July 8 (Bloomberg) -- Six Democrats on the U.S. House Intelligence Committee said the Central Intelligence Agency misled Congress since 2001 about "significant actions."

In a letter to CIA Director Leon Panetta, the six members said he had "recently" testified that "top CIA officials have concealed significant actions from all members of Congress" and "misled members" from 2001 until this week.

From a similar article:

Exactly what actions Panetta disclosed to the House Intelligence Committee on June 24 is unclear, but committee chairman Silvestre Reyes, D-Texas, said that the CIA outright lied in one case.

"These notifications have led me to conclude that this committee has been misled, has not been provided full and complete notifications, and (in at least one case) was affirmatively lied to," Reyes wrote in a letter Tuesday to Michigan Rep. Peter Hoekstra, the committee's senior Republican. A copy of the letter was obtained by The Associated Press.

Well this changes my opinion of Nancy Pelosi. NOT.

Well, you don't have to like her politics, but perhaps she wasn't lying about the CIA briefings.

You could practically smell this one coming when Panetta's first waded in with the most qualified of qualified denials. (In other words, nothing that would stick to him.)

Rogue,

I am all for a deeper digging into this.

If intel was truly and intentionally manipulated, by an elected body, then let the chips fall where they may.

Having said that, I am reminded of 2 things:

1. ALL of the proclamations during the Clinton administration that were identical to those of the Bush administration regarding Iraq's WMD capabilities.

2. The fact that foreign intel services mirrored our assertations regarding Iraq's capabilities.

I will go even further...If we look to history we can see a corporate influece regarding actions taken in Latin America. While not the only factor, the interests of United Fruit were being protected with our meddling in S. America.

I see no such correlation in Iraq; at least not yet.

Lastly, the CIA has an abysmal track-record regarding the provision of accurate intel - absolutely ABYSMAL.

From the way it appears in this and other articles about the matter, this is certainly not a partisan issue, but rather one of accountability by a governmental entity like the CIA. It appears that the CIA is out to protect the CIA, regardless of which party is in power at any given time.

There are 3 threads up on this topic now.

Might want to combine them.

Now up to 4 threads.
