Climate change is causing a breed of wild sheep in Scotland to shrink, according to research. Scientists say milder winters help smaller sheep to survive, resulting in this "paradoxical decrease in size."

this reminds me of the difference in size between the sokos and the nokos. they must be devolving...

Don't worry. We've got plenty of sheep to go around.

Of course it has to be global warming, of course. I love the leap to blame this on an imaginary "problem" without any explanation of a link between the two.

Environmental change, including climate change, can cause rapid phenotypic change via both ecological and evolutionary processes. Because ecological and evolutionary dynamics are intimately linked, a major challenge is to identify their relative roles. We exactly decompose change in mean body weight in a free-living population of Soay sheep into all processes that contribute to change. Ecological processes contribute most, with selectionthe underpinning of adaptive evolutionexplaining little of the observed phenotypic trend. Our results enable us to explain why selection is not realized even though weight is heritable and why environmental change has caused a decline in Soay sheep body size.

I'm sure the editorial staff at Science are all atwitter awaiting your brilliant rebuttal.

But the climate temperature has cooled since the 1999 high. There is no "global warming" going on. This is the phrenology of our time you believe!

Happy extinction, dimwit, you deserve it.

Kind of reminds me of the argument I had with someone here (may have been Iraqibukkake I think) about the poliovirus vaccine and how cases had halved the year before it was introduced. The other person took this to mean poliovirus was declining on its own already and that the vaccine didn't do anything. What they didn't do was look at the trend line for the overall significance.

It seems to be shrinking the already minuscule brains of the rtards, so this is quite possible.

When I first read the title of the thread I assumed it referred to some inexplicable phenomena involving rightwingers getting ever smaller.

"This is really gonna to affect my knitting budget damnit!"

If even a small percentage of the libtards who believed that we were causing climate change lived accordingly, there wouldn't be any. Maybe instead of cuttin' and a pastin', they should move somewhere they don't need to use the AC so much, and can ride their bicycles in lieu of driving.

Until then, the libtards are just as responsible for so-called climate change as I am. I just don't pretend to care.

What a shock. The rightwing drudge who worships at the altar of money doesn't give a damn about climate change.

Neither do you. I'm just not a sanctimonious prick about it.

can you still get their back legs in a pair of boots?

the sheepfuckers are very concerned. you know who you are.

Are you finaly grasping the last straw? Look at the real tempretaure records for the last 15 years and see it is cooling a little, not getting warmer.

It's not the global warming. Everyone knows you have to wash your sheep in cold water.

You should know better than to challenge Zat's religion. He's like a Baptist on Wednesday night -- and now you've subjected us -- for the billionth time -- to his five favorite cut-and-paste posts.

A Talibaptist on a Wednesday is the same as a Talibaptist on the other six nights.

So how was vacation with your ladyboy Dimho?

said the sheperder to the sheep, "Don't worry, its my first time too."

"Of course this will make the sheep smaller and easier to control. Maybe I could cut my S Pacific trips down to once a year."

"It is now more than 200 years since the great astronomer William Herschel observed a correlation between wheat prices and sunspots. When the latter were few in number, he noted, the climate turned colder and drier, crop yields fell and wheat prices rose. In the past two years, sunspot activity has dropped to its lowest point for a century.

One of our biggest worries is that our politicians are so fixated on the idea that CO2 is causing global warming that most of them haven't noticed that the problem may be that the world is not warming but cooling, with all the implications that has for whether we get enough to eat. "

"Scientists first began studying Soay sheep, on the island of Hirta in the St Kilda archipelago, in 1985. Since then, the sheep have decreased in size by 5% - their legs getting steadily shorter and their body weight decreasing."

5%??? Hell, that is the statistical margin for error. How do you even measure a sheep leg? I can't even measure my own leg exactly. I've tried 6 times and got 6 different results.

Another bullshit global warming hoax Zat.

Shutup Zulu...no one wants to hear FACTS!

This really makes a lot of sense. With global warming you have longer growing seasons and more grass for the sheep to eat.

The sheep, who were selectively bred to have short legs, will become smaller because the mild weather will allow more of the young to survive. A disproportionate number of lambs who die are miniature sheep.

Just look at the sheep at the equator, they are like mice.

Totally logical.

Or Florida deer, etc. etc.

Zat's got a predictor pool. Infallible you know.

This conclusion is supported by so much evidence, when all the scientists came to a consensus on the issue it sounded like a clap of thunder.

One only has to look to the gargantuan creatures of the far north to see how cool temperatures beget large vertebrate species.

Like the Labrador Elephant, or the Siberian Rhino.

Funny you chose GISS (Goddard Institute, NASA) for your figure, Zatoich. Thier computer model producing this scare nonsense has been a laughing stock since it was found to be tweaked. From Aug. 2007 Geotimes:

"On Aug. 4, however, the well-known climate change skeptic and former mining executive Steven McIntyre who previously challenged climatologist Michael Mann's 1998 finding that temperatures have increased rapidly since 1900 A.D., compared with the previous thousand years, forming a distinctive "hockey stick" temperature pattern observed a strange jump in the U.S. data occurring around January 2000. He sent an e-mail to NASA about his observation, and the agency responded with an e-mail acknowledging a flaw in the calculations and thanking him for his help, he says. By Aug. 7, he says, the agency had removed the incorrect U.S. data from the GISS Web site and replaced it with corrected numbers for all 1,200 stations.
The issue didn't end there, however. The corrections made almost no difference to global temperature trends, NASA reported, while U.S. mean annual temperatures from 2000 to 2006 were all reduced by about 0.15 degrees Celsius. Most significantly for climate change skeptics, however, the year 1934 now edges out 1998 as the hottest year in the United States.
McIntyre wrote about his findings in his blog ClimateAudit, dubbing the incorrect data a "Y2K" error and setting off a heated back-and-forth debate that gained traction in the blogosphere. In addition to noting the altered U.S. data, McIntyre also cast doubts on NASA's methods of collecting data and on its transparency, claiming that the old data should have been kept up on the Web site for comparison, and NASA should have alerted the public to the changes. Furthermore, he says, he had asked repeatedly to see the "source code" NASA uses to calculate its numbers, and had been repeatedly denied. "Certainly I think the way they handled it was inappropriate," he says. "I've got experience in public companies and if you have some bad news or adverse results you have to announce them."

Like CDC with AIDS, NASA is paid by the same people with a vested interest in the results.

Oh, I emphasize in the above post: The GISS figures come from a computer model. The actual recorded mean temperatures reflected no such trend. Nice try.

Shrinking sheep? LOL! Global warming is shrinking our sheep? ROFLMAO!

AP Los Angeles: Police have recovered a suicide note in which Michael Jackson reported an air leak in the rear entry of an inflatable sheep love doll caused his beloved "Dolly" to shrink. He despaired as this indicated the eventual, inevitable end of mankind. Without men, Jackson decided to end it all.
"If people do not wake up and realize shrinking sheep are but the first step toward extinction, they will refuse higher taxes, odious regulation of their most common activities and die in the streets wishing they had elected Al Gore," the note said.

Please tell me what is the perfect tempreture for our earth?

Please tell me what is the perfect tempreture for our earth?

75 degrees?

Thanks CC. I kinda like that temp. Colder than that and I start looking for a sweater. Too many years working outdoors in the winter has spoiled me.

I am wondering when they are gonna sprout wings or gills?

It's cold in NJ/NY on the morning after July 4th. So much for "global warming."
