Bernie Madoff will face a judge Monday to be sentenced. So much about this entire Madoff episode is hard to understand. To begin with, most of us can't follow the financial complexities that allowed him to hide this for so long, and even more startling, is that people who did claim to understand it, never questioned him even though they invested millions.

In the end, Madoff comes off as a tired and disgraced old man, who is probably going to spend the rest of his life in prison. Very little of the money remains for restitution, which is another hard to understand part of the story.

In 5 years or so, the majority of Americans will not remember his name. Very strange episode in history.

Madoff will do easy prison time at some posh "Club Fed" -- probably with tennis courts, a swimming pool, and a 52" HDTV in his cell.

from the article -

...Very little of the money remains for restitution, which is another hard to understand part of the story...

Wrong. I'm sure A LOT of the money remains for restitution. But the whereabouts of these billions $$$ will never be known.

But don't you agree Califchris, with my point, that's very hard to understand? How can billions disappear? It's inexplicable.

How can billions disappear? It's inexplicable.

Numbered Swiss accounts?

The Cayman Islands?

Other offshore financial havens that ask few questions?

Pretty easily explained, after all.

Perhaps we should waterboard Mr. Madoff (we don't really have to do it, just a realistic threat would work) and find out?

Just kidding, of course.

Jurisprudence is for everyone, you know.

It works somewhat better for the rich, but alas, they are the ones who can pay the big attorney's fees.

Hookers, Coke and Fast cars would account for about 1 billion.

The rest was just wasted.

In the end, Madoff comes off as a tired and disgraced old man, who is probably going to spend the rest of his life in prison.

True that.

He's also a poster child for why deregulation of the markets (or lax enforcement of regulations) is a bad idea.

The free hand of the market is a thief and Madoff made off with so many people's money despite a lot of warning signs that he was the Prince of Thieves.

Hope he does hard time but as CChris noted he most likely won't.

At least let him be locked up till he dies as a lesson to any others who would let "greed is good" be their mantra.

Be Well.

Bernie will be sentenced to Communiity Organiser Service by the "Chosen One", and join his financial team to guide the USA out of financial difficulties.

NEWS UPDATE: Mr. Madoff was found in a Chinese restaurant, on Madison Ave, three blocks from his Park Ave residence. He lost consciousness after eating an order of "General Mao's Chicken".

Three Asians males, in dark suits and sunglasses
were seen attempting to revive Mr. Madoff, but they left the scene before the ambulance arrived.

BS Obama/World-Wide News SuxUps

Y'know, maybe they should be kind to this creep and spare him a prison sentence. Maybe probation.
THEN turn him over to the Jews of New York who will devise some torment fit to be an example for the next eon of what happens when you betray your own.
Hell simply is not properly funded enough to provide facilities fit for such special care cases. This is one example faith-based charity might be the best way.

The free hand of the market is a thief

That's insane.. the "Free hand" of the market has also created the most opportunity for everyone, the most free people on earth, and enabled the most generous people on earth.

Up in Canada, except for the "Free hand" of the American people, you'd have been part of the Soviet empire years ago..

Be careful about biting the hand that feeds you.

Do you ever writing anyting other than banal, platitudinous drivel?

It ought to be mandatory that white collar criminals do "hard labor" on ye ole rock pile.
