Truth is Madoff will be released after a few weeks or months in a cozy jail! The reasons for his release will be either medical:"he's become para or quadraplegic or he's now in a coma...and so we had to release him..." or else it will be announced tha Madoff has "died" in prison from a heart attack or a stroke - after being thus sprung,the still very alive Madoff will spend the rest of his days in comfortable seclusion in Israel or Paraguay etc. - Watch For It!!!

Racketeering charges should lead to the confiscation of all property. Why does Madoff, or his wife have a penny to spent on lawyers or consultants? There is no reason to send him a country club like Haldeman and Erlichman enjoyed.

Madoff got this sentence because he ripped off some big wigs, and they are mad they got shammed--it was a reality check for them, and they don't like being portrayed as normal poeple. For example, Speilberg. On the other hand, I think all "white-collar" criminals should serve their time in the meat grinders. That way, they get no special treatment. Madoff isn't the only perpetrator, but he's the scapegoat.

With a sentence of more than ten years, Bernie will not be assigned to a "country club" prison, so he's plumb out of luck as he won't be housed with fellow con men.

re: Madoff...I believe there are a small, uber-connected group of people that suspected what skulduggery ol' Bernie was up to years before it came to light, but were too frightened of the FTC turning their Sauron-esque eye on their trades if they blew any whistles.
