In an interview with the Pakistan newspaper Dawn, President Obama described his affinity for the country, which he visited with college roommates, and how he was taught to cook its dishes such as keema and daal. "You name it, I can cook it," he said. "I have a great affinity for Pakistani culture and the great Urdu poets."

"Pakistani culture and the great Urdu poets."

A lot of oxymorons thrown together in one place.

And the other day he killed a fly, too. More front page headlines for the fawners.

How about this for a universal poetry:

Very interesting the University is standing by their professor and not bowing down to special interest groups!
www.snopes.com

The story begins at Michigan State University with a mechanical engineering professor named Indrek Wichman. Wichman sent an e-mail to the Muslim Student's Association. The e-mail was in response to the students' protest of the Danish cartoons that portrayed the Prophet Muhammad as a terrorist. The group had complained the cartoons were 'hate speech'. In his e-mail, he said the following:
Dear Moslem Association,
As a professor of Mechanical Engineering here at MSU I intend to protest your protest.

I am offended not by cartoons, but by more mundane things like beheadings of civilians, cowardly attacks on public buildings, suicide murders, murders of Catholic priests(the latest in Turkey), burnings of Christian churches, the continued persecution of Coptic Christians in Egypt, the imposition of Sharia law on non-Muslims, the rapes of Scandinavian girls and women(called 'whores' in your culture), the murder of film directors in Holland ,and the rioting and looting in Paris France .

This is what offends me, a soft-spoken person and academic, and many, many of my colleagues. I counsel you dissatisfied, aggressive, brutal, and uncivilized slave-trading Moslems to be very aware of this as you proceed with your infantile 'protests.'

If you do not like the values of the West - see the 1st Amendment -you are free to leave. I hope for God's sake that most of you choose that option .

Please return to your ancestral homelands and build them up yourselves instead of troubling Americans.

Cordially,

I. S. Wichman
Professor of Mechanical Engineering

The Muslim group at the university didn't like this too well. They're demanding that Wichman be reprimanded and the university impose mandatory diversity training for faculty and mandate a seminar on hate and discrimination for all freshmen. Now the local chapter of CAIR has jumped into the fray. CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, apparently doesn't believe that the good professor had the right to express his opinion.

For its part, the university is standing its ground in support of Professor Wichman, saying the e-mail was private, and they don't intend to publicly condemn his remarks.

"You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence. You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves."

Abraham Lincoln

Bush had a great affinity for frathouse culture and the great shithouse poets.

This ought to fire up the GOP base.

Obama's an unusual, cosmopolitan dude to have reached the White House. I wouldn't have believed it possible that we might have a president with an affinity for Urdu poets and Pakistani cuisine. This should drive some of the fringe crowd absolutely nuts.

To the person who scoffed at Pakistan having a rich culture, civilization there goes all the way back to the Indus Valley in 2600 BC.

That was me. And, courtesy of Google, I can pretend to have an affinity for all those things too. Ask me any question, on any topic, and I can have a good answer to you in about five minutes.

Maybe he really does appreciate Pakistani cuisine and Urdu poetry. Who knows? But I know it's damn near impossible to find a Pakistani restaurant, unless it's on a Seinfeld episode, even in uberliberal New York. And I would be hard put to find a book on Urdu poetry ANYWHERE. Maybe Obama got the only copy. Or maybe all his pluggin' and chuggin' on his Blackberry is just trolling search engines so he can appear conversational about Urdu poetry, to impress his many admirers, such as yourself.

But does he read Urdu poetry while sitting on the can due to the effects of Pakistani cuisine?

The still-popular art form usually features the story of a lover scorned by his beloved. And there is almost never a happy ending. "Often the beloved is often a total witch," says Gwen Kirk, a University of Texas master's candidate in the subject of Urdu poetry. "She breaks the lover's heart all the time; she neglects him. It's all about the process of trying to get closer to the beloved, and it's got a lot of Sufi and mystical elements as well."

That explains it. When Obama reads his Urdu poetry, he sees himself.

Oh no! Obama likes something I don't understand from a part of the world I fear: he must be evil- The Right

How did that broke mother fucker afford cigs, let alone a trip to Pakistan when he was in college?

Seriously, does anyone know? It didn't come from that slut he called a mother, and the sperm donor wasn't a part of his life, so where did the bread come from?

From the same conspiracy that fakes his birth certificate way back in 1961 in case he ever ran for office.

From what I have read, his Pakistani college friend (or roommate, I can't remember for sure) that he went there with came from an extremely wealthy family and probably picked up a good share of the tab.

That sure is a nice friend/roommate.

Strawman. Obama's just being silly, this time pandering to the Pakis, rather than to his libtards here at home.

"I hope I can visit Pakistan." Hope? You're the president. Pick up the phone, and you can be there Saturday! LMAO. Obama doesn't want to visit Pakistan any more than I do. Or you. We're just willing to call BS when we hear it.

"Obama's just being silly" says the willful idiot whose claim to wide exposure and deep knowledge of other cultures allows him to describe the phrase
"Pakistani culture and the great Urdu poets" as "A lot of oxymorons thrown together in one place." In this boob's case the handle "RightIsRight" is an oxymoron.

San,
I know my reply is snarky, but I remember scrounging $3 for a kegger, or $15 to split an 1/8 of pot with my friends.

I had forgotten about how nobody in the press had poked around to find out how that Paki trip was taken. It's just so wierd that nobody bothered to press that issue considering the petty shit that they usually delve in to.

Starvis is upset that RiR has called out his man.

I only WASTED a moment this morning watching abc but I quickly clicked off

they were talking over a pic of the white house waiting "BREATHLESSLY" for him and/or michelle to appear on the truman balcony

it was MUST SEE TV

You read Urdu poetry?'

Absolutely. So my hope is that I'm going to have an opportunity at some point to visit Pakistan,' said Mr Obama."

Who gives a fuck if he likes Urdu poetry! Can't wait to see the "Real answers to the tough questions" ABC plans to ask President Obama tonight.

Charlie Gibson- "Enough questions about this health care thingy Mr. President, we liked what you had to say before you said it. Lets talk about another pressing problem. THATS GREAT

and you are right...abc romantic division...

You think he's making up the fact that he visited Pakistan while in college? How cynical do you have to be to think the president is pandering for votes from the fans of Urdu poets?

Did you have the cash to travel to Pakistan when you were in college? Especially considering that Ivy League educations aren't cheap? Or did Obama not plan that far ahead?

Oh, the same crowd that Bush used to implement the 9/11 attacks.

as usual the dr idiots are out in full stream

urdu poetry is taken extremely seriously

only the intellectuals are really into it.

its a sign of high education as it takes an extremely high vocabulary to even understand it, let alone write it.

unlike english poetry, where any mentally challenged person (cookfish, rightisright) calls themselves a poet.

Bash away!!

Hell, even if he sank Hank Williams Sr's greatest hits (UGH!!) note-for-note, the mouth breathers would still find a way to attack it.

Who cares where it's aimed? We all know that, much like the republicans of today, that it will FALL SHORT.

You should know a thing or two about that.

btw

Urdu has been around much longer then pakistan.

In the heartland of India.

a mix of persian, arabic and sanscrit.

It takes the beauty of all those languages and incoropates them into one language for all the people of india to share.

Modern spoken hindi, is closer to urdu then to sanscrit.

All bollywood movies are in hindi, but it might as well be urdu.

***"Who cares where it's aimed? We all know that, much like the republicans of today, that it will FALL SHORT."***

Doesn't matter if it falls short, it's a test, on many levels. This one falls short, but the info gained from this test leads to improvements on the next generation. Take a look at where this one lands, calculate the distance, then lay in that distance from any middle eastern, or hell, maybe certain (eventually) South American country and see what lovely targets the idiots of the world now have. Snarky witless comments that serve to down play world events work well on know it all blogs, but "common sense" would say approaching this with your attitude might lead to darker days. Ahh, but before you start slobbering on the keyboard banging out that ever so trite "well what should he do, bomb them!?!?" and then throw out some "rtard" or "wingnut" epithet, understand that I'm not really attacking Obama's handling of this situation, and I'm not going to pretend I know what to do. All I was saying was I don't give a fuck if he likes Urdu poetry and Pakistani food, and I am waiting for the media to ask him some questions (and demand some real answers) about some shit that matters. But obviously you didn't pick that up, so in this case I'm afraid you were the one who fell short.

***"You should know a thing or two about that."***

Umm, I think you're projecting a bit. That's a shame, maybe you should buy a pump or some pills or something to help you with that.

Uh huh. They say that about modern "art" too. To me, some idiot just pissed in a jar and stuck a crucifix in it. But get a bunch of Harvard-educated bobbleheads around, and they'll be giving the "artiste" a prize for vision.

In fact, I'm working up an artistic piece right now . . .

Good for Obama. He can't wait to get to Pakistan. First time I've heard that in my lifetime.

My 'falling short' of you had nothing to do with sexual performance. Seems somebody is projecting.

"Snarky witless comments that serve to down play world events...."

Unlike your panic-filled comments with no real chance of happening? Do you often comment on the fantasy-land targets of NK missile tests and then pretend that there's no political motivation behind them?

No, no

Being a Muslim he would.

what did he have for lunch today? and who with? which reporter covered it? ooooh, i bet that was such an exciting moment! wow, watching history in the unmaking.

i doubt i'll double-take when i see him wearing a crown.

heh, i love to read, but hate most poetry. love me some Kipling and Hemingway though. hehe, Charles Bukowski is probably my favorite poet though; because he was nuts. Maybe this Urdu poetry is good though...but then i never attended a madras or lived in a muslim country. so, i don't have the benefit of that education. funny he didn't mention any of this during the campaign. funny that if anyone used his middle name or mentioned his attendance of a madras they were called racists, liars, whatever deflection the press and his supporters could come up with. no one should have been surprised to see black panthers with nightsticks intimidating voters. they are all buddies!

so, where did he learn this language? where is that passport he used to enter Pakistan?

Panic in my comments? Projection... No panic, just thoughts based on events in the world. Did I even mention that there wasn't any political motivation? More projection... Go back to the original comments and use some of your obvious skills of inference and see that the comments weren't intended to start a discussion on NK, but rather make the point that I DON'T GIVE A FUCK IF PRESIDENT OBAMA LIKES URDU POETRY, I WOULD RATHER HERE HIS VIEWS ON THINGS THAT MATTER.

Oh, and just what did you're "falling short" comment mean? Don't make smart ass comments and then fain indignation when someone comes back at you.

Urdu poetry has nothing to do with being Muslim.

It's like saying you enjoy Jimmy Buffet simply because you're Jewish.

Had I said 'coming up short', you might have a point, but I said 'falling sort'. Nowhere have I ever heard that used in a way related to virility. Please don't try to pretend that it was anything more than what it was. To do so cheapens your argument.

You like to pretend that others project on you a lot it seems. Has that been the defense mechanism you've used most of your life to weasel out of stuff?

Friends who have gone through Pakistan have told me that Pakistani non-veg is the best in the world. Didnt realize that Obama had traveled through Pakistan - hung out with Tosser - and solidified his Islam creds ....

dyn.politico.com

So, SanAn is the only one that has even heard anything on how Obama got the cash to travel to Pakistan? Nobody else seems to have an inkling?

Does anyone else find that odd? We know he wasn't rich. We know his mom and grandma weren't rich. We've heard a generous roommate may have sprung for the trip but that's highly doubtful. Especially considering the media would loved to have done a fluff piece on Obama via the roommate. "What was he like?" "Did he snore?" "Did he raise the toilet seat?" "Dis his poo smell like roses?"

We've heard a generous roommate may have sprung for the trip but that's highly doubtful.

#52 | Posted by 101Chairborne

Why? Because it doesn't fit some preconceived scenario that is more nefarious?

Apparently, according to the Obama campaign, In 1981 -- the year Obama transferred from Occidental College to Columbia University -- Obama visited his mother and sister Maya in Indonesia. After that visit, Obama traveled to Pakistan with a friend from college whose family was from there. The Obama campaign says Obama was in Pakistan for about three weeks, staying with his friend's family in Karachi and also visiting Hyderabad in Southern India. blogs.abcnews.com

Maybe Lolo Soetoro's money came into the equation.

Why? Because it doesn't fit some preconceived scenario that is more nefarious?

Nothing like that.
If it were true, how is it possible we don't know for sure? How has nobody asked? Why hadn't anyone tracked down the generous roommate and asked about Obama and the trip? You'd have to be pretty close friends with somebody to spring for their trip to Pakistan, right?

Are you able to admit that it's strange that he just happened to have a roommate pay for his trip to Pakistan (from Indonesia)?

If you don't find it strange, then you don't find it strange. Nobody knew anything about his trip until he dropped it while on the campaign trail and tried to claim it gave him more experience than Clinton or McCain in foriegn affairs.

***"Had I said 'coming up short', you might have a point, but I said 'falling sort'. Nowhere have I ever heard that used in a way related to virility. Please don't try to pretend that it was anything more than what it was. To do so cheapens your argument."***

Honestly, is that the best you've got? You make a smart ass comment, then get it thrown in your face, and now you want to parse words and try to act like you weren't being a smart ass. Judging by your weak ass comments you have no idea what virility is, just like you have no idea what my "argument" is, even though I never made an argument, simply a comment on the media and what I would like to hear the president discuss.

***"You like to pretend that others project on you a lot it seems. Has that been the defense mechanism you've used most of your life to weasel out of stuff?"***

You know me so well! "Falling short", "weasel out of stuff", you've got me pegged I say! The only weasel I see here is the one saying, "Had I said 'coming up short', you might have a point, but I said 'falling sort'." I have wasted enough time one this silly discussion. I fell like I'm talking to Celisary. But now I know, if I want to have another mindless chat, just set my alarm and log onto the DR around 3:00am, and there you'll be! Tell me, is your mother's basement comfortable? Falling short... classic.

Especially considering the media would loved to have done a fluff piece on Obama via the roommate.

so, where did he learn this language? where is that passport he used to enter Pakistan?

It wasn't until 2006 that Indonesia passed a dual citizenship law.
www.indonesiamatters.com

And Barack supposedly traveled to Pakistan on an Indonesian passport, which would indicate his citizenship status as Indonesian. But that's only a mere trifle considering that Barack is exempt from the laws of men.

Somehow the courts have found specious grounds for denying petitioners standing to contest Barack's claim of U.S. citizenship.

For someone who pays lip service to transparency, Barack has the most opaque persona, having denied access to his actual birth certificate, denied access to his school records, etc.

Wouldn't it be hilariously funny if Barry's educatioin had been financed by the CIA, especially considering the antipathy in which his sycophants hold such activity. But they would merely reform their opinions rather than criticize Barry. Values are formed to support biases.

"having denied access to his actual birth certificate"

Good God, Johnson, have you no compunction whatsoever about lying?

www.factcheck.org

Even WorldNutDaily finally gave up on that one.

"A separate WND investigation into Obama's birth certificate utilizing forgery experts also found the document to be authentic. The investigation also revealed methods used by some of the bloggers to determine the document was fake involved forgeries, in that a few bloggers added text and images to the certificate scan that weren't originally there."
