I hate to see it framed that way. (1) I have a lot of male friends who get as furious (maybe even more furious) about sexism and discrimination as I do, and in the gender discrimination cases I've seen, there has always been at least one senior woman who was complicit. (2) I don't think "women's rights" should be a "women's issue" any more than I think minority rights are a minority issue -- they're issues for anyone who believes in a just society. (3) I honestly believe that denying choice/ forcing people into rigid gender roles hurts *both* men and women.

I was going to say something like: the only women who "pay attention" to him come by squad car and have billyclubs and walky-talkies attached to their belts, or wear white gowns and are carrying a tray of little paper cups filled with pills, but that works too...

My dentist is a lovely Iranian woman, fresh from dental school. Her dragging those c-cups across my head for an hour made all the dynamiting and drilling she was doing worth the trip.

I'm here to testify that it is indeed possible to have and root canal and think about all the raunchy ways to knock boots with your dentist at the same time. As you would imagine, it depends totally on the dentist.

Back on topic - not surprising at all that women have been at the forefront. Theocracy hurts everyone, but women get it the worst. (Funny how God - no matter whose it is - always says it's better that way.)

Their courage and conviction are highly admirable - no doubt it would be difficult, if not impossible, to match such dedication to democracy these days here in America.

Their courage and conviction are highly admirable - no doubt it would be difficult, if not impossible, to match such dedication to democracy these days here in America.

It's funny, isn't it? For as much as politicians harp on "freedom" here, most Americans haven't a clue about it. (the politicians have raped the word thoroughly). And here we see thousands of people taking to the streets, demanding something many here have lived their lives taking for granted.

You wouldn't see this in america until after our cherished freedoms had been taken. Up until that point, we would stay on our asses.
