What an unbelievably stupid move on WaPo's part. What the hell were they thinking? A new revenue source? Jeez. Glad to hear the newsroom didn't support it. When I worked for newspapers, the marketing side and the editorial side occasionally clashed - but nobody tried anything this boneheaded.

How was she able to promise the presence of administration officials, and those with enough clout to make it worth $25,000?

There needs to have been preplanning and consent from other participants.

And were these worthies inferred to be amenable to being receptive to proposals?

The government is corrupt. It just keeps breaking out into public vision now and then in weak spots.

It's amazing that even "a true believer" can rationalize this conduct as not reflecting badly on the administration. But give Axe his due. Remember the admonition, "A mind is a terrible thing to waste," Axe. Maybe you'd be well servied if you disengaged from the apologist mode for Obama who combines the worst characteristics of a self-serving buffoon of a Chicago machine politician, and an inculcated Marxist ruining our economy one act at a time.

Nothing Obama has done has increased productivity. His posture is that of the street agitator that he is, to take. But now he finds that there is a glitch. The cupboard is bare. One of the premises of Marxist wealth redistribution is that somehow there is magical production of wealth. Here with Obama impeding it, the standard of living of everyone is declining. But that's okay with Axe, since Obama has said that he's a "progressive," who wants to do "good," which in his lexicon means to transfer wealth to minorities and other indigents.

The Publisher should be irked. Here other Obama supporters are positioned to make trillions. GE with the climate change cap and trade legerdemain will do reallyb well. Wall Street with the trading in credirts will do really well.

All that is occurring is creation of another non-productive activity that burnens unexempted American businesses and has absolutely no effect on the environment as huge polluters, China, #1, India, Russia, et al, will not play that game.

So burdening our producers with additional costs, we'll transfer production to China, which creates far more pollution per item produced. Brilliant. Of course if we invoke Smoot-Hawley type protectionism, then the Americans will experience another whammy additionally reducing their standard of living.

the Obama administration in its wisdom is using blood-letting as a cure for a man losing blood in an automobile accident. But then Obama is a Marxist, and is securing the cooperation and participation of esurious business interests that are more interested in immediate profit than preserving this country. Socialism reduces productivity, and there is less for all. And in medicine, medical innovation, some 80% of which originates in the U.S., will be stifled. But we will all be leveled, which is the Obama model and priority. Will homeboy get away with it? We'll see. We're going to expereince 30% unemployment and government printing presses running Zimbabwe style as unemployment and less production compels continuing printing of money to prevent chaos and mass starvation. Obama is an abomination and a wannabe dictator.

But hey, it's all worth it. America elected a black and that "achievement" is worth the pain. We need a new value system. Academe has helped destroy America but elevation specious considerations to priorities.

I'm not surprised that rcade hasn't weighed in on this since he probably has empathy for Washington Post publisher Weymouth and wishes that the Drudge Retort has that kinda pull to rake in some easy bucks.
