Maryland resident Shawn M. Leake was enjoying an evening drive near Hyattsville on May 25, 2008 when he caught the unwelcome sight of a police car behind him, its running lights on.

When he pulled over he was accosted by Prince George's County Police Corporal Steven Jackson, who told him that he was following up on "inquiries" about Leake's auto insurance. Jackson later claimed that he stopped Leake because the windows of his Cadillac were tinted.

Much about the ensuing conversation, which was captured by Jackson's dashboard camera, remains unclear. A few minutes into the stop, after Jackson's backup arrived, the corporal ordered Leake from the car. Puzzled and wary, Leake hesitated, asking why this would be necessary.

Those evil police! Call a socialist when you next hear a noise in the night.

Diablo,

I have a couple of friends that are police and they will tell you this shit is not as uncommon as you would think. I have heard of people stoped for no reason and they were charged with resisting for asking the reason.

Resisting arrest is a bullshit charge, the times it's actualy needed there are more charges you can use.

JiD,

Despite what you want to belive about a police state there are good cops out there and they get just as pissed about this kind of stuff as you. It makes their job that much harder.

There are cops, and there are pigs. The trouble is, both can wear the uniform. Cops fulfill a vital role for our communities and deserve our respect. Pigs are twats that deserve a knife in the back.

This was a pig.

I defintely do appreciate the resolve of the good cops out there. But it's important to point out there is a very disturbing trend. Many of you may have seen the stories of border patrol checkpoints that are no longer anywhere near our borders used to harrass people as they see fit.

Also, there is a disturbing trend in the hiring practices of police agencies. One in three recent Atlanta Police Academy graduates have criminal records and FEMA's inspectors included criminals

Just a few posted....

Both were a problem here. The guy was being a smart ass unnecessarily and the cop went from 0-60 in 1.6 seconds. BOTH were a problem and BOTH should be dealt with.

More disturbing to me was the comments by the police major and the president of the fraternal order shit.

If a black man goes through intake at the Prince Georges County Jail without stiches on his face it's assumed he turned himself in.

I will give the cops the benefit of the doubt.

There are no doubt some bad cops--along with some bad prosecutors and some bad judges.

Getting rid of them is harder than it seems as well.

It would seem that better training or testing would get rid of some of the bad characters before they go out into the streets.

I will give the cops the benefit of the doubt

Based on what?

it seems that way because when a cop does good stuff it goes unreported....

I know, Tao, and you are right. I was only teasing a bit. I have known several cops and they are only humans with flaws. One I knew (Newark) went from being a great kid to having three kills in six years and hating humanity. The job does something to the unlucky ones.
Others are really great guys. I know one who turned in $4,000 some dollars he found. It turned out some elderly woman lost it and it was her only savings since she did not trust banks. That is one helluva good man.

i dated a cop for a number of years before remarrying - one of his favorite lines was, "trust me, i'm a gynecologist." so yes, they do tend to lie.

They need a warrant for that, Nanc.

Sorry, at least consent.

I don't understand how you can "resist arrest" when you aren't being arrested.
