In a live interview on CNBC, Warren Buffett says there has been little progress over the past few months in the "economic war" being fought by the country. "We haven't got the economy moving yet." While the economy is a "shambles" and likely to stay that way for some time, he remains optimistic there will eventually be a recovery over a period of years. Buffett says the nation should concentrate on creating jobs.

Buffett: Economy in Shambles - No Signs of Recovery

What the hell does Jimmy Buffett know about the economy?

dig a little and you will find that jimmy in fact knows a thing or two

Well, he know's it's five o'clock somewhere.

yes, in margaritaville.

warren's been betting against the dollar for years:

www.businessweek.com

and years:

www.usenet.com

the 2003 info was the catalyst in my delving deeper into economic information - seems there are a few holding the strings.

Jimmy Buffett know a shitload about brand recognition.

As to the subject of the thread, no shit. Keep sending the nation's capital and jobs overseas for decades and this is what you get.

The US either has to become a producer nation as opposed to consumer nation or the US will have to lower it's standard of living dramatically.

Which one do you think will happen?

Hey Kanrei...

Mr. Buffet forgot to mention that Government spending will ruin the economy...

I don't understand why you are the only one who knows that.

Man warren and I must be two dumb asses

Mortaritaville, the song

first link is music in case you're at work reading this.

and the site: http://www.iraq-songs.com/

what was your first fucking clue, Captain Obvious?

Buffett was playing to Obama with that little talk. It made me sick, saying a blanket statement like "Obama's doing all the right things'

I guess he has decided to cover for his MidAmerican energy exec's who said cap + trade was horrifically stupid. IF you want utility companies to do expensive re-tooling, into tech that doesn't even exist...why tax the hell out of them too??????

It is in shambles and will stay in shambles until we find a way to inject PEOPLE back into the system or a war comes along to save the butt of the guy we elected to pull us out. herm

Cap and trade does nothing to reduce evil co2. It's a shell and nut game designed to make the bigger bigger and squash the little. Not to mention finish the task of outsourcing what little manufacturing remains in US. And I do mean, little.

A nation of consumers is in short time consumed.

Hey Buffett--welcome to our world!

Buffett knows about the "War" being waged. HE also knows about the Queen's gold being stolen. He also knows about the London safety deposit box raids that tell the whole story about drug money laundering by the US. He also knows about Wanta and the Chinese.

It is good to be in the "know".

Well Well Well, I could have told him the economy was fucked when he started supporting Obama. Guess he's learned you can't trust a communist after all.

"Buffett says the nation should concentrate on creating jobs"

If this is true then Mr.Buffett knows full well that the best way to "create" jobs is for the US Govt to "Instigate" another (illegal) war or wars against some other weak (having no military) countries! In fact this is really the only method of "job creation" that the US Govt knows of or has employed in recent history!!!

Um how about making our fricken TV's and fake vomit here? Most of the warehouses are around and can easily be converted to manufacturing.

How much extra would a person pay for a US made plasma TV? Would they live if the dollar store became the 1.99 store?

The largest tax increase yet, and guess who takes it on the chin?

We all do. What's the matter with you dems do you WANT to pay more taxes? How about 150% more for electricity, 25% more for food, 25% more for gasoline?

God help us all......

Ok Warren...you said Obama was going to be OK for the country....did you not see the socialism or did you believe him too on the "90% will get a tax cut" statement.

IF he gets the Carbon tax in (for what? CO2 feeds the plants) - we will be: 3 Trillion more in debt + 1.6 Trillion in extra cost for Health care (Medicare and SS are already broke). All of that will have to be paid for in Taxes and will be an additional drain on the economy ( remember Gov. revenues actually DECLINE in high taxation )

So...higher interest rates (Higher payment on the debt)higher fixed cost = massively higher taxes + additional cost with Cap and Trade on power = massive increase in our taxes and only healthy illegal aliens to show for it ( and no future for our families)

You put yourself in the same class as Buffett?

LOL

"the largest tax increase yet"

Gee, what did you expect after the largest debt yet?

Stop spending, spendforth

And the Obama bashers continue to drift peacefully and untroubled through their comatose existences, vaguely discontent with life and somehow wishing they could make that their president's fault. They still holler "socialism" and "ya shoulda knowed better" with nary a clue as to what they're about. herm

"Stop spending, spendforth"

I've been preaching that since before the guy with the (D) after his name got elected. Therein lies the difference.

I don't care about the "difference".

either you belive obama is spending too much or not.

the fact that you can't say 2 words without turning around to look backward and say something says a lot more.

TAMPA - Tampa will lose part of its cigar heritage in August when Hav-A-Tampa shuts its factory near Seffner and lays off about 495 employees, closing a factory that has been operating since 1902.

The company announced the closing today.

Many employees there make Hav-A-Tampa's iconic Jewels, inexpensive machine-made cigars known for their birchwood tips. Some workers have labored there for two decades or longer, including one who's been there for 50 years, said Richard McKenzie, a senior vice president of human resources for Altadis USA, which owns Hav-A-Tampa.

Altadis tried to keep the plant open by closing it for a week or two at a time and furloughing workers. Eventually, though, the company couldn't cope with a steep drop in consumer demand, brought on by the recession AND A LARGE NEW TAX ON TOBACCO PRODUCTS, McKenzie said

really, is it bad to raise taxes in a recession. hmm obama says its ok to over tax industry. must be another reason, i mean common sense says if obama says it, it is true.

If they get cap and trade and Obamacare passed we are so screwed. Buffet would leave the country. We all got what we paid for, Pelosi running the country and dancing Obama like a puppet.

Which one do you think will happen?

You can let us know when you get done milking the cows and slopping the hogs.

Danni once accused me of wishing to return to an agrarian society. That couldn't be further from the truth, but if things don't change for the better and if the dollar doesn't regain some standing, that's exactly where we'll be headed.

BUT WAIT A MINUTE

isnt this guy the prom queen of the obama fuckup squad..

how is the REAL leader of the country going to respond to this.,..you know who...G soros

Buffett: Economy in 'Shambles'

No shit. After the Dubya daisy cutter detonated, it'll probably take a decade to get the economy off of life support. Just think how bad it would be if Clinton hadn't interrupted the Whimpy and Chimpy debacles.

and here we are again

the economy belongs to obama

how do I know

the editor of the times ..keller said so last sunday..

It isn't all his yet, but it is becoming more and more his every day. The Bush deflections have about 3 more months of validity left.

It isn't all his yet, but it is becoming more and more his every day. The Bush deflections have about 3 more months of validity left.

Can we quote you on this?

I'm tired of being called Bush Sympathizer when I point to what should be obvious flaws in the plan of spending 100's of billions to trillions of dollars "stimulating" the economy.

I'm also getting kinda tired of being called an Obama sympathizer when I point out the obvious flaws in the last eight years.

Just wondering when everyone's going to get on the same sheet of music.

Ax,
YOu can quote me yes, but it will not make you any friends here. I am pretty much not liked by partisans on both sides (something I am quite proud of actually). Anytime anyone here takes a stance that there is little difference between the two sides, they become the pariah of the site.

Isnt this the same ass wipe that Obama said he got his economic advice from?

Thank God Buffett was advising Obama. I think the plan was for Obama to put the pedal to the metal and drive this country to bankruptcy while Buffett and the hedge funds wait to short the crap out of everything.

Just wait til all the new taxes start to erode peoples income even more which means more money in the public sector, less in the privet sector. I guess I won't be going out to eat as often or buying as much stuff. I'm sure all the business's who depending on my spending understand.

The Government now accounts for about 35-40% of GDP. Can anyone see where this is going?

They still holler "socialism" and "ya shoulda knowed better" with nary a clue as to what they're about. herm"***

And the Obama sycophants continue to drift through their entitled, intellectual hibernation, vaguely content with their government handout or gratification in the fact that the social reforms they have championed have "helped someone." They reply to the hollering with "you don't even know what socialism is" and "at least he's doing something" without a glimmer of thought as to what the future outcome will be.

I like Buffett, and I own THREE shares of his "B" stock.. Which I bought several years ago.. and its done pretty nicely.. so yes, I like Buffett.

But he's a weird duck.. smart no doubt, but weird. Read "The Snowball, Warren Buffett and the business of Life" to get a great snapshot of his life and thoughts.

I also like Jimmy Buffett's "hamburger in paradise" and since Warren B's favorite foods are evidently hamburgers and cokes.. maybe there is in fact some connection there.. who knows.. call Suzy Orman.
