Who gives a flying fart? They WERE, at one time-entertainers. Farrah had done a few celebrity "Roasts" on Comedy Central-so I suppose that means she was a Little more relevant than Michael-but certainly not by much.. They both got way more coverage than their status warranted.

How many millions of records did Farrah sell?

You will notice Steve McNair had the good sense to be murdered on a slow news day.

She sold millions of posters, proving millions of teens like to jack off. MJ sold millions of records, proving millions of people have no taste.

What has he released in the last 5 years?
NOTHING. He was working his ass off TRYING to get ready for a tour he was no longer in any shape to even try.
At least Farrah got some face time in front of a camera-on Comedy Central-at those idiotic "Celebrity Roasts"-but it was STILL work-and Michael hadn't worked in a long, long, time.
As talented as he was-he LET his work become irrelevant.

Michael is being idolized. I thought he was quite a dancer if not much of a singer. Now dead, he is an icon.
If he had survived, he would possibly be in the hoosegow now for drug use.
His life is a tragedy. There seems to be a parallel to Peter Pan, and from his drug use, he seems to have been in constant emotional and quite possibly physical pain.
He seems to have overcome the stigma of his attachment to young boys. There was a joke around that I heard in several ethnic contexts and also related to Michael, but essentially it involved a fellow who had achieved distinction and prominence, and then was caught performing fellatio on a young boy. He laments the image created. So despite all he had accomplished, it wouldn't be Michael the fabled singer and dancer, or Michael the fabled song writer, or Michael the extraordinary host at Neverland, but suck one little cock and forever, you're Michael the cocksucker.
The intensity of the outpouring of emotion for him seems to center in the black community with interviewees almost swooning when referring to him. The adulation seems in many ways similar to the emotion evoked by Barack Obama, another grievously flawed human being, who is elevated by the black community to at least the status of a demigod. You wonder what the dynamics are in the black community to trigger such emotional responses that actually seem detached from the reality of the individual being worshipped. I suspect that many of these people don't experience such deep and profound emotion from loss of their own loved ones. Weird phenomenon.

Pee Wee Herman is vitally more important to our culture than either MJ or FF.

meanwhile at our local cub foods grocery chain ~ almost every popular magazine there displays a MJ picture on its latest cover...

our daughter found a bumper sticker that had a pouty photo of farrah and it stated, "i died too."
pity their lives would be gauged so highly and others not recognized at all. no wonder the people in poorer nations are happier than we.

I agree, way too much coverage, but I'm biased since I don't give a rats ass about these two "celebrities".
By the way, saw the Jackson 5 when Michael was a cute little boy, not the horrible freak he became. And the 99% African American audience treated us honkies just fantastically.

Those in "poorer nations" have the distinct advantage of never having met you. Of course they're happier.
