What are the real lessons of Iran for the USA?

1) Don't mix religion and politics.

2) Thank God for the separation of church and state.

3) The Republicans are utter hypocrites.

While I agree the religious right has been a detriment to our progress they are really not the comparable group to the Mullahs in Iran who call the shots, it is the corporate oligarchy and it is they who need to be taken out of power. America's real power resides in corporate board rooms who have benefited themselves to the detriment of the rest of us. I hope during my lifetime I see a rebellion on the scale of Iran's where the corporate elite finally lose their grip on power given them by the SC with corporate personhood. No corporation should be allowed to spend one dime to effect public policy.

When Karl Rove bought Pat Robertson's Evangel mailing list for the Texas Gov race, he was combining the power and money of corporate America with the raw voting numbers of the rightist Evangel movement.

Sorta like what Mussolini did with corporate power and nationalism to create fascism.

"...they are really not the comparable group to the Mullahs in Iran who call the shots..."

No... because they (the evangelical fundies) were not successful in getting that power...yet. But, as this very well written article points out that does not mean we should let our guard down. AND that does not mean that corporate America is not guilty of enriching themselves at the expense of the rest of us but that is a different story. They are not trying to make America a Theocracy but are just busy Raping America while they think no one is paying attention.

I did not know all of the stories here but I suspected all along some the things that Frank has pointed out such as what goes in the inner circles of organized religion. This is the second article today that I have read that confirms my belief (the other was the defector from Scientology) that these Religious groups need to be watched closely as they gain power and money and when they use this power and money for political purposes they should lose their tax exempt status. When they preach in church that Obama is evil they need to be held accountable. I would go so far as to call it a conspiracy in that they are attempting to undermine the Constitutional Government of the US. And it is all of our jobs to stay virulent and to defend the Constitution against all enemies...foreign or domestic!

stay virulent? hmm stupid spelchkr!

That would be STAY VIGILANT!

"Religious groups need to be watched closely as they gain power and money and when they use this power and money for political purposes they should lose their tax exempt status."

fine line what that implies, but yes in general to this

Corky and Redneckville are morphing into the same person.

Er, who are the authoritarians with totalitarian goals who are assuming control of so many aspects of lives of Americans? Hm, not the right. Could it be the left?

could it be the ones with the most gold? Sometimes the churches are the ones with the deep pockets.

Read this and see the game that this "church" played with the IRS.

You mean religious decisions like life does not begin at conception?
Ooops! Only religious people make religious decisions!
