The organizers of the latest round of Tea Party protests must be wondering whether the Fourth of July is the right time for political activism.

On a day usually reserved for barbecues, family outings and fireworks displays, the Tea Parties held at some 600 locations across the country appear to have drawn considerably fewer participants than the much-ballyhooed Tax Freedom Day protests on April 15.

Wait - didn't Nanc and Murphy and Ish Kabibble tell us it was gonna be even bigger and more awesome this time?

How very, very... uhm...

... disappointing.

Sorry you're disappointed Rogue. Were you planning to climb on the tea party bandwagon, or do you welcome higher taxes?

Well, I suppose you rich folks aren't affected by taxes that may significantly affect the life styles and freedom of the legions of marginal folks. You know, can we afford to continue ballet lessons for the daughter, or keep the boy in the baseball league. Oh right. No you don't have such concerns.

How about vacations? Would increased taxes affect your ability to take a vacation, or even go out for dinner, or attend a concert or movie or ball game. Or aren't you interested? You'd rather have the freedom of action of people curtailed, and have the government redirect their money with its greater wisdom concerning prudent use. Okay.

I guess they didn't pay Fox news enough to run non-stop commercials for them this time around.

Preliminary news reports from Saturday's Tea Parties suggest public participation fell far short of the April protests. In Morristown, NJ, attendance was down by a third compared to this spring's event.

in april there were about 600,000 attending at 600 locations . . . (Washington Times)

july gatherings totaled more than 1300 locations - attendance to be determined

Considering the July heat, that's a lot of tea bagging.

Hope y'all brought a lot of breath mints.

Apparently these tea parties are much more interesting when people have the opportunity too ditch a rather uninteresting Wednesday, April 15th, at work. But to give up a perfectly good 4th of July holiday? Suddenly tea parties aren't so interesting.
