Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Thursday, July 09, 2009

As many as 350 dogs were seized and 30 people arrested in five states during the largest simultaneous raid of dogfighting operations in the U.S. Arrests in Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Texas and Oklahoma followed a more than year-long investigation prompted by information gathered by the Humane Society of Missouri. "This heinous, heinous bloodsport is not going to be tolerated," said society president Kathy Warnick.

Fuckers.

I grew up in Mississippi. One of my friend's alky father went to dogfights, according to my friend. His father was a total scumbag. No job, beat his wife and kids, etc. A typical white trash asshole.

The fights held on "the other side of the tracks" behind some old decrepit house where lowlifes went to drink.

My friend escaped poverty and became a police detective.

were held

Fucking scumbags, I hope they all rot in jail.

Dog fighting belongs in the past.

Throw them in a pit of wild hungry dogs.
It's much better than the taxpayers having to feed and house these inhumane criminals.

I still think these dogfighting people are better human beings than Don King.

Seriously, its a disgusting crime but its also taken out of proportion. The NFL is full of wife-beaters who get slapped on the wrist but they're still thinking of banning Michael Vick from making a living after he's served his time. Why? Because the public cares more about the players' dogs than their wives. Americans are crazy about this crap.

My favorite people in the whole wide world are dogs.

Quite frankly, real people suck by comparison.

Wow, dog fighting, could anything be more horribly immoral and cruel? How selfish of those men, breeding those dogs, mistreating them, forcing them to live out their lives in cages and filthy conditions, just for their own personal gain.

Now if you'll excuse me it's time to eat this bacon cheeseburger.

I hate so-called "sports" like dog fighting. Hate bullfighting too.

The President, on the other hand, can kill any human being he feels like and nothing will be done about it.

But even he can't kill any dogs or cats.

The Humane Society works hard promoting its image of high and mighty ethics and morality, but its really just another business.

I hate hypocrites who decry animal cruelty, yet consume animal products created in conditions of cruelty.

Cognitive dissonance FTW.

please, snoofy. get over yourself. there's a big difference between raising animals to provide food and/or clothing and raising them for blood sport, but I suspect that you, under all your smug self-righteousness, know this.

You make a valid point, Snoofy. But you must admit that somewhere in the space between man and beast there is a special place just for dogs. Our attachment to them, or more importantly their attachment to us, lends them perks otherwise not afforded to cows or chickens. Their loyalty to us makes cruelty to them unthinkable to dog owners.

A pig would never knowingly lay down its life for its master, a dog would never consider any alternative.

Not from the animals point of view there isn't.

but I suspect that you, under all your smug self-righteousness, know this.
Likewise, I suspect you know the end game is the same for the animals you consume for food and clothing, regardless of the moralistic hoops you have them jump through to placate your conscience.

How would you choose to live out your days, Hagbard? Dog pit or CAFO?

You nailed me on the "smug" part, I'll give you that. :)

But seriously, you're suggesting it's not morally opprobrious to raise animals in conditions of cruelty -- provided we kill and eat them?

You make a valid point, Snoofy. But you must admit that somewhere in the space between man and beast there is a special place just for dogs.

No doubt. Didn't we have a dog thread a year ago and somebody posted a YouTube video of scenes from various dog movies? Well, I saved that link. And, in a stunning moment of serendipity that might have Murphy calling us all thieves for watching, the video hasn't (yet) been removed for "copyright violations."

www.youtube.com

What's the leap from dog fighting to horse meat?

Whoops, I spoke too soon.

"NOTICE

Fuckers.

I don't personally approve of dogfighting but if the animal is legally the property of the person putting it in the fight I say let it be. I do have a problem with their training methods though.

I can't believe you actually wrote that. Are you actually stating you believe since people have dogs "legally", they should be allowed to do with them as they please? You see nothing wrong with taking a living being and forcing it to fight for its life, for no other reason than the enjoyment of drunken jackasses? I am sure that 100 years ago you would of been saying the same thing about black people.

You are sick.

These crimes aren't being taken out of proportion. Psychologically, it has been determined people that partake in acts of animal cruelty usually have deeper mental/emotional issues.

The dogs aren't given the choice to fight, they are forced to. If the dogs refuse to fight, they are shot in the head, disposed of and replaced.

I realize you don't understand, humans are animals, like all other living beings on this planet. Just because we claim we are the pinnacle of evolution doesn't separate us from the rest.

PS- were you inferring that pro athletes should be able to whatever the hell they please? should we add a clause to their contracts stating that wife beating and animal cruelty is acceptable since they are such amazing jocks?
You should take your picture of Michael Vicks and beat one out while crying about how unfair life has been to him.

Not from the animals point of view there isn't.

Ok there Dr. Dolittle. So you talk to animals and get there point of view huh? There is Medicine for that BTW. Its a world of difference between a Long Horn Cattle Ranch and say, Bad Newz Kennelz. You MUST see that? I'm not talking about the infamous video with the Steer and the Fork Lift, or anyother Overtly Abusive Mass/Corprate Farming just your run of the mill 100-150 head ranches that are still family run. Not many but they do exist.

And as to CaliChris and your dislike of the BUllfighting; Hey, at least in a bull fight there is a good chance the Matador will be gored and hell maybe killed. Dog Fighting it is ONLY the Dog that will be hurt or killed. I no its not much of a difference, nor does it make it right, but at least they will eat the bull afterword. Not saying it makes it right, but hey its Spanish/Mexican CULTURE thing so we cant be crtitical of it without being racist/xenophopic/imperialists that are hell bent on forcing our laws and morality on other people.(who CHOOSE to come here BTW).

We are so far removed form our food anymore....

But you must admit that somewhere in the space between man and beast there is a special place just for dogs. Our attachment to them, or more importantly their attachment to us, lends them perks otherwise not afforded to cows or chickens.

What about Korea where dogs are bred and raised as livestock (like we do with cows) and eventually get thrown on a grill?

Serious question.

The dogs aren't given the choice to fight, they are forced to. If the dogs refuse to fight, they are shot in the head, disposed of and replaced.

This raises another interesting question. I used to know several greyhound breeders in Arkansas.

There's big money if you can breed a fast dog. But one breeder told me that maybe one puppy out of 30 will be a competitive runner, and one out of a thousand will be the golden dog.

The rest are shot. Every breeding ranch also has an incinerator.

but at least they will eat the bull afterword. Not saying it makes it right, but hey its Spanish/Mexican CULTURE thing

My brother in law (in the Philippines) raises fighting cocks. It's very much a part of the culture; they even show it on the local version of ESPN.

And the losing chicken is eaten, often with great reverence for a fallen champion.

Is THAT what that term means? I always thought "cockfighting" was two men in an up-close-and-personal swordfight...

Memo to self: do not invite pantywaist clownshack to the No Holds Barred Bar Brawl Cage Match tonite between Neanderthal Mike O'Hara and Mad Dawg Kowalski at Big Ed's Tavern, the Rattlesnake/Crawdad Potluck Dinner at The Church of Commonsense tomorrow or the Korean Community Mystery Meat Barbeque Sunday he has a weak tummy.
