I like Sanford, and as an avid hiker (although I don't love hiking the AT) I like the fact that he enjoys hiking. But, going into an area where he could not be reached, and not putting contingencies in place, if that's true, was a mistake.

Governors, unlike Congressmen and Senators, actually have day to day executive responsibilities. Again, I'm a fan of Sanford, he's a talented and capable guy, but if this story is true, he should apologize for it.

heh. if it weren't for this site, I wouldn't know he was missing.

The AT isn't bad, actually. I've enjoyed the time I've spent on it, but most of that was within 20-50 miles of a trail town.

I live in Georgia, and have a cabin in the North GA mountains.. near where the AT begins.. for one thing, here in GA, much of the AT is steep, very steep, and as I get older, the less I enjoy steep trails..

There are also so many other nice trails, much less traveled (and OK, less steep) in North Georgia and East Tenn/Western NC that the AT is just lower on my list. I do love the idea of a trail from GA to Maine.. Plenty of people here have walked the entire thing..

I do love hiking the southern Appalachians here in the spring and fall.. too hot right now.

In my issue of Backpacker Magazine this month there's a write up on Jacks River Trail. It's a decent of 1500+ feet through 16 miles.

I've been planning a short section hike of the Foothills trail in SC this fall, but I may scratch that for early spring next year and go on the Jacks trail instead.

Sanford Disappearance Sparks Fight With Lieutenant Governor
www.huffingtonpost.com

...His absence has drawn more criticism. Some questioned who was in charge of South Carolina if he couldn't be reached. The National Guard and the state's top law enforcement agencies report to him, said Senate Minority Leader John Land, D-Manning.

Lt. Gov. Andrew Bauer said he'd been rebuffed by the governor's staff when he tried to find out where Sanford was and had not been put in charge in his absence.

"I cannot take lightly that his staff has not had communication with him for more than four days, and that no one, including his own family, knows his whereabouts," said Bauer.

Does anyone think we might get Obama, Biden, Pelosi and Reid to take a little hike on the Trail? It'd be nice to not hear from them for a few days, don't you think? Hell, maybe they'd all get lost...

My nephew hiked the AT a few years ago.
He said he might do it again,so if you see Little Pot and his friend Supernova say hi.

That would be peachy. Then Sen. Byrd would be in charge!

Does anyone really believe he was hiking without telling even his wife????

I think he was getting a different form of exercise.

Nope. Definitely fishy.

On the other hand, if I'm going hiking and don't want anyone to know where I am, my wife would be the first person I'd have cover for me.

Keep digging though. I'm sure there is a scandal here somewhere that will be good spank material for the likes of Jackass and others.

I didn't realize that when people say the GOP is lost in the wilderness that they meant that literally.

'Hiking' = cocaine infused sex-fest.

'Appalachian Trail' = Some hooker he picked up in Columbia.

Well, we know he didn't use Craig's List.

Take a few pictures to share with us when you get back?

Isn't he still in the hospital? Or is he scheduled to get out?

Take a few pictures to share with us when you get back?

I'll take pictures, but I'll share them with friends and family. It's nothing personal, but I'm not about to divulge personal details about myself on a blog or forum.

There's too many people here who I do not trust to not use that information to personally attack me. That last time I remember someone posting a picture of themselves was the dude who posted his wedding photos and he got torn to pieces by a group of anonymous dickheads who used his appearance to inflate their egos just a tad more.

Nope. No thanks.

Is that why his car was at the Atlanta airport 80 miles away from the trail?

Who was he "hiking" with? And what was his name?

Hey, 726, when you're hiking all the way to Argentina you gotta ditch your wheels somewhere.

Doc, I must have missed that one, although the Bill Press Show is now playing "Don't Cry for Me Argentina."

Mmmm - hot young gauchos!

Sanford, you sneaky bastard, you.

Which car was that?

The SUV he drove off in was left at Columbia regional airport.

Did he take Rush and his bottle of Viagara with him?

I had heard Atlanta... I posted a thread about it.

The state paper reported that the car was found at Columbia Airport and that someone had seen him getting on another plane in Greenville, SC.

It's what we in the intel biz call -- using tradecraft terminology -- shakin' yer tail.

Well Drunk Sarvis, until you can offer up some evidence that he's sucking dick or taking one in the butt, your speculation is nothing more than poor attempts at character assassination because he's "in the other party".

Speaking of "drunk," what have you been pouring down your gullet this morning?

How does my faux-Sanford signature post referring to the "intel biz" and "using tradecraft terminology" ("shakin' yer tail," as in eluding a shadow, someone following you) dovetail into your obvious fascination with man-on-man sex?

You'd be a hoot in a word association exercise.

Axiom: Oooh, oooh, fun, fun!

I don't drink sir.

It was a safe assumption considering the track record of the left on this site.

republican did something strange? must be a closet homo.

If anyone has a fascination with man-on-man sex, it's the folks who can't have a discussion without bringing it up.

Shall I go to the other threads and post them here for you, Drunk?

he told them - "he'd be deep in 'the bush' for awhile" - -
