Bernard Madoff was sentenced Monday to 150 years for the multibillion-dollar fraud scheme he perpetrated. Before the sentencing, Madoff apologized to his family and to the victims of his multibillion-dollar fraud scheme Monday at a hearing for his sentencing for the investment swindle.

He'll probably get out in 75. Is there any point to that, or would justice - whatever that is - be better served were he to spend the balance of his days making restitution to victims? herm

Does it bother anyone besides me that sentencing someone to a term they can't possibly serve is inane?

Seems like an admission that the entire business of sentences is absurd.. sort of like explaining to a young kid how someone that got a life sentence is now out of jail. Wouldn't it be logical to just use common sense?

150 years, eh?

Looks like they're going to keep his zombie corpse locked up too.

Hey with good behavior he can get out when he's about 150.

His best times are ahead of him.

the love of money is the root of all sorts of evil. they won't have him put in gen pop - he wouldn't last the day. of course, he's headed to federal prison, isn't he? walk in the park!

I've got a better idea.
Seize everything he has-all of it-it''s ill gotten gain.
Then shove him into a hole UNDER the prison.

Of course-you then have to pour it full of concrete-so he'll never get out.

I must be in one of my nastier moods today.

Anyone want to bet that he "Ken Lays" in less than 90 days? There is way too much money out there unaccounted for that needs to remain unaccounted.

.......not long enough.......

.......but here is a case where waterboarding might be appropriate to extract the location of the missing money & the names of the co-conspirators......

.......Hannity says it's not torture.....

This guy is one of the most evil people I ever heard of. That condescending snicker on his face when he would go in and out of court tells it all. I hope they give free viagra to the other guys on his cell block and give him a taste of what he did to thousands of others.

Madoff Gets 150 Years

But he could turn it into 300 if you stick with him and have faith...

Nah.

Kenny Boy had the luxury of "getting his business in order" before he had to report.

It took the crashed economy to finally put the cuffs on this guy even though they were on to him in 2000.

There is a lot of explaining to do all around.

The MSM will ignore this and business will go on as usual.

If it was me I would offer him 5yrs provided he tell all he knows.

Everyone should fall,not just him.

Is 150 years in prison a fair sentence for Bernard Madoff?
Yes, it fits the crime 93% 52366
No, given his age, he deserved a lighter sentence 7% 4153

Finally, something 93% agree on.

"If it was me I would offer him 5yrs provided he tell all he knows."

They did offer him a deal. He refused.

Protecting his own.

If this asshole deserves 150 years for stealing a few billion, then what about the rest of the finance industry eh?

What about the us government that has killed millions of people over the last 30 years eh?

Selective justice is tyranny of the powerful. Nothing more...

I've often said we need to bring back the guillotine. People like Madoff are the reason.

What millions would you be referring to? Moron

A dull, rusty one. Use it in times square next monday.

There are several others in this scheme that should be going to prison with Bernie. Like this guy--

www.msnbc.msn.com

When's THAT going to happen?

Let us not forget that Goldman-Sachs, Merrill-Lynch, Morgan-Stanley, and Smith-Barney were all in bed with Madoff in the PRIMEX trading scheme, never lost a penny in his Ponzi scheme, and never notified authorities of his activities.

Madoff provides a useful cover story for what is wrong with Wall Street. Nothing has been fixed and nothing is even on the table that restores accountability, let alone trust.

Madoff could not have carried out his gigantic fantasy without the support of his accounting team, the SEC and other political connections.

but his wife knew nothing about it.......

Does it bother anyone besides me that sentencing someone to a term they can't possibly serve is inane?

I think it sends an important and serious message and is entirely appropriate.

The justice system is about balancing consequences with the action committed.

The sentence of a 150 years sends a powerful message to Madoff, and more importantly, to the many who have suffered because of his greedy actions, that in order for that balancing to take place, for justice to be actually served, the sentence of a 150 years would be necessary--though a human life span makes it impossible to carry out.

In short it recognizes the extent of his crimes by giving the sentence that fits it.

The court prescribes how justice or balance is to be maintained. The guilty party's ability to satisfy justice is a practical matter and he or she must comply to the best of their human ability.

Cheers

Woohoo!!! I hope he gets a cell with Bubba!

Sure seems like the Picower guy knew about the scheme and Madoff was paying him off.

Expect this guy and all others who collected money to be sued.

I don't know how you get donations out of the donoree--like MIT that Picower gave 50 million dollars to?

What a friggin mess.

Do you think the judge got the message across that this kind of crime will get you 150 years behind bars?

That guy in Chicago--???--his ponzi scheme only netted--what 10 million? Stratford?

Well, he won't have to do the whole 150. He'll probably get out after 120 with good time.

And, everyone gets in on the 'screwing' now since we indirectly pay for his time in prison...
I think people like this should be sentenced to a ghetto home, with ankle bracelet, given a 'shit' job and made to work at it 16 hours per day...
restricted to home the other 8 hours..nothing but canned food at home to eat...no TV, no telly, no outside communication.. a straw mat, basic uniform and bar of soap and toothbrush/toothpaste (so as not to gross coworkers out)...
Take expense out of his wages, give him a pack of gum for the week and the NY Times to wipe his ass..
no visitors, etc...
we are tooooooo good to lawbreakers like this...!!!
yes, I know...the ACLU would love this, too..!!!!

Madoff will soon be released on Humanitarian Grounds....or he'll suddenly and conveniently "Die" in prison!

Madoff who has paid off a lot of high ranking govt.officials, may do a few weeks or a few months and that is all the prison time he will ever do!!! Its already in the script where Madoff "becomes" very ill in prison and so the federal authorities decide (on humanitarian grounds..of course) to release him to spend his final days (years) at home - or else Madoff will suddenly become ill and "allegedly" die in prison - the Feds will then put him in some version of the "witness protection program" and Madoff will spend his last and very comfortable years in Paraguay or Israel etc! Watch for it!

I just watched a Frontline investigation on Madoff.

I also just learned that this guy was once the CHAIRMAN OF THE NASDAQ!!

You want to use me to carry out his punishment? OK, I'm game.

Do we start fingernails or toenails?

good point. The psycho-mullahs call for it when you insult their God. Westerners do it when you insult their God as well, except that their God is Money.

No, that was done by the french. Don't you know any history at all?

I am actually happy that he took mr. spielberg for 50 big. Really wish he'd have gotten mr. lucas as well.

That story will break very soon.
They may both see prison as well.

Let's see, Donte Stallworth gets 30 days for killing someone with his car.

This douchebag gets 150 years for stealing money.

He must not have good connections.

well it was a lot of money.

:-(

Some dude on CNN today, is a consultant that helps people who are sentenced to prison, get prepared for a life behind bars. This dude did some pretty hard time, he was a real gangster in his day, now he is a highly paid consultant of politicians and white collar criminals.

Anyway, he was contacted by Made-off's people and he turned them down. His reason was that Made-off hurt regular innocent people. Apparently, there is an ethic among prison criminals. And he said the inside is very racial and almost everybody inside hates Jews. The consultant guy said he was also a jew, so he knows the subject matter.

I'll give Made-off 2 years in medium security. Oh, the guy also said that medium security had rapists and bank robbers and murderers in the general population.

HAH! Speaking of zombies...
