing, does it even matter that he's gay? (haven't seen movie yet)

Well, I'm about to rock Johnson and a few others here back on their heels, because I think GLAAD is WRONNG on this one.

They're expecting a commercial movie studio to take care of the public image of the gay community, which is not reasonable. The gay community does have a faction that values fabulousness over assimilation into the mainstream - and that faction is just bygod going to have to take responsibility for the P.R. fallout that comes with such a stance, without whining to GLAAD or anyone else.

Most movies comment on some segment of society, or some part of the human condition. If we get to such a politically correct place that we cannot take a look at people different from ourselves without inviting a firestorm of controversy, such a situation would actually make our differences greater, not lesser.

Gay people represented by GLAAD need to lighten up, the same way women had to lighten up about Lucy Ricardo and a host of other sitcom ditzes. The same way rednecks had to lighten up about Talladega Nights. The same way movie stars had to lighten up about Carol Burnett's movie parodies. Poking fun at the idiosyncrasies and foibles of people is where much of comedy lies.

And as gay icon Bette Midler is said to have said: "If you can't take a joke, then fuck you."

Borat got old after a while but some parts were so funny I almost cried.

agreed, and shamefully the most politically incorrect and socially wrong stuff cracked me up the most.

What's the "G" in GLAAD stand for?

What?!?!

"Gay?"

GLAAD consistently seems anything but...

as Mark Twain once said

there is no humor in heaven because all humor comes at someone's expense

"Gay people represented by GLAAD need to lighten up"

The gay world has an image problem.

While a lot of gay men lack strong male identities and are not terribly masculine, the gay community doesn't like being portrayed as limp-wristed and nelly.

This Bruno character is silly and, frankly, embarrassing.

But, let me tell you. Watching some gay men do "butch" is worse. Talk about embarrassing!

Gays prefers to be seen as just regular guys.

(shhhhhhh....we'll keep it our little secret there's more bottoms than tops in the gay world)

I mean...it's really disappointing when you pick up a good looking guy just to find out you're both wanting the same thing.

Well...not that it ever happened to me....

You're legally gay?

I haven't seen it yet, but I do like the commercial. It looks pretty funny. Especially the part where he's being trained by the Army Drill Instructors and they scream at him to salute........he gives a Nazi salute and it doesn't go over too well.

I seem to recall several months ago reading in the news about a Sacha Baron Cohen stunt in Arkansas.

He lured people to watch a caged wrestling match and offered $1 beer.

The men ripped off each others clothes and the fight got aggressive, until at one point with a room full of drinking men (in Arkansas...I want to repeat) saw these men start kissing.

I read the crowd went nuts.

According to the news, this was being filmed for a movie he was making.

I guess this is in the movie?

Let me get this straight. A baby in a hot tub with several men having sex. And GLAAD is somehow out of line. Excuse me but it sounds to me like GLAAD (an organization I admittedly approve of highly) is exactly right. The gay community, in my experience, certainly would never condone such behavior, far from it, they would make sure that a situation like that was dealt with appropriately.

The "D" in GLADD is for defamation, defined as:
"The uttering of slanderous words with a view to injure anothers reputation"

Who is Bruno injuring?
Effeminate homosexual men?
Butch homosexual men?

That would be GLAAD's "base."

Or is the movie more injurious and defaming of those who make fun of effeminate homsexuals?

Or is that joke on ANY of us who get their buttons pushed?

" And GLAAD is somehow out of line."

Yes, for expecting Hollywood to take care of the gay community's reputation, when the movie industry is in the business of making money out of cheap laughs, sex and violence. Movie studios are nobody's protector. If you would pay good money to see peoples' grandmas getting offed in snuff films, Hollywood would provide them - or at least, offer the finest simulations of them their SFX experts could devise.

At the very least, GLAAD should be haapy their community is being treated just as shabbily as everyone else. Hey, in Tinseltown, at least gays are equal in that respect.

Legally GAY wedded is what I said. Is that so hard to figure out, moron?

RE: The Topic -

Think of Richard Pryor mocking his own race in a number of movies.

Laughed then, laughed at Bruno this afternoon. Not offended. Still gay.

And happy that GLAAD is there for the real important moments, but this is SATIRE.

(cue: Fart Noise in 3-2-1)...

Bruno's so gay that he pisses off the queers!!!

Why are people still getting upset about Sasha's characters?

They just want a refund for their movie ticket.

Sasha Baron Cohen is every bit as funny as Jerry Seinfeld.
Sadly, Seinfeld wasn't funny at all.

I wish he'd take his non-funny schtick and get gone.

(whiny voice)"What's the deal with Sluggo?"
Jerry Seinfeld

Don't get all prissy, I mean pissy, with me just because you have poor grammar and sentence structure, dumper. Next time, try: "DR's resident gay, legally married man." And in the meantime, lighten up.

Is it funny that GLAAD would be MAD over a Movie by this Low-Life ZIONIST PIECE-OF-SHIT COCKSUCKER???

I saw the opening showing of the movie because I needed a good laugh. Bruno provided a lot of shocking laughs. The best thing was watching people walk out of the theater during the movie, and afterwards noticing people kept from making eye contact each other.

It was only 88min after editing cuts so it will be interesting in the future to rent the unedited version.

As far as GLADD statement goes...who cares? It is nothing more than a PR marketing ad for both the organization and the studios. Personally I am shocked I haven't seen any fights reported the showing of the movie. That will be next and what the PR directors are waiting in hope for.

Mary,

"Movie studios are nobody's protector."

Well...not exactly.

Seen any good movies lately about greedy Jews who exploit the system?

Sasha Baran Cohen is a zionist? How do you know? Just 'cause he's Jewish? Wow. So all black people are Black Panthers? All Muslims are terrorists who want to wipe Israel off the planet? (Of course, if you have a link showing Cohen's zionism, I'm happy to see it. And if I see what you see in it, I'll be happy to apologize.)

Oh, btw, a question to all who criticize Zionists: Do you also believe and take action against our foreign aid to/protection of the state of Israel?

How is this satire any more or less offensive than Bill Mayer and religion?

Or the redneck satires, or the black satires??

I understand their ire--just like Christians, or the rednecks (did they rise up?) or the blacks.

If all the medium of films and TV were of this nature--they could really have something to gripe about.

There are four gay stories going on in Soaps right now.

All My Children--Erica's daughter, Bianca, has been a lesbian forever. I think they have a baby now?

Y&R--Evil Adam--who is really hetero is using gay sex to divert the attorney from suspecting he is lying about everything. Wait until Heather--Adam's girlfriend and DA--finds out!

ATWT--Luke and Noah have been gay for a while. No bed scenes thank goodness.

GL--they decided to take two hetero woman characters--who were never lesbian and try to make them lesbian with eachother. Natalia couldn't take the pressue since she just found out she is pregnant with Frank's baby and has skipped town on the day her and Olivia were going to tell the town they were a couple. (Natalia is pregnant in real life and as big as a house and so she is on maternity leave).

No such thing. Those are documentaries.

maybe some day someone will make me understand the draw this moronic actor has...I hate to sound so old and stuffy but isnt there a better way to spend your life besides watching that trash.

shit...wife swap might be more instructive

Afk--Have you seen Da Ali G Show? That was some funny shit. Not the Bruno and Borat bits--that's all stereotype and slapstick (well, mostly), but the Ali G segments for which the show is named. (Then again, you believe Conan is unfunny, so I think we're in a taste war... : ) )

no I am pretty sure I havent used that portion of my time left here to watch that show....

yeah I know its a matter of taste...as in HAVING SOME besides in the mouth..LOL...but I still just dont get it..

give me the stooges anytime.......ha ha

You should watch the Ali G shit, Bushlover. Youtube the interview with Newt.

I dont have time today but I will add it to my list of things to do online tomorrow...

He punked a whole bunch of people in high places, pretending to be a journalist/interviewer from the UK. The one person who saw thru his schtick in seconds was, of all people, Donald Trump.

And Afk--you gave it away with stooges. : ) There's some stuff I find entirely unfunny. But my colleague across the hall loves that stuff, so... No accounting for taste. : ) (Probably the only thing you have in common with said colleague. He's even less generous toward President Bush than I am.)

I'm never again going to see a production of Richard III, as it reinforces damaging, hurtful stereotypes of evil tyrants with hunchbacks.

i've been disgusted with that 'actor' since he did 'da ali g'. that crap show about a clue-less white guy trying to act like a gang-banger/rapper.

"some hit the gay community pretty hard and reinforce some damaging, hurtful stereotypes."

How is that any different than what shows like Queer Eye or Perez Hilton's entire career do?

"some hit the gay community pretty hard and reinforce some damaging, hurtful stereotypes."

These folks should spend a day in my neck o'...

They'd see dozens of bruno's.
