Though Al Franken is poised to become the 60th Democratic vote in the Senate, the health woes of two other Democrats jeopardize the chances to accomplish a 60-vote filibuster proof majority. Sen. Ted Kennedy's fighting cancer and might not vote again, and Sen. Robert Byrd's 91 and recuperating at home after a month in a hospital.

Houston, I think we have a problem.

If Kennedy dies, his replacement will be determined by a Democrat governor. If Byrd dies, his replacement will be determined by a Democrat governor. I don't really see the problem here unless they aren't voting and don't resign or die.

I believe MA requires a special election.

I don't really see the problem here unless they aren't voting and don't resign or die.

I think that's about it.

"I don't really see the problem here unless they aren't voting and don't resign or die."

I think the author is saying that they won't be voting and won't resign. Selfishness comes easy to these two.

Republicans haven't had a filibuster-proof majority (or this large a House majority) since Hoover was president (no coincidence), and yet managed to get plenty of their agenda done. The fact that the Dems can't? Zero leadership, zero discipline.

Not an entirely unfair conclusion.

The Democrats could have 65 in the Senate and Harry Reid would still find a way to fuck it up. Thank God for the Senate Majority Leader.

That supermajority thing worked SO well for Jimmah, and it isn't going to help Black Jimmah. Democrats can be counted on time and time again to shoot themselves in the foot, and this time will be no exception.

of course part of the problem being democrats are not lock stepping morons who put party over country.

No, not unfair at all. Keeping Democrats in line has always been a bit like herding cats and it hasn't been since the days of LBJ, Mike Mansfield and Sam Rayburn that there was real leadership in the Democratic House and Senate.

Are you saying the Democrats haven't acoomplished anything? I thought they were responsible for the largest expansion of federal government since before Bush, and even when Republicans controlled everything from Bush on down, those insidious Democrats somehow still managed to force banks to make bad loans, causing our economy to crash.

"Keeping Democrats in line has always been a bit like herding cats..."

I think it comes from a live and let live attitude prevalent among democrats generally.

Ho...the last democrat president I ever voted for. I had a lot of admiration for ol' Sam too. This modern crop isn't fit to shine these guys' shoes.

"a live and let live attitude prevalent among democrats"

LOL. Was that a joke?

"...those insidious Democrats somehow still managed to force banks to make bad loans, causing our economy to crash."

Well, they started it with Carter and his passing the CRA in the 70's, but the republicans aren't innocent. It started with the feds basically forcing Fannie and Freddie to allow 5% shakey loans and every president after that increased the percentage until Bush added 6% to make it 56%. It shouldn't take a rocket scientist to see what was gonna happen years ago.

LOL. Was that a joke?

As opposed to the ethos of republicans?

No, that wasn't a joke.

Did they legalize pot last night and how much have you inhaled?

... and how much have you inhaled?

no comment.

The important thing here is the Dems won't have anyone to blame for their lack of accomplishments or failures.

"Democrats can be counted on time and time again to shoot themselves in the foot, and this time will be no exception."

When sweetheart Helen Thomas and CBS gets snippy with the administration, you KNOW they are in for trouble.

www.breitbart.tv

"Dems are stupid"

"No, Rebulicans are stupid"

All of you are correct.

All of you are correct.

And sully is correct

Wow. Gibbs is a stammering, idiot. And Jest is correct.

There's a thread about Gibbs...On the back page.

"of course part of the problem being democrats are not lock stepping morons who put party over country.

My thoughts exactly.

"Well, they started it with Carter and his passing the CRA in the 70's, but the republicans aren't innocent."

Post them talking points but most folks are getting it that they are bull shit.
But then, all Republicans have these days is bull shit.

There's a thread about Gibbs...On the back page.

Yeah, it figures that would be buried, what with Karl Maldens death and all.

oh wisgod..
you are good...thats funny...

and I didnt see anyone comment about the dems best friend...spector....I mean he isnt an automatic either...I guess it all depends on what his polling numbers tell him THIS WEEK......

HEY daNNI

this wasnt a fox reporter or some 'partisan' like that

this was helen thomas and another democrat media stooge...

WOW...THAT WORM just took a REaL HARD turn with this one

HELEN THOMAS TAKES GIBBS DOWN.........

"As opposed to the ethos of republicans?"

Your statement contained nothing about Republicans. Frankly I find both parties to be nanny-staters in different ways, far from being "live and let live."

of course part of the problem being democrats are not lock stepping morons who put party over country.

#10 | Posted by truthhurts at 2009-07-02 09:35 AM

Telling that you feel this is a problem.

of course part of the problem being democrats are not lock stepping morons who put party over country.

#10 | Posted by truthhurts at 2009-07-02 09:35 AM

bullshit!!!

you apparently have missed my recurring post about dems voting in the houston area

ON issue after issue...they have voted EXACTLY WHAT THE president wants and they have voted all EXACTLY THE SAME regardless of the issue...

the proof is in the congressional record if you care to go to that length.......

there is less wrong with no all the time than yes all the time...all the time yes's is getting us into a debt we may never recover from

"all the time yes's is getting us into a debt we may never recover from"

Oh, but all the "yes" when Bush was president doesn't count. You cheered and cheered for the Bush administration while they ran up 5 trillion in debt, your objections to spending now are transparently hypocritical and laughable.

The only problem with a 60-vote majority is you own every good and bad in the country.

You can change anything without restraint.

If there's something wrong you can fix it or be blamed for not doing something about it.

There's no out except the typical deflection.

You cheered and cheered for the Bush administration while they ran up 5 trillion in debt, your objections to spending now are transparently hypocritical and laughable.

e

I CALL BULLSHIT AGAIN

damn young lady..you punks are easy this today
I am on record as being against the spending of bush. I believe the comment was..spending like a demcrat...BUT that was before obama got here and SPILLED the treasury out on the 'floor'........

I reguarly wondered why he lost his veto pen and I will not let you get away with this false statement.

and AS alWaYS>...
obama response to rise in deficit...QUaDRUPLE IT
response to rise in debt..SAME THING

and libs here dont see a thing wrong with any of that..........and yet WE are the ones talked to like this..

BULLshiT...ITS BULLSHIT I SAY.........lol

Even some democrats begin to see that Obama is basically a front-man for Goldman-Sachs (www.huffingtonpost.com) and will not jump off the cliff for him. This is the only card at the moment that we the people have to play and stop this unscrupulous destruction of liberty and freedom.

As long as Our President attempts to play "Big Tent" and submits no legislation to improve the human condition, as long as Guantanamo remains open, phones are tapped, people die in a pointless middle east conflict and the nation lacks health care, all discussion of a working majority is pointless anyway. herm

I think the Dems should use the nuclear option.

Just get rid of the fillibuster.

"The only problem with a 60-vote majority is you own every good and bad in the country."

It makes accountability pretty simple for us voters.
I've got one DINO here in Florida, Bill Nelson. He fools lots of people in N. Florida, this will FINALLY force the rubes of the north recognize that he has been a Republican in Dem drag forever.
I am not just calling him now, I call my friends and relatives up in the north of Florida and get them to call him. They used to defend him to me but he they are beginning to see through his charade.

no response for AFK Danni?

you should read animal farm. i find that you resemble a few of the charachers.

er, characters.

"no response for AFK Danni?"

When someone posts as much crap as AFK I don't even read most of them, much less respond. I scrolled up and now he is pretending: "I am on record as being against the spending of bush."

Er...the only record that mettered AFK...you voted for him. TWICE!

You put him there to do the spending and you helped elect the Congress that rubber stamped the checks.
Puhleeeez don't be such a hypocrity now, it's down right embarrassing.

One can learn from history. Once leftists get the power and subdue the opposition/enemy that kept them at bay, they inevitably turn on their own; not unlike the pack of hyenas hunting the prey together - and then fighting over the spoils. This has always been a liberating experience.

Danni, i'm just curious. does this mean we can say that you support every single action of every official you ever voted for that won?

I believe my duty is to stop trusting the person I voted for once they wn and to become their sharpest critics.

Dems don't face the party wrath for voting independently as GOP does. They are independent, as it should be, so yes I agree, just because the dems have the magic 60 does not mean they will vote in lockstep.

That's a GOP thing.

"Danni, i'm just curious. does this mean we can say that you support every single action of every official you ever voted for that won?"

ER...if they run up five trillion in debt at least I won't be ragging on the next president for running up debt...as if I had been fiscally conservative the entire time. AFK voted for Bush twice, even after he conducted the war "off budget" and after gaining huge tax cuts so it is ridiculous now for him to be whining about fiscal responsibility.
He gave up the right to whine about that topic.

i'll take that as a "yes". why do you care about the debt or our deficits though Danni? PBHO bumped that up and has no intention of stopping. you voted for Obama, right? you should be happy about increased debts. in fact, you should praise Bush for giving Obama a head start as well as giving you a deflection for anything Obama does.

okay, it seems i keep harping on you today. it's not personal, just coincidental. i'm done :)

"PBHO bumped that up and has no intention of stopping."

Obviously you pay no attention to the news or what the President has said.
The President is not willing to let the "Starve the Beast" strategy of the Republicans control his agenda. WE can raise the taxes we need after the economy recovers but we may not get another chance for real health care reform for a long time.

i think what the guy is really saying is that 60 democrats don't really know their ass from a hot rock. they are pant pissing because their window until the next midterms is closing, and the american public are going to - for sure - take their 60 away first chance they get.

danni, actually i pay attention to what he says AND what he does. i don't give a damn what POTUS SAYS. he lied his way into office and i don't expect the lies to stop. keep slurping up the BS. someone needs to clean up after this guy and it ain't Helen Thomas anymore. hopefully more of the coolaide drinkers will wise up (including you).

Amen SOMOCO. we have revolutions every two years.

Just a quick stop in to get my dose of the combination of shrill hyperbole, hysteria, and delusional prognostication that seems to help some of you make it through the night.

Enjoy!
