Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Signs that home prices may have bottomed have stirred hope on Wall Street that the economy is on the mend, yet tight credit and a new foreclosure wave cast doubt on any looming housing revival. Sales of previously owned U.S. homes rose for a second straight month in May, realty data on Tuesday showed, while the U.S. government and Federal Reserve have designed a number of programs to alleviate a battered housing market.

Go check the air pressure on your home's tires.

Bernanke has underwritten the entire financial system with $12.8 trillion, while the broader economy languishes in economic quicksand. The Fed's lavish gift amounts to a taxpayer-funded insurance policy for which no premium is paid.

Whalen testifies:
"In my view, CDS (credit default swaps) contracts and complex structured assets are deceptive by design and beg the question as to whether a certain level of complexity is so speculative and reckless as to violate US securities and anti-fraud laws. That is, if an OTC derivative contract lacks a clear cash basis and cannot be valued by both parties to the transaction with the same degree of facility and transparency as cash market instruments, then the OTC contact should be treated as fraudulent and banned as a matter of law and regulation. Most CDS contracts and complex structured financial instruments fall into this category of deliberately fraudulent instruments for which no cash basis exists."

No one understands these instruments; they are deliberately opaque and impossible to price. they should be banned, but the Fed and Treasury continue to look the other way because they are in the thrall of the banks. This phenomenon is known as "regulatory capture".

The Geithner-Summers "reform" proposals are a public relations scam designed to conceal the fact that the banks will continue to maintain their stranglehold on OTC derivatives trading while circumventing government oversight. Nothing will change. Bernanke and Geithner's primary objective is to preserve the ability of the banks to use complex instruments to enhance leverage and maximize profits.

our loan is pre-approved - we can go purchase any other house, but we've put money into the house and have been here for 2-plus years.

REFUSE TO PAY YOUR CREDIT CARD BILL???

I wonder what would happen if the American public simply "Refused" to pay their credit card bills for the next several months or longer? The shoe would really be on the other foot as far as the "CorpoRat America Banking System" goes wouldn't it!!!
Wouldn't this also put the American public in a brand new "Bargaining" positon with the CorpoRat Banksters?
The American public could just say "Hey we're not paying any more credit card bills until the exhorbitant, criminal interest rate is "lowered" to "2 per cent" which is about the exact same rate that these same ursurous banks offer the public on savings and chequing accounts! If the American public "flexed" its financial muscle in this simple but very powerful manner then just what could the CorpoRat Banksters do??? The banks have had all the rights and all the "Bailouts" up to this point - now its time for the American public to clearly and unmistakably demand their rights!!!

The trailer park is looking pretty good right about now huh?

i know this to be true as we're in the midst of purchasing our home (two years in the progress) from a very wealthy person who got in over their heads - he has literally hundreds of thousands in back taxes and payments owing and until the liens are lifted, our house is in limbo even though we took over the note on it.

How does something like that work, nanc? Can you recoup any of the money you've put in so far on your loan payments if you decide to purchase another home instead? Is there a good chance this guy will even be able to pay off hundreds of thousands in back taxes? Like what if he can never pay it off? You just move on and figure your mortgage payments paid so far each month is sort of like having paid rent?

Maybe you and your husband could negotiate a side deal of your own with the IRS as to this guy's back tax liens and get the amount cut way down? I've heard the IRS will make deals. Might be worth having a good tax lawyer look into having a deal made for you and your husband directly with the IRS. I'm not quite sure how all that works.

Sorry, didn't mean to have it all in bold print.

hate it when that happens

cc - we will move on if we have to - and have been looking at other property...just in case. the back taxes he owes on this property will have to be paid by either or both of us if we want to seal the deal - we've offered, but no word yet. we want to put more money into this house but are hesitant as we'll lost it if they don't go for it. personally, i'd rather we put it into one or more of our other properties and realize a profit in the end.

this house doesn't need much insofar as improvements as it's only a few years old - it's the five acres attached to it that needs constant grooming.

nanc it will be a shame if you have to move. I would think it would mean god has forsaken you.

wouldn't know - haven't lived in a trailer since my eldest was in kindergarten in the seventies. unless you count the fifth wheel we had when my husband was traveling in his work in the late nineties. i'd gladly live in a trailer under the right circumstances. what is your biggest problem with trailers? i notice your fear and wonder if you've sought counseling for it.

I have no fear of trailers unless you live in Tornado alley.

I hate how you always see everything as being so peachy keen. Nanc you need to experience the misfortune I have lived through and you will know exactly what I mean.

Nanc raising your kids with a rightwing xtian perspective is the worst thing you can do. I was raised in this manner and I have never let go of the rage and hatred I was raised with.

5 acres probably would require a lot of work but it sure would be worth it just to have all that land to claim as your own. Houses here in Los Angeles are considered "roomy" if they sit on 1/3 of an acre.

we have three other parcels - two undeveloped highway frontage and the forty acres with a cabin, outbuilding and where we store the majority of our vehicles - we keep about seven acres groomed there. it is alot of work, but well worth the endeavor. there is plenty of room for family and friends when they need to get out of dodge.

You could set aside a small portion of the land as a retreat and call it "CAMP DR"

Everyone on here could meet for an annual camping trip (well, it would probably only last for the first year as everyone would have killed each other off by the end of the first week lol).

Nutty, thank you so much for turning me on to Counterpunch, it is great!

REFUSE TO PAY YOUR CREDIT CARD BILL???

Anti, after reading your post, I laughed so hard that rum shot out of my nose.

A little basic info for you... if you don't pay, they bank COULD sue you, turn your debt to a collection agency, or even attempt to get the money from your paycheck (if you have a job that pays more than flippin burgers)... but if you could convince the majority, or even a large percentage of people, to stop paying? The banks would all fail, people couldn't get a loan, and the American taxpayer (which probably includes you) would have to pay for the bank loss through the FDIC... so your taxes would go up... and you would pay your credit card bill anyways, just to the gov't... with the added cost of all the lawyers and, of course, Obama's cut.

But I understood your message... it really read something like "BAAAAAAHHHHHHHH WAAAAAAHHHHHHH".

Seriously... you need to take an economics course.

when we lived at the cabin, yes - we utilized all of our ground with everything nature offered - such as rocks, fossils, some amber, old cedar posts, etc. and the chickens and turkens were allowed to go anywhere EXCEPT for my very front approximately 20x20 yard - the way i kept them out was to pump up a super soaker - they'd scatter!

at this house, we've built up a bird sanctuary and feed 20-30 varieties of wild birds every day - our newest additions have been bittern and orioles - we are in one of the largest migratory fly zones in the world so see nearly every bird imaginable in the americas.

by grooming, i mean mowing and weedeating - otherwise we have butterfly and bee friendly plants.

This past year I discovered that about 20 feet of the back of land I live on is covered in wild flowers. I never really noticed before.

I'm considering putting some beneficial flowers and plants in back there.

if you're wanting to attract bees, plant rosemary and other fragrant herbs - for butterflies - they love parsley and orange colored flowers. for birds, you can just about tie orange ribbons all over everything and you'll have birds from miles around seeking you out! my ford f250 is orange and we never lack for birds...

I don't think I am looking for birds. My back yard garden is only a few 8 x 4 raised beds. They'd pick it clean. I've got Rosemary going in planters right now. I think I might actually put the carrots out in large wash pans instead of the beds. That will leave me plenty of room for brussel sprouts and a few other cold weather veggies.

I recently heard that if you plant marigolds amongst your vegetables that they are less susceptible to birds and some bugs. I haven't gardened in years since I'm not home enough to tend it, so I don't know if this works or not. I do know that marigolds do not have a pleasant smell.

axiom - we have so many wildflowers to the direct west of us - daisies, shasta daisies, echinechea, queen anne's lace, browneyed susans and others i have no idea of the name - it is in a small draw so we leave it alone - that's where the bulk of the cottontails and roadrunners live - and these are no ordinary roadrunners - they'll take a small cat out! HUGE!

yes, goatman - marigolds are good bug deterrent - good to plant alongside your tomatoes - you'll still get bugs but not as many.

Marigolds are good for some insects, but not so much for birds. Mosquitoes and Humans find the odor of marigolds offensive. They're great to plan near tomatoes.

Rosemary is good for repelling skeeters too. As is citronella grass and catnip.

Anyway. I already have marigolds going. To get birds to leave things alone, you put metallic pie pans on string hanging from a post. The breeze causes the pie tin to move around and reflect light which scares the birds off.

My biggest worry around my beds is the family of bunnies that I've seen in the yard the past few weeks. I've got some chicken wire that I'm going to bury about a foot below ground with 2 feet above ground.

Rosemary is good for repelling skeeters too.

Rosemary if very common around San Antonio. Many people use it as a shrub as it is drought resistant and we get only 20" rain a year average. I have several bushes in my yard and use it a lot in my cooking. It's great in hard yeast rolls or baguettes.

#36 Eat the bunnies, too.

nancpop ran over a crop of bunnies here a couple of weeks ago while mowing in the draw - our mutt went and cleaned up the mess - hakuna matata.

dillweed is a great plant to have near your tomatoes - the tomato hornworms find them offensive.
