Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Wednesday, June 24, 2009

At his news conference yesterday, President Obama's second question was to Huffington Post blogger Nico Pitney, and it was clear that it had been arranged in advance. "I know Nico Pitney is here from the Huffington Post," Obama said. "I know that there may actually be questions from people in Iran who are communicating through the Internet. Do you have a question?"

The administration plants questions at a press conference? Wow, that's never happened before.

I'm shocked. Shocked and appalled, I tell ya.

ah yes and again

a little blurb from me and TA DA....its a thread..

this responsibility on my shoulders can be a real burden at times

Someday RCADE will be there for a press conference and Obama will say, "RCADE is here from the Drudge Retort and has a question from his most famous blogger, FWTHOM...."

Cute Fwthom!

Really, what is this supposed to be - a big surprise?

TA DA....its a thread..

Too bad you can't learn to start your own. The rest of us seem to be able to. The Nooner would go back to being fun.

Planting a question at a presidential press conference is lame. Nico Pitney has been doing remarkable work covering the Iranian unrest and it's nice to see him recognized, but not by turning him into Jeff Gannon.

Fatwa Thom.

Soon the press will have Obama controlled teleprompters

What next, will departments of the government plant false news and propaganda stories in the press thru paid writers working undercover for the government?

They anchored the news from the white house last week did they not?

They refused to allow the GOP a chance to voice their opinion too...

Now you're shocked?

Too bad you can't learn to start your own. The rest of us seem to be able to. The Nooner would go back to being fun.

I can see one thing or reason why its okay
if obama REALLY wanted a question from someone in iran, why couldnt he ask someone like this guy who apparently has that info to ask that
but it seemed like barry thought he could get away with it and noone would know

HE should have just added that on to the beginning statement and agenda...you know

TRANSPARENCY......like we were supposed to get all along

Glad to see there's finally something on them....

You mean other than dandruff and cat hair?

None of these reporters would have volunteered to give up their own question for one from Iran, so it was a good idea by the WH to plan one in advance.

Had it have been something substantive, I can see where there might be legitimate bitching about it, but not for this.

Did you READ the article? Looks to me like that is exactly what he did...

"I know that there may actually be questions from people in Iran who are communicating through the Internet," Obama went on. "Do you have a question?"

Pitney recognized his prompt. "That's right," he said, standing in the aisle and wearing a temporary White House press pass. "I wanted to use this opportunity to ask you a question directly from an Iranian."

I know what it said...dimwitty...????

he should have just included it in his opening remarks and not try to hide it like he did
I dont see anything wrong with him at the end of his opening statement

say...thanks to whats his name from whatchamacallit

we have a question from mohammed who's his name...

thats all the point IM making

Big shocker, the typical "this is no big deal since it's Obama" dorks are out in full force. You people are so predictable it's sad.

sad to say JOE that IM sort of on the fence with them but AGAIN....it seemed like he wanted to do it but didnt want to LOOK like it was a plant

and the question REALLY IS though ...how many OTHER questions have been planted and will there be any in the future

but ALL IN ALL...as I so expertly referenced earlier..
it was FINNALY almost a real press conference as there were more than once that oBAMA was on his heels

I know. With Bush all you had to do was look in the White House check book register to find out. I'm sure Obama is much more clever than that.

still waiting on an actuall funny about my broad and muscular and 'manly' shoulders supporting the two magnificent "GUNS"

"more than once that oBAMA was on his heels"

Which one of the right wing talkers told you that. He was completely fine the entire time.
Did you actually watch it or just listen to the review from Hannity or Rush???

Kudo's to Rcade for putting this on the frontpage.

Lefties went apeshit when Jeff Gannon sucked sack for Bush.

Other than Rcade, where in the hell are all of you lefties now when Obama does the same thing?

#19 | Posted by afkabl2 at 2009-06-24 01:20 PM

I don't even mean to suggest that this is a big deal, as our political system has become such a joke that I'd be surprised if this ever didn't happen. My point is that there are some people on this site whose responses are so predictable that you can tell they haven't even thought about the story.

he should have just included it in his opening remarks and not try to hide it

He should have scheduled a separate event with Pitney, not taken up press conference time with a planted question. The purpose of a presidential press conference is to show the country that their leader can answer hard questions. We can't let this kind of stagecraft creep into the event, because the White House -- no matter who is president -- would love to stop making the president take real questions from the White House press corp.

If that didn't piss ya off try this

Amen.

You heard it here first:

Cap and trade, when it passes, will NOT be accurately reported. It will directly result in more than doubling energy costs for ALL Americans. It is a tax that will affect EVERYBODY. You know what? Fine. Obama and the Dems won fair and square. With unsustainable deficits, our government needs tax revenues very badly. However, through a combination of stupidity, ignorance, bias, and a couple of somewhat related events that will blur the issue - this will become a reporting issue of the Dems making. Cap-n-trade will become those evil, greedy energy executives engaging in price-gouging. The press will eat up the Dem-stance without question.

As bad as I think Cap-n-trade is, the thing that will piss me off the most is the inaccuracies of reporting on its obvious consequences.

"Massachusetts Representative Barney Frank, an acknowledged homosexual, today confirmed that his Washington apartment had been used as a callboy headquarters by a male prostitute for a year and a half until late 1987. Responding to a story in today's Washington Times, Frank said he had hired the prostitute out of his own funds as a personal aide and fired him when he found out what was going on."

Thanks, I'd misplaced my transcript of the August 25, 1989 edition of ABC's "World News Tonight."

"AND ..I assume that most libs didnt listen to recaps from BOTH sides........as I did"

We don't need to be told what he said, so we don't need to listen to either side recap his news conference.

" It is a tax that will affect EVERYBODY."

CBO reports it will cost $173. per family per year or do you only pay attention to them when they are putting out big numbers about health care?

#35 | Posted by danni

It will more than double energy costs for ALL of us.

It IS a tax on every American citizen.

If you think it's justified - fine.

But don't pretend that it is anything other than what it is. Don't buy into the hyperbolic bullshit that the Dems are going to trot-out when the public becomes outraged over skyrocketing energy costs.

CBO reports it will cost $173. per family per year

The number I have seen is around a 130% increase - that translates into a lot more than $173 per year.

The final number will be higher. Obama has a bad habit of being conservative with his estimates, like unemployment.

CBO reports it will cost $173. per family per year or do you only pay attention to them when they are putting out big numbers about health care?

Like the fact it will be a $1.4 billion a year for the next decade? This is your party's bill. How about SCHIPs real cost projections of $28 billion and a shortfall of $47 billion from 08-17? Something the dems and Obama ignored earlier this year. Yet was still increased and passed. God only knows how you can think they have a clue and have given any indication they are capable.

Like the fact it will be a $1.4 billion a year for the next decade?

Sorry that should have been $141 billion a year.

The CBO estimates that the bill submitted by Congress for the new health care reform will cost more than $1 Trillion in the next 10 years. As it is written now, it will only insure about 16 million of the 47 million who are uninsured and they estimate that 15 million Americans who now have insurance through their employers will lose it and be shifted to the government prcrytopean.newsvine.com

Is Ish advocating the return of the Fairness Doctrine?

That being said, if the GNoP'ers went to ABC and asked them to do a story on their alternative plan (I know, there isn't one, but just pretend for a minute), and ABC said no, then I would agree that would be wrong.

Obama knew this because White House aides had called Pitney the day before to invite him, and they had escorted him into the room. They told him the president was likely to call on him, with the understanding that he would ask a question about Iran that had been submitted online by an Iranian.

funny to hear he defenses of this. Why can't the defenders just admit how unethical this is?

Lefties went apeshit when Jeff Gannon sucked sack for Bush.
Other than Rcade, where in the hell are all of you lefties now when Obama does the same thing?

you're applauding as sane and as the same your comparison of these two people and the events:

Nico Pitney...
is National Editor at the Huffington Post. He was previously Deputy Research Director at the Center for American Progress and Managing Editor of ThinkProgress. He lives in Washington, DC, and has appeared on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, and NPR. Nico can be reached at
pitney@huffingtonpost.com.

James Dale Guckert (born 1957) (a.k.a. Jeff Gannon)...
posed as a conservative columnist under the pseudonym Jeff Gannon and was given credentials as a White House reporter between 2003 and 2005, eventually being employed by the news organization Talon News.

Although he did not qualify for a Congressional press pass, Gannon was given daily passes to White House press briefings "after supplying his real name, date of birth and Social Security number." Gannon came under public scrutiny for his lack of a journalistic background prior to his work with Talon and his involvement with various homosexual escort service websites using the professional name "Bulldog".

Gannon resigned from Talon News on February 8, 2005. Continuing to use the name Gannon, he has since created his own official homepage and worked for a time as a columnist for the Washington Blade newspaper, where he confirmed he was gay after he was outed as a homosexual prostitute.

Talon News: a virtual organization with no physical office space or newsroom, Talon News was owned by a conservative activist group called GOPUSA. Robert Eberle, the president and CEO of GOPUSA, held both titles for Talon News as well. According to Media Matters, "Talon News apparently consists of little more than (Robert) Eberle, (Jeff) Gannon, and a few volunteers, and is virtually indistinguishable from GOPUSA.com.

wOw. maybe this conversation is really why the President accepted this -- i doubt it.

much of the right either refuses or are incapable of doing any real critical work before rabid condemnation and marching out [intolerance] for blood.

no wonder America has fallen so far behind in all things growth and leadership -- economics follow.

the only thing remotely resembling truth from Gannon were the final words of that famous planted question: "...how are you going to work with people who seem to have divorced themselves from reality?" of course, he was not factual at any time preceding those last words, i.e., the supposed comments about soup lines had not been made by Reid, but had been satirically attributed to him by conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh.

Most recently, Gannon operated JeffGannon.com, a blog where he criticized those who exposed him, the "Old Media" and the "Angry Gay Left". The site has since been taken offline and the domain expired.

The stated point wasn't a question ABOUT Iran, it was to get a question FROM Iran.
The reporter works for the Huffington Post...He was not in Iran, so how did he ask a question FROM Iran. Are you really trying to argue, someone in Iran called the WH and said we want to ask the president a question, and the question was fed to the reporter to ask....please grow up.

Here's a little more straightforward account of what happened...

www.startribune.com

Obama knew from reading this guy's article that he had been getting communications via the Internet from Iran. He invited him to the press conference so that he could ask one of the questions he had received online from Iran.

From what I can see, they were upfront about it. If they had been trying to be sneaky Obama would just have called on the guy and then been "delightfully surprised" that he had a question from an Iranian.

But instead he specifically stated that was why the guy was there.

So again, maybe somebody can tell me why this is so bad?

I'm waiting for Roger to get his invite to a Obama pressfess...

"...about those smokestacks on the moon..."

SanAntonioRogue,

It was wrong because it was a press conference not a town hall meeting or some other type of political theater. There should be a wall between the press and the executive branch and they shouldn't be working together even if you think the cause is just. He has the power and the press should be watching him and using an event like this only hurts the credibility of the press (well, what little they seem to have).

This is not a surprise. Obama is a dictator that controls the media and everyone knows it. If he doesn't like your new organization, he cuts off access. The news organizations play along for ratings.

Soon one of the networks will finally get smart and realize that news ratings for the Obama ass-kissers are on the decline (witness ABC, NBC and CNN in deep declines while Fox ratings soar). They will soon get the wise idea that by criticizing Obama's ridiculous failures so far (witness his handling of the Stimulus and auto industry disasters) they will stand-out from the Obama chorus and gain viewers. Obama's approval ratings will fall another 10% by end of summer because of this - guaranteed.

Now a major network is doing the news from the white house... So that station has effctivly become the voice of the government...

I think it was an attempt to get Obama to speak on Iran without making his comment appear to Iranians though he were dictating from afar; rather he's responding directly to some Iranian who (we are to believe) actually asked this question.

Tacky... but not as tacky as having the Kuwaiti ambassador's daughter lie to Congress that Iraqi troops are throwing Kuwaiti neonates out of their incubators and leaving them on the floor to die.

Ahhhhhhhh.....the rantings of a FUX News troll.

FAUX News claims 'unprecedented access' at least three times during Bush's last term in office to do fluff pieces on the man and now they and their retarded viewers are whining about ABC, claiming that no news organization has ever had the kind of 'unprecedented access that ABC is getting. How quickly they forget.

I guess they miss the days in which 'reporters' would be paid by the Bush White House to run bogus 'news' stories.

One more thing, with FAUX News ratings 'soaring' (as if that should somehow be the new election in your simple mind), wouldn't that make FUX News the most MAINSTREAM of the MAINSTREAM MEDIA?

Shucks.....I guess you can't use that old tired line about 'Liberal MSM'. Well, I guess you can, but you'll look like an idiot.

Kind of the way your response exposes you for the political lemming you are. You might want to move to Iran if you think this is real news reporting. It would fit nicely with your view of a free press.

Why would anyone with a brain think any different, The big eared scumbag can't think on his feet, or speak with out help. Idiots don't give a damn but the people in America that does matter knows and you can bet your worthless lives on that.

I'm on drums. Couple more pieces and we'll have a full DR band here.

I was a drummer for years pre-carpal tunnel. I have not played in 10 years.

Danforth - 12 String Guitar

If playing Rock Band counts, I am a kick ass Expert Bassist.

Not only do I play drums, I work in IT.

I'm screwed.

LOD,
Just practice your rudiments. I didn't. I thought they were a waste of time and went right to full set. I regret it because I was damn good, but never built up my muscles to stay good.

Guitar,bass,vocals.
And on occasion the almighty omnichord.

"Back in 1990, the Government seized the Mustang Ranch brothel in Nevada for tax evasion and, as required by law, tried to run it. They failed and it closed. Now we are trusting the economy of our country and our banking system to the same nit-wits who couldn't make money running a whore house and selling whiskey!"

Whores and whiskey is the domain of the left, not the right. Now, if they had opened up a Catholic Church to molest children in 1990, that would have raised cash hand over fist. The right knows about Altering Boys.

=D

Back at the ranch

On Thursday, Pyongyang vowed to enlarge its atomic arsenal and warned of a "fire shower of nuclear retaliation" if provoked by the U.S.

What the hell is ObamanaHole gonna do about this!

Obama Sucks!

I also know a stretch that has worked wonders.

I started getting "the tingle" a few years ago. I wore some wrist braces that didn't do much for me, but an older IT guy who no doubt has struggled with repetitive stress injuries showed how you can stretch by putting your palms flat on a desk with your fingers facing toward you, and kind of lean into it to stretch out those wrists. The tingle is gone and I'm playing more now than ever.

I would advise anyone reading this to look up the stretch though in lieu of trying it based on my description. Maybe not, but if done wrong I could imagine someone spraining a wrist or something.

When are the people going to wake up and realize this Omama is wearing no clothes? The guy is an empty shell. So he can read a teleprompter. Wow! Big deal! Smooth talk sometimes can mask a wicked heart. The guy is up to no good. He seems to hate America and Americans. Hes all about gloom and doom soup-line America and blame everyone else.
He seems to enjoy the despair.

Coming kind of late to this thread but just wanted to point out it is a BOGUS article. Dana Millbank has been totally bent out of shape by Pitney's coverage of Iran for awhile now and to take anything Millbank says at face value--regarding anything--is just plain foolish.

Dana Millbank is a caricature of a journalist, one whose ego is only surpassed in size by his sense of entitlement.

I think the saddest part was that the Adm defense is that the "planted" question was the toughest. What Obama didn't see this coming? Can you be blindsided by your own question? Doesn't that prove the press is in the bag for Obama? He has to pick questions in advance to get tough one?
The press should be ashamed of themselves. Of course, they won't be because they are too busy dealing with that thrill running up their legs.
