"As in all great affairs, Mark Sanford fell in love simultaneously with a woman and himself with the dashing new version of himself he saw in her molten eyes," writes Maureen Dowd of Mark Sanford's new personna: Marco. As for the GOP, "The Republican Party will never revive itself until its sanctimonious pantheon Sanford, Gingrich, Limbaugh, Palin, Ensign, Vitter and hypocrites yet to be exposed stop being two-faced."

Probably should correct the headline so people don't think Chris Dodd is weighing in on this one.

I kinda got a chuckle out of it, Phoenix. Let it be. It's funny for a typo.

Lets talk about barney franks little boy friends.
He would make a good muslim cleric, they have the same taste in sex.

"The Republican Party will never revive itself until its sanctimonious pantheon Sanford, Gingrich, Limbaugh, Palin, Ensign, Vitter and hypocrites yet to be exposed stop being two-faced."

I guess if you have no standards like many of the dems then you can't be a hypocrite.

The GOP sets itself up for failure when it pretends to be the moral majority.

The media will report on GOP transgressions 5-fold more than Dem transgressions - some of it being bias and some of it being the heightened awareness that the GOP has made of 'morality'.

Jeff:

Your post is spot on.

Thanks, Lisa.

I hope things are VERY well in Lisa-ville.

On-topic - there's something about proclaiming to support a certain degree of "morality" and THEN be a hypocrite, that sets people off.

The GOP suffers from it.

Al Gore most certainly suffers from it given his excesses.

PS - Captain-and-coke or Chardonnay this evening? :-)

Maureen Dowdy should have stopped after she talked about Sanford falling in love with her and the dashing image of himself he saw in her molten lava eyes. That was beautiful but the rest was just typical meaningless partisan garbage that she is so famous for.

"Captain-and-coke or Chardonnay this evening?"

Drunkards. I'm enjoy some fine cannabis this evening.

I didn't know you dabbled in cannibus - I thought it was "fresh" box-wine and Don Julio margharitas for you!

Fresh wine is good.
Fresh cannabis is better.
Fresh wine and fresh cannabis best.

Morality wouldn't be a problem for the GOP if they didn't mostly tend to be hypocritical twats.

Pure wisdom!

You're right - hypocrisy is exclusive to the right! [ / sarcasm ]

Gotta love Oozie.

Headline has typo in it saying "Dodd" rather than "Dowd".

Phoenix catches it in first post.

Diablo assures Phoenix the typo is funny and should be left as is.

Then on the third post Oozie start railing against Chris Dodd proving his point.

Classic!

On Topic?

Yes, the holier than thou mentalilty on the right has backfired as their positions have consistently proven to be less than moral despite all wild-eyed rhetoric to the contrary.

Be Well.

I keep hearing the leftards on here calling conservatives hypocrites concerning fidelity. However, I think the "it was only a blowjob crowd" mistakenly interpreting the criticism of Bill Clintons perjury and witness tampering with self righteous indignation for someone who had an extramarital affair.

Had Bill Clinton simply cheated on Hillary and not lied under oath as well as tried to bribe witnesses against him in a lawsuit most conservatives could have cared less.

Don't ignore the fact that the whole investigation of Clinton was a fucking shame and waste of time and money and should never have happened in the first place. But enough with addressing your deflection...

You're with the "moral majority" GOP; face up to your party's increasingly-apparent hypocrisy on this issue.

What about when Clinton raped that girl and when he had Vince Foster and Ron Brown killed? Someone should look into those things.

What about when FWthom got a gerbil stuck in his anus? Someone should look into that.

Just because the Dems have no morals--

it's ok for them to cheat on their wives,
pay for prostitutes,
screw boys in their basement,
leave a woman to drown in a car crash,
have an affair with an intern--lie about it, perjure themselves and bribe witnesses about it, have an affair when their wife is dying of cancer--AND MAKE A SEX TAPE,
hire their gay lover and cheat on their wife at the same time,

Shouldn't someone stick up for morals!

Just because the Dems have no morals--

it's ok for them to...

Retarded post of the year! Of course, Murphy has 6 more months to come up with something even more idiotic, and no doubt, will.

...typical meaningless partisan garbage that she is so famous for. -- #8 | Posted by fwthom

Hard to accuse her of partisan attacks. She's famous for her Clinton-hating --

Her unalloyed contempt for the Clintons managed to infuriate even as lukewarm a Clintonite as Garry Wills, who wrote, more than a year before the Pulitzer, that "any journalist must be super strenuous to take the vileness award from Maureen Dowd." www.slate.com
-- and won her Pulitzer for a seemingly endless series of columns on Clinton-Lewinsky.

Shouldn't someone stick up for morals!

I nominate Jeff Gannon.

Who said that?

The imaginary liberals in Murphy's head.

The ones that were put there by the right wing media talking point factory.

They're always picking on her!

So mean they are!

Hard to accuse FuckWit Thom of ever being right about anything.

Impossible to make that accusation with a straight face.

Be Well.

Unfortunatley, the Repubs have used the "Moral Majority concept" to define themselves.
The Repub leaders who do the dance sometimes can't make it under the Limbo Stick.

The demoncrats don't have this problem because of the argument of moral relativity.

The Repub message should be they suck, we suck. We suck less because we want MORE THAN JUST CHANGE IN YOUR POCKET.

What about when FWthom got a gerbil stuck in his anus? Someone should look into that.

Fixated on anuses and anal sex Moder8. You've referred to it repeatedly with me, and now you are with thom.

I don't know if you recognize yourself as having homosexual "interests" Moder8, but if you don't have such proclivities your repeated referral to anal sex and anal perversions is difficult to fathom.

Is "gerbil stuck in his anus" some type of homosexual thing? Different cultures engage in different practices. The Chinese used to fuck geese and wring the goose's neck as they experienced orgasm so as to enhance the orgasm..

There also seem to be some unusual practices in homosexual culture. I've read that doctors extract unusual objects such as light bulbs from the anuses of homosexuals. You seem quite familiar with such practices Moder8. You are so "cosmopolitan." What do you think stimulates your interest?

I love Maureen Dowd

Had Bill Clinton simply cheated on Hillary and not lied under oath as well as tried to bribe witnesses against him in a lawsuit most conservatives could have cared less.

He did not lie under oath.
Even Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) voted against the article involving Clinton lying about his relationship with Monica Lewinsky.

Yes, if Repubs could just embrace immorality, flaunt it, praise it, lift it up as a virtue, then they might be able to beat Democrats for whom this kind of thing is second nature to them....almost like breathing!

if Repubs could just embrace immorality

Maybe they could embrace not being immoral.

I never tire of posting that anyone should be free to diddle anyone, and it's all between diddler, diddlee and mates. REAL immorality is pretending to one set of values and then practicing another. I do not want MY life run by hypocrites, because you cannot rely on hypocrites to practice what they preach. herm

"Yes, if Repubs could just embrace immorality, flaunt it, praise it, lift it up as a virtue"

They've pretty much done the first two already.

Not that it matters. The voters are just as full of crap with their pretenses about morality. I'd be willing to bet that all the people who post here about how others lack morals are total pieces of shit as human beings.

There's really only _one_ important question to ask about this whole affair: since Governor Sanford clearly will not be making any trips to Buenos Aires in the near future, is his Argentine girfriend available?

lots of talk about republicans being hypocrital on this issue

well as a gambler let me say it this way

I see your hypocrisy charge and RAISE you the blowjob charge.
there has NEVER been a republican with the level of hypocricy of clinton
what he did was MUCH worse and there are the lies of course and dems said it was "just sex' and it was his 'private life and didnt matter'
that hypocricy TRUMPS any from the right...

we win

How was Clinton a hypocrite? The fact that he had an affair with an intern shouldn't have surprised anyone. It what republicans just don't get. Rush getting himself addicted to pain killers would never have been a big deal...cept for the fact he comes across as this strait laced conservative who would look down on someone with drug problems and accuse them of being weak and a loser. That's what hypocrisy is! When did Clinton ever preach against getting blowjobs? And of course you're going to lie about something like that... who the hell is going to admit to getting head from a chubby young intern. If the guy is otherwise doing a good job... then I'll let that pass. As long as he doesn't travel half way around the world to do it on the taxpayers dime.

Nixon claiming the "Silent majority" backing him while Agnew cheated on his taxes and Nixon burglarized offices across the nation?
Reagan hammering Carter on the hostages then trading weapons for hostages and selling 300 marines and a bunch of missiles to the mad ayatollahs? Herbie fabricating evidence of a threat from Saddam to justify pimping out the US military to the saudialquedians? Dubya's dead or alive aka who gives a rat's ass about bin laden?

aflac, you seriously think your continuous, unabashed support of the GOP, especially coming from somebody who says he's not a supporter, after their innumerable FAILS (from Korea to Iraq through Vietnam and afghanistan)and repeatedly in the economic world, isn't hypocritical?

Or just delusional.

And btw, both Vitter and Sanford said Clinton should have resigned. Aren't THEY AND YOU being hypocritical now?

"I see your hypocrisy charge and RAISE you the blowjob charge...we win!"

Afkababble, you win, like a pair or treys wins over an ace-high flush. You ain't even close! herm

"Shouldn't someone stick up for morals!"

Murphy:

What you're forgetting is that every one of these transgressions- except for Chappaquidddick - was punished by impeachment, censure or loss of job, or even loss of career.

That's a much better track record than I detect over on your side of the fence.
