Jackass-
In wishing that America had lost the Revolution or World Wars I or II, you show an incredible lack of historical perspective.
We could go all day about what might or might not happen if we had lost any of those three wars. I don't think any scenario could lead to the world we live in today.
If America had lost the Revolution, do you think that the French commoners would have still had the guts or the success story to fight the French Revolution? France COULD still be a monarchy today, in that case. Would a monarchy have championed the rights of commoners?
If America had lost to Germany in WWII, do you think Hitler would have cared at all for universal medicine?
If American hadn't maintained a military presence in Europe thruogh the cold war, do you think that those European countries could have created the socialist utopias you perceive them to be? Let's not forget that it was the US's massive military spending (which, full disclosure, I generally think is a little too massive, especially today) that forced the USSR to pay attention to the US and not to spreading communism through Western Europe.
I'm sure you probably think that a communist Western Europe wouldn't have been all that bad. Look at the current state of former USSR satellite nations. Do you think a Western Europe that looks like those countries would be a good thing today? Would you still think that Europe has it right and America has it wrong?
I'm all for recognizing America's faults and continuously trying to improve, but to pretend we'd be better off having lost the Revolution, WWII, or without a standing army (even if that army has been misused in Iraq)...well that's just ludicrous.
