Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

The longtime doctor of President Obama, Dr. David Scheiner, is skeptical that the health care plans currently working their way through Congress will do any good. Scheiner, 71, favors "Medicare for all," a single-payer system where the government would cover everyone and pay for it by cutting out waste in the system. "A neurosurgeon gets paid $20,000 for cutting into the neck of my patient," he said. "Have him get paid $1 million a year instead of $2 million or $3 million. He won't starve."

Cut costs bycutting services just like medicare. Great idea.

Free health care for everyone.
Obama gets it - he's realy in touch.

Be Well.

"Have him get paid $1 million a year instead of $2 million or $3 million. He won't starve."

He also might not be willing to be in school until he's almost 40 years old, starting with no savings and $400K or more debt, and the strong possibility that he never got married because he was working 110 hours a week for the last seven years of his residency.

Oh! Unless we plan to regulate the training of doctors instead. Neurosurgeons currently do college + 4 years med school + 7 years of residency (supposedly at "80 hours a week", but usually closer to 100, and occasionally a couple more years if they do a fellowship). We could cut that down to college + 2 years medical school + 2 years residency at 40 hours a week and then let him loose. I'm sure he'll be just as good.

Besides, they don't make 3 million. Most of the neurosurgeons I know make around $750,000 a year. Wah-wah, sure, but we're talking about a guy with a knife and your brain. He's earned it a hell of a lot more than the yahoo's on wall street. Why the hell are we so unwilling to pay these guys?

There is simply no reason that a system of forgiveness of student loans similar to that which we already have for teachers willing to teach in inner city schools couldn't be created.
I like this doctor's ideas and he actually practices medicine.
When you really think about it, single payer would reduce medical costs in this country more than any other system being considered but it would ELIMINATE health insurance companies. Gee, the same folks who thought letting GM go under are concerned with the welfare of these greedy snakes.

America pays more for medical treatment and insurance than many other industrialised nations that actually do manage to cover all of it's citizens.

Yer paying for it yer just not getting it because of the enormous profits being wrung from the system.

Speaking of not getting it...

Not only do you not read the articles around here you don't even read the headers under the headlines.

FTH: Medicare for all," a single-payer system where the government would cover everyone and pay for it by cutting out waste in the system.

They're talking about cutting back obscene profits and waste not services.

Are you ever right about anything?

EVAR?

A broken clock is right twice a day.

Try to live up to that standard.

K?

Be Well.

ERrrr....if you have a system that works pretty well, with a very low administrative cost then duh why would you want to expand it to include the less expensive to insure???? Why would you want to duh create a risk pool which includes the young and healthy instead of just the old and infirm???

Face the cold hard facts. There is only one reason we allow the present system to exist....insurance companies have powerful lobbyists with pockets full of cash.
That's it.
Defend it if you will but be honest about it.

Seconded.

All the years Spud's been coming here Danni has put up with more crap and made more sense than any other half a dozen posters anyone could care to name.

Danni RAWKS!

I don't agree with Danni about everything, but on healthcare we are certainly within the same ballpark. I admire her tenacity on the subject immensely.

"I don't agree with Danni about everything, but on healthcare we are certainly within the same ballpark."

I think health care is one of the basic issues which is preventing our economy from recovering. AT the company where I work the very generous owners supply us with good health care at no cost to employees and low cost for dependents. However, understandably, no one has had a raise in pay in years. I don't blame the owners, they are paying huge increase in insurance costs for us. Take that burden off their shoulders, we'll get raises, the economy will bounce back because of our increase buying power. It's simple economics combined with realistic humanity. No one should be without health care but no company should be burdened with such excessive health care costs, those costs should be spread accross the entire spectrum of Americans and managed in the most efficient manner which, unfortunately for insurance companies, is governmental.

They're talking about cutting back obscene profits and waste not services.

Some services will have to be cut. Either that or massive taxes.

Interesting though that this doctor thinks specialists (ie, neurosurgeons) are paid too much) but at the same time wants other doctors (primary care) paid more.

Some services will have to be cut. Either that or massive taxes.

Not neccessarily.

People will and should hafta pay fer elective surgery but not the stuff that saves lives.

Every other industrialised western nation on earth has nationalised health care except the US.

The willingness of Americans to put up with this kind of dangerous, immoral, illogical Social Darwininism is quite literally staggering to the outsider looking into yer country.

Spud pays 78 bucks a month fer health insurance and there is no such thing as not being eligible fer treatment due to "pre-existing conditions" or any other loopholes that the corporate for-profit health care providers in the US use as loopholes.

It's not about rugged individualism as some have intimated here it's about maximising profits by increasing human misery.

It's wrong.

Not to put too fine a point on it, it's Evil.

It must and shall be changed.

Here's hoping Obama finally gets it done.

Be Well.

"Interesting though that this doctor thinks specialists (ie, neurosurgeons) are paid too much) but at the same time wants other doctors (primary care) paid more."

Makes sense to me. Increase the amount that the doctor who finds your illness early instead of making the doctor who deals with it when it is life threatening later rich. In CAnanda, general practitioners make more than they do in the US.
These are the first line doctors, the most important really in the chain of treatments for what ever illness you deal with. In France they might come to your child's bed side and determine that a serious condition exists, do you really like the system that requires you to bring that child to the ER, wait for who knows how long, in the ER?
Is there really a question which health care system provides better care or why the US system is rated 37th in the world but first in profits????

We have the most profitable health care system in the world.
Congratulations.
Is there something wrong with this picture?

"Dr. David Scheiner took care of Obama for 22 years. But they don't see eye-to-eye on how to fix the health care system."

WOW...THIS IS TRULY NEWS!!!

Makes sense to me. Increase the amount that the doctor who finds your illness early instead of making the doctor who deals with it when it is life threatening later rich.

There's a reason why they are specialists. It's a completely different type of job. Neurosurgeons also deal with head traumas from accidents.

I'm for public healthcare but I also know it's not going to solve a lot of the existing problems we have.

This country does not have enough money to pay for modern medical technology; we're going to have to return to 19th century medical techonlogy in order to avoid national bankruptcy.

"A neurosurgeon gets paid $20,000 for cutting into the neck of my patient," he said. "Have him get paid $1 million a year instead of $2 million or $3 million. He won't starve."

Basketball players won't starve if their salaries are cut to 1 million a year. Lawyers won't starve it their salaries are cut to 1 million a year. Same with stock brokers, CEO's, actors, musicians, etc... Hell nobody would starve at 85K a year, let's just set everyone's salary there.

Oh right, this isn't the Soviet Union, its America. I think its time to switch to from Democrat to Independent. I don't recognize this party anymore and I've been a member since I've been old enough to vote.

Minimum wage laws are important and do something (though not really enough) to help the little guy out. Maximum wage ideas, sorry, are complete bullshit anti-american socialist nonsense. If the DNC supports this type of garbage they deserved to be replaced by the Republicans or some other party.

How long will the wait will be when an additional 46 Million uninsured are vying for the same number of doctors.

How many doctors will leave the profession as the gov't smothers them to death?

How many doctors will come in with substandard foreign degrees and dilute the system and quality of care?

How many will enter the medical field with the prospect of much lower pay, much longer hours while staring at a $250,000 student loan?

How many people that are in America illegally will be eligible for obamacare?

These indisputable facts represent the change you voted for. We can always print more money to cover this too.

AMEN, Green.

Senators and Presidents won't starve if we cut their salaries to $50k, especially considering he lives expense-free. Let's have charity begin at home, before we start volunteering to cut others' pay by two thirds.

I wonder how many big libtard movie stars, tort attorneys, governors, producers, Goldman Sachs execs--are excited about the idea of having their incomes slashed by more than half? Oh--but if you're a doc?--it's coming.

Let it come. America voted for this POS, and now we have to pay for it. Bring on cap-n-trade, bring on another enormous government boondoggle, bring on the tax hikes. America deserves to be punished for believing we can get stuff for free, just by raising taxes on that guy over there.

Oh, I don't know, Doc...'pears to me he's got it about right. All this doesn't look good to a LOT of people.

"A neurosurgeon gets paid $20,000 for cutting into the neck of my patient," he said. "Have him get paid $1 million a year instead of $2 million or $3 million. He won't starve."

Can we cut Kobe Bryant's pay too? How about Oprah?

We're in a mess, and he's gonna make it worse. Defend him, Doc...musn't criticize ANYTHING associated with Obama...right?

www.youtube.com

What's confusing about it? Obama's doc is no different from many libtards--it's not him who's volunteering to see his pay cut by 2/3--it's somebody else.

In fact, how much do you make Doc? You're a university professor, if memory serves. How about we cut you back to $45k? In this economy, you should be fine. That's a decent living in many parts of the country.

"A neurosurgeon gets $20,000 for cutting into the neck of a patient." LMAO. As if cutting into the spinal column of a human being doesn't require the most intelligent, highly trained, superbly equipped doctor the world has to offer. If it means someone is able to walk again, use his limbs again--$20,000 doesn't seem like that much, does it? For about the price of a used Honda Accord, you'll be able to use your arms and legs again?

Still, Obama knows best. And so does DoctanianUnity. Gobama! You put those greedy sonsabitches in their places again!

You gotta love the hubris, too. "If we move the money from the private sector, put a one-payer system in, a little bit of rationing, everything will be fine."

But what if it isn't? Isn't this the same group of retards who thought $20 billion would save AIG? And that $10 billion would save GM? Off by a magnitude of more than 10 times, in less than six months?

Still, you know best. Good thing we have a community organizer on the scene, to fix these things for us. Be a shame if it were somebody, you know, like who had a real job once upon a time.

Gobama! Sorry if I'm sounding like one of the 42 percenters.

"A neurosurgeon gets paid $20,000 for cutting into the neck of my patient," he said.
* * * *

And the reason HE is cutting into the neck of YOUR patient, and not YOU--is that you're not qualified to do so. You're not smart enough, not highly trained enough, not proficient enough--maybe you're even too old.

But don't let any of that get in the way of your obvious jealousy, though, that another professional makes a lot more than you do.

If we are going to put a cap on doctors earnings let's do it for everone according to their roll in society.

Nurses, Cops, Firefighters should get healthy pay raises while office workers should be at minimum wage.

and here we have an issue with a stance by obama that isnt getting the coverage it should
was the proposed cuts in medicare like close to 600 million..or is it billion.......these days its hard to know if they are talking millions or billions isnt it??

cap on salaries...
yes siree bob..
.
thats a real good thing isnt it?

what was that about socialism again?

You have got to be the most stupis shit I have ever seen,

Why don't you drop your insurance to prove your loyality to the program?

AH

"You have got to be the most stupis(sic) shit I have ever seen,"

Needs a mirror.

Needs a mirror.

Chickenchoker?

Meh, he may be "stupis" but he sure shows a lot of "loyality" to his many lost causes.

^_^

Be Well.

What the fat flying fuck do I give a rat shit ass about what obamas doctor thinks? I care that the current president is no better than the last schmuck, but can talk.

I don't agree with Danni about everything, but on healthcare we are certainly within the same ballpark.

The feds are doing such a great job with medicare and the VA. Oh, did I mention the great job they are doing with the postal system?

I wonder if this doctor has ever had to live off of a Government program.... Being a military family and my dad is currently retired my mom, dad and youngest brother is still on the military's healthcare plan... and honestly, I wouldn't wish it for my worst enemy...

Yes, health care is a right... but the government doesn't have the greatest track record when it comes to taking care of peoples health...
