Damn! My sister takes the train every day. She said her train went through this area 15 minutes before the accident.
I don't mean to downplay the seriousness of this accident, but how many are killed every week on DC highways?

Damn! My sister takes the train every day. She said her train went through this area 15 minutes before the accident....

I'm glad she's okay. 15 minutes is cutting it close!

Glad she's okay, too. But how many people are killed in D.C. every day despite the guns laws?

What state are you from, Diablo? California like me?

Go mass transit!!

Wait til you're driving fucking lawn mowers with seats on them per Government Motors' diktat.

LOL. The cheaper the punk the gaudier the patter.

Yesterday, I was told "if an American dies, YOU would be the first to make a smartass comment".

Well, notice who did that. Not me.

Shouldn't say such stuff. Nobody knows what happens tomorrow.

I'm impressed that he can still find parts for his K-Car.

I didn't know Dodge made tricycles...

"Go mass transit!!"

Want to compare the number of deaths per passenger miles with driving???

This crash between two trains in the Washington DC Metro system is a perfect metaphor for Obama's Administration.

Every couple years now we've had an incident that reveals the cracks in our country's aging infrastructure. And every time we bury our dead, talk about it for a week or two, and then forget it.

Six people dying in traffic accidents would be functionally non-news any given weekend any place larger than Des Moines.

The car industry couldn't pay for this much 'fear and doubt' if they wanted to.

I think it's a better example of how your synapses interact.

Truer than stated....fwthom

still a little mind boggling how this continues to happen?? the train, not the BaHu regime..!!!

Califchris..blessings to the sister..

The train that was hit was stopped waiting for clearance, which suggests there was a signal that told them to do that. The train that hit them therefore should have seen the same signals, which makes this sound like driver error.

.....and the 4000+ dead soldiers killed in Bush's war of choice....would they be a metaphor too?

Its amazing how something non-partisan like a train wreck can become a partisan issue.

The train wreck occurred last year, we are now involved in the clean up.

reports say travolta was seen running away from the accident.

I have no idea what caused the crash.. but here's my guess.. mismanagement .. per the NTSB's initial findings.. the train that crashed was listed as being unsafe.. But the DC politicos chose to do nothing about it.

Their answer will be: "we didn't have enough money".. but then, that's their standard answer for every problem them have.

I lived in Maryland and worked in DC... took the red line to the green line EVERY WEEK DAY until the first warm day and I had to smell the other passengers... then I started driving.

So, there but for the grace of GOD (and my nose)...

I feel sorry for the people hurt, and for the families of the dead.

I will say that the trains often got a little behind schedule and would push the speed to make up for it. My guess (and that is all it is) was that the driver of the second train was trying to make up a few minutes or something and either missed the warning to stop or was unable to stop due to an unsafe speed.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Investigators looking into the deadly crash of two Metro transit trains focused Tuesday on why a computerized system failed to halt an oncoming train, even though there is evidence that the operator tried to slow it down.

At the time of the crash, the train was also operating in automatic mode, meaning it was controlled primarily by computer. In that mode, the operator's main job is to open and close the doors and respond to emergencies.
