The attorneys for Fox, owned by media baron Rupert Murdock, successfully argued the First Amendment gives broadcasters the right to lie or deliberately distort news reports on the public airwaves.

While this article specifically mentions Fox, I would like to express an opinion that I am certain Fox is not the only media outlet that practices deception.

Well there you have in official court documents for ALL to see: Fox News Lies

Fox pressured her to broadcast a false story to protect the broadcaster from having to defend the truth in court, as well as suffer the ire of irate advertisers. Fox argued from the first, and failed on three separate occasions, in front of three different judges, to have the case tossed out on the grounds there is no hard, fast, and written rule against deliberate distortion of the news.

wow! You won the battle but lost the war ...way to go Faux News! Hope that $425,000 was worth all that lost revenue.

Is this the court case about the story on Monsanto and the bovine growth hormone they put in milk that supposedly does not harm anyone? The reporters tried to tell the truth but Faux News would not let them.

yup it was! here is the link

simply amazing.

this story kinda reminds me of the Bush losers trying to argue FOR Torture. Now Murdoch and Faux News has found themselves arguing FOR lying.

Yup...the new Faux Logan:

Fair and Balanced Lies.

or maybe

All the Lies Fit to Print

From the article

The ruling basically declares it is technically not against any law, rule, or regulation to deliberately lie or distort the news on a television broadcast.

I bet Orson Wells would have liked to know that.

Sure would have cleared up a lot of trouble after the War of the Worlds broadcast, and that wasn't even news.

The media do not exist to inform,
nor even to entertain,
but to sell.

Deal with it.

Lordie - Hearst, McCormick and Loeb knew that decades ago. herm

ummm Logan=Slogan...stupid pebkac

This is an old story.

They all do it.

Some better than others.

When they are caught they get fired--see Dan Rather.

"The ruling basically declares it is technically not against any law, rule, or regulation to deliberately lie or distort the news on a television broadcast."

The most often used ploy is omission.

See ABC infomercial on Obamacare.

Murph does know that Rather told no lie about Bush. He just couldn't prove it. herm

That's the most absurd thing I've ever heard. How can something that can't be proven be taken as fact?

How can something that can't be proven be taken as fact

Because of this ruling, according to Faux news, Rather did nothing wrong.

The Federal Communications Commission has ended one of the most bitter and protracted media disputes in the Tampa Bay area. In a July 23 ruling, the FCC found that Fox 13, WTVT did not distort the news about a milk additive.

"How can something that can't be proven be taken as fact?"

Oh for chrissake! Rather was unable to document the sad story - which everyone already knew - about Bush's sorry excuse for military service. How can you document that the sun rose yesterday? herm

Rather was unable to document the sad story - which everyone already knew

If 'everyone knew', then there must've been proof of it. Are you saying that Rather was to stupid to find the proof that everyone else had?

How can you document that the sun rose yesterday?

Navigational logs, observatory logs, etc. But no need to document it. The motions of the planets, unlike people's behavior, is highly predictible. You're comparing bananas and turnips.

Honestly, is anyone surprised that FoxNews would litigate for the right to lie on it's news network?

Sounds like Herm would fit right in at Fox News.
