Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor has resigned from Belizean Grove, an elite all-women's club patterned after Bohemian Grove, after Republicans questioned her participation in it. Sotomayor said in a letter to two senators she believed membership did not violate judicial ethics, but quit so that it wouldn't "distract anyone from my qualifications and record."

Ken Starr supports her.
I really have no idea wha to think of that.

AND AGAIN

one little snippit from the AFKABL2 news WIRE and here we are again...

I just wish I got paid for all this research......

It's a good thing she resigned from that organization so we can look at her record of being admitted to law school as an unqualified affirmative action candidate, being over turned 60% of the time and being unable to write a coherent legal opinion.

After thinking about it a while, I think it was wrong for Sotomayor to belong to this group, given the judicial code of ethics regarding such groups. She should have known the history of Anthony Kennedy quitting an all-male club before he joined the Supreme Court. She's been on the track towards potential Supreme Court service for more than a decade.

I can understand the politics of her defending her membership as proper, but ultimately, she should have quit as Kennedy was expected to quit.

Colbert had a good riff on this. Wondered when the all-male Republican Judiciary Ctee was going to resign.

She quits an all-female group in order to join one of the oldest Men's Clubs in the Nation?

Two females have served on the Court in it's 218 year history (and only so recently that they STILL are serving) and we're not supposed to think of it as a men's club?

The mock outrage from the right is amusing.

The Go-Go's will never be the same again.

GoGos? Spud thought she used to play bass fer L7.

/Damn yer eyes fer getting to the joke first!!
//FF fer that effort, btw.

On Topic?

Sotomayor was right to quit this group.

A SCotUS member should not only avoid impropriety but also even the appearance of impropriety.

Particularily if she's a woman and a minority and has to be confirmed by both Dems and sexist/racist Rethugs.

Be Well.

Surprise. She's not a racist, she's a sexist - I mean feminist.

Do you think if the firefighters who passed the test were women she would have voted to throw out the test and deny the promotions?

Au contraire, mon amie!

"She told senators that the group involves men in some of its events [especially the Bootlicking Ceremony] and no man she knows of has ever tried to become a member.
"Sotomayor's backers noted that the court's only current female justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, belongs to the International Women's Forum, as was former Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, who defended her involvement in all-women's groups during her Senate confirmation hearings.

Just as Ginsburg defended all female colleges as she wrote the opinion that VMI could not restrict admission to males only.

Resigning from the club doesn't change her attitude or conviction that women deserve privileges that are denied to men. But the ObamaMamas wouldn't have it any other way.

Particularily if she's a woman and a minority and has to be confirmed by both Dems and sexist/racist Rethugs.
* * * *

From her writings, it sounds like the biggest sexist/racist in the room will be Sotomayor herself.

Sure. Which is why Clarence Thomas -- who's incompetent besides -- could never be confirmed.

Political correctness run amoke, again.

"Political correctness run amoke, again."

Served with a big helping of hypocrisy from rtards, as usual.

#8 - Spud your post was going fine until the idiot stuff at the end about racist/sexist "rethugs." You were actually making a good point. Why suddenly dip into the muck?

I think she made a good move in belonging to the club. In her line of work she undoubtedly needed all the support, moral and otherwise, she could get. And I think she made a good move in resigning. Her objective in her career has been achieved.
