For a group of paleontologists, a tour of the Creation Museum seemed like a great tongue-in-cheek way to cap off a serious conference. But while there were a few laughs and some clowning for the camera, most left more offended than amused by the frightening way in which evolution -- and their life's work -- was attacked. "It's sort of a monument to scientific illiteracy, isn't it?" said Jerry Lipps, professor of geology, paleontology and evolution at University of California, Berkeley.

..........religion = ignorance........

Organized religion is a tool used to control the weak minded.

Hey, next time some yahoo wants to spend $27 million on a turd like this, give me 1/2 and I will hit you in the head with a shovel.

It will be the same result.

wear a tiger skin toga and hit him with a wooden club-he'll feel he got his money worth.
Just remember to yell yabba-dabba-dooo just before you hit him.

For the bitter children at the top of the thread, from the article:

"Like Sunday school with statues... this is a special brand of religion here. I don't think even most mainstream Christians would believe in this interpretation of Earth's history."
...

Creationism is a theory not supported by most mainstream Christian churches.
...

"I think it's very bad science and even worse theology -- and the theology is far more offensive to me," said Park, a professor of paleontology who is an elder in the Presbyterian Church.
...

Daryl Domning, professor of anatomy at Howard University, held his chin and shook his head at several points during the tour.

"This bothers me as a scientist and as a Christian, because it's just as much a distortion and misrepresentation of Christianity as it is of science," he said.

"It's not your old-time religion by any means."

Wow. Who would have thought a bunch of lead-paint eating, witch-hunting, round planet-denying morons would have the ability to fill a building with ignorance and stupidity? Congrats, so-called Xtians!

Be careful what you ask for.

The whole elitist/globalist/capitalist system is based on weak minded people believing this creationism crap.

One has to wonder what will take it's place when religious assholism finally evaporates.

Is the fossil a fake or is the present day fish a fake?

I am still working on burning the image of Christ into a grilled cheese sammich with a soldering iron and selling it on ebay.

Is the fossil a fake or is the present day fish a fake?

Scientists were shocked when a coelacanth (pronounced SEE-la-kanth) was found off Africa's coast in 1938.

Your point?

We are all maggots eating our own feces.
We have no soul. we are no better than parasitic worms. Humanity is a cancer on mother earth.
If you believe this, and are serious in your convictions, you should waste no time, and kill yourself immediately. Otherwise STFU hypocrites.

Gosh Darn JID, can't decide who it is you're directing your venom at.

Hopefully it's at the ingoramuses who think Caveman Joe had a Brontosaurus Burger for lunch 12 million years ago.

Scientists Visit Creationism Museum

But can you name one of them?

Viruses in Shoes Jeff.

Is everyone in Denmark as stupid as you are?

Jeffy:

Could you please keep your coprophilia to yourself?

Too much information, and all that.

religion = superstition = ignorance = brain dead

Otherwise STFU hypocrites.

You are right.

As far as these creation believers goes, I don't necessarily see all of them as stupid. It helps keep me sane to just think they are intellectually lazy.

It's the easy thing to believe. You just do the thing, say the words, whatever, and Whammo, saved for eternity. It's a lot easier than actually trying to live right, every single day.

As is government. The difference is the government charges you while religion is still largely volunteers.

Using red hot shaped pieces of wire coathanger really helps get the detail.

" red hot ... pieces of wire coathanger "

My mother used to do that.

I drop by and shit on her grave from time to time.

In fairness, this shouldn't be called a Museum, but an Odditorium.
Yeah, borrowed that from Ripley's.

"It's sort of a monument to scientific illiteracy, isn't it?"

It wish it were that simple.

When I first studied Social Psychology with one of the greatest scientists I've ever known, helmreich.socialpsychology.org
, (didn't mention him on the 23% list on porpoise) it became apparent homo sapiens was not likely to make it as a group; A species maybe, but it won't be pretty.

Odditoria everywhere are offended.

NG, thank you for taking the time for looking at my post and my link - a first among all the times I have posted about the coelacanth when a thread like this comes up. Because this is the internet I guess I am forced to state the point. On second thought, no, that would make it too easy. Sigh, good grief, don't you see it?

Now if we could only get the same scientists to visit the Global Warming Museum.

Organized ideological junk science is a tool used to conrol the dolts of the world. 726 comes to mind.

interesting true story, a young girl looked at the display of dinoasurs playing with children asked "why is the dinosaur not eating the kids", the answer "there was no death before the fall, dinosaurs were vegetarian", "but", the little girl said, "Adam and Eve did not have children till after the fall", they rushed the little girl out of there away from the other kids.

Why do fake Christians lie? That is child abuse.

The Nazi's supposedly invented THE BIG LIE. Say it loud enough, long enough and even the biggest lie will eventually be accepted by the truly stupid and most of the mentally lazy.

Karl Rove revived this and make it SOP for the Party of FAIL. FOX News embraced it.

Looks like they were all late to the party. Organized religions discovered this thousands of years ago.

The bigger the lie, the more followers they have. REALLY!!! Examine the underlying story to each religion and look how long they last and how many they dupe. The more outrageous the lie, the bigger the collection plate take!!!

Norse mythology can't hold a candle to L.Ron Hubbards ZENU and the rocket powered 737's. What chance does Zeus and Athena have against an imaginary friend in the sky that shares each and every hate filled prejudice you have?

One of my co-workers actually visited this museum as a chaperon on her child's middle school field trip. The school, Wisconsin parochial school affiliated with the Wisconsin Synod Lutheran Church, sent the entire class to this place.

I've been interested in going to this thing as a source of amusement. However, I think I would probably end up angry and just start trashing the place.

As much as I support free speech, this place makes me seriously reconsider where to draw the line.

Sigh, good grief, don't you see it?

Yeah, but then again sharks and various lizards are unchanged since prehistoric times. Dinosaurs, not so much. Some things hit an evolutionary dead end. Look at the GOP for example. Or the evanjihadists.

It is interesting that the FIRST law in effect after the various communist revolutions was the required state teaching of evolution...

Gonna have to link that one.

It is funny because I keep asking these so called scientist questions about evolution but instead of answering my questions they just try and call me dumb because they don't have a legitimate answer.

Questions like why have so many creatures which lived hundreds of millions of years ago and are still alive today not evolved one bit. Like Horshoe crabs, Gars, etc.

Or why would a dinosaur devolope wings when they would actually slow them down on land. We know natural selection tells us that traits develope because they are an advantage.

Buzkjiller, asking of pebbles and bam bam are jesus' parents will do that to scientists Try asking your preacher wjo caim married. That's always good for a laugh.

bad cold meds-who Cain married.

who Cain married.

This is the question that caused me, when i was about 8 years old, to start saying, 'wait a minute, something's not right here'. Then that whole 'Jonah and the whale bit' and then the 'Noah and the whole species of the world on a little boat bit' and then the 'whole jesus bit', pretty much sealed it for me.

If the bible were true, that would mean Cain married his sister. No way around that one.

If the bible were true, that would mean Cain married his sister.

The Bible never named any further offspring of A & E.

Could have been some monkey business going down.

The bible didn't mention dinosaurs either or the United States or nuclear bombs or television or the internet or airplanes.

you think God would have known the internet was coming or that dinosaurs had ruled the earth for 100's of millions of years? Not if he was invented by man, he wouldn't.

the guys that wrote the Bible as a allegorical moral guide couldn't have guessed that someday people would be ignorant enough to think it was the literal truth.

Could you please provide some resources for this? You seem to know what the intent of "the guys who wrote the bible."??? Please demonstrate how you know what their intentions were.

Some guys pretend to know things, but when asked to provide info, they remain silent or name call. Let's see which one you are.

So the only smart people are non-religous people?

There is a real good case for adaption of species but not eveloution of species. Big difference.

99% of all species that ever lived, including plants, have gone extinct. DNA proves evolution.

"You seem to know what the intent of "the guys who wrote the bible."??? "

His assertion is no less logically sound than yours, and far more plausible.

Think Ockham's razor

Who pays for this celebration of ignorance?

It is interesting that the FIRST law in effect after the various communist revolutions was the required state teaching of evolution...

Kirk once again establishes himself as a shining beacon of stupidity in the bleak and desolate wasteland of the retort...

..the USSR forbade the teaching of Darwinian evolution. It developed a politically-acceptable (and scientifically invalid) alternative called Lysenkoism.

I also hear that communists put the color red on their flags quite often. That must make the color itself evil.

There is a real good case for adaption of species but not eveloution of species. Big difference.

Not to those who get their information about biology from a source other than a church or 2,000 year old book.

"eveloution (sic)"

Whatever that is.

He probably meant evIlution.

Snippy is living proof that certain men descended from apes in the sense that shit descends when an ape takes a dump from a tree.

Nanc have you been here?

Organized religion is a tool used to control the weak minded.

Isn't that what Marx said, when he wrote that "Religion is the opiate of the people?" But then, communism has assumed the role of religion for some with abandonment of critical inquiry. Some former communists and fellow travelers wrote "The God That Failed"
www.amazon.com

Here are excerpts from an Amazon review on Marxism as "God."

The famous collection "The God that Failed" contains reflections by three famous writers/activists who were members of the Communist Party in their nation (Koestler, Silone and Wright), and three who were, at least in the view of some, fellow travellers (Gide, Fischer, Spender). Each of them explains in short anecdotal style, mixed with philosophical and political musings, how they came to be an orthodox Communist, and how they came to leave this position.

All of these contributions make for excellent reading, and together they form an entirely and incontrovertibly damning picture of both the strategies and the mindset of the various Marxist-Leninist Parties and their leading adherents. In that way this book forms an excellent companion to the works of Orwell, Edmund Wilson and similar people who were also sympathetic to socialism of various kinds, but came to see the "official" Marxism of the USSR and its followers as a destructive and evil force.

It is well-known by now, but it wasn't so evident then. Marxism-Leninism necessarily rests on two main axioms: first, that the Party is inherently the most progressive force and representative of the struggle for socialism and the proletariat's role in this; and second, that the ends, as embodied in the Party, always justify the means. Together, these two rules form a deadly recipe for totalitarianism and tyranny over the mind, regardless of how well-intentioned its adherents may or may not have been. One need but look at the many revealing 'incidents' mentioned in this book, or even at Orwell's excellent memoirs of the Spanish Civil War (which Koestler has also written about), to see why this is true.

"The truth" shall remain unexamined and shall set you free. Look at the great and godly work done by Stalin and Mao and Hitler and Pol Pot. And look at Chavez and others who seek to repeat "The Miracle of the Fish and Loaves" as they destroy productive capacity but expect people to eat as before.

to much to read, I wonder if johnson will ever get the clue.

worthless putze

Could you please provide some resources for this? You seem to know what the intent of "the guys who wrote the bible."??? Please demonstrate how you know what their intentions were.

BS, with all of your blathering about Sodom and Gamorreh, you seem to think that there is some truth to the Bible.

How do you whether the writers of the Bible were describing something that actually happened, making a huge joke that 2/3 of the world still doesn't get, or one day they all just got hopped up on goofballs? How do you know that the interpretation of christianity popular among rightwing Americans has any validity?

Oh, yeah, faith... which in your case is a license to believe any sort of nonsense you want and remain, at least in your own mind, beyond criticism. In addition to "faith" I think you need to throw in a little gullibility and backwards-ass American jingoism to account for the evangelical mindset.

worthless putze

I was thinking "deranged spawn of a syphilitic whore".

Wow, your prose or poetry (free verse) certainly must inspire you. Do you have a muse? Who?

LOL!!!

It's funny 'cause it's moronic.

Zombie, what do you really know about Christianity, other than what you read in Dan Brown's "DaVinci Code"? I don't think you know much...certainly not enough to make an informed opinion.
