I tend to be less forgiving of the rich and powerful. With privilege comes responsibility, and all that.

This story is absolutely incredible. The women I know who put up with cheating husbands maintain their dignity (as they see it) by believing that their marriage is based on deep love, while their husbands' cheating was all about cheap thrills. From this lady's point of view, Sanford probably has a lot of respect for his Mrs. (mother of his children and all that) but I suspect his marriage has been "passionless" in the bedroom for many years, which is not an uncommon situation.

As I see it, he can force himself to stay with his wife and the two of them can grow old and semi-miserable together.

Or he can go for the brass ring and maybe live out the rest of his life passionately in love with the woman at his side.
