The IRS is considering changes that would make it possible to begin taxing employeees' treat personal use of a work cell phone as benefit income. The IRS requires companies to treat personal use of a work cell phone as benefit income, but for the two decades the rule has been in place, it has been largely ignored.

IRS requires companies to treat personal use of a work cell phone as benefit income that can be taxed.

.....holy shit.....

....you mean when I call the "Cheating Housewives Chat-Line" on the company dime, I should be taxed ?.......Uncle Sam....please.......

If you drive a company car for personal use you get taxed on it. How is this any different?

Quick, righties! Have another "tea party"! Throw all your crackberries into Boston Harbor....

go ahead and tax it.

I'll bet my company pays about $60 to $80 a month for my phone.

50% of that for personal use would amount to about $15/mo in tax.

whatever.

WRONG

it has to be wrong because OBAMA said so....

and I cant believe that any of you would think that DEMS would come up with ONE MORE way to fuck us out of our money...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOO

hey thats pretty funny..

I have a better idea...why dont we throw you into boston harbor.........can you swim????

Tell you what you can tax my personal use of my work cell phone, and since I will have to take the time to figure out how much that is I will also take the time to figure out how much my haircuts for work are, my work clothes are, my milleage that is not reimbursed is, my gifts to clients are. Heck when I send one a get well card I will deduct that too. We'll see who comes out ahead. My 40 a month in cell phone useage or my legitimate business expenses that I don't bother deducting becuase I'm too lazy.

I think President Obama already told the IRS to forget about this.

hasnt this been on the books for awhile anyway but they had so much trouble with keeping records of it.
and DANNI..it doesnt matter what he said before or even in the future...IF he needs it, it will happen.

The IRS is now re-thinking this and may not go forward with it. It is a different age than the Zach Morrise cell phone days and it is really hard to crack down on this. Plus, all this would do is hurt cell phone companies. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

climate change tax ideas for the dems, tax on how high you set your thermostst for heat or ac,how many times you BBQ a month, how many times you use your gas lawn mower or weed eater, take your boat out, miles you drive.how old your car is and how high you set your water heater,it will be like they died and went to tax heaven.

I cant believe that any of you would think that DEMS would come up with ONE MORE way to fuck us out of our money...

Hey dummy, this was enacted in 1989. Who was POTUS then?

post 9 I believe tells you that I already knew that.
but thanks for playing

All of Barry's stupid ideas will just increase the number of people ignoring the IRS and will ultimately decrease Federal tax revenues.

We need tax cuts, particularlt capital gains tax cuts to zero for a year. That will help to stimulate the economy not the stupid dem porkulous bills.

FWTHOM

AMEN BRO

it seemed that jfk had that same idea but then he was a democrat of my youth and not one of the "community organizers' are the SOROS dems of today...

and I go back once again...take that TARP money and give us all the several thousand that it will cost us and put it in a credit card to walmart and costco and GM for that matter.
the economy could very well be already back UP to
BUSH ERA LEVELS........(hee hee, I love writing that)..........

Too bad the BUSH ERA LEVELS were provided by CLINTON. Bush got us into our present mess where the only alternative was to bail out banks with billions. Thanks TO BUSH---and his ZOMBIE followers like AFKABABBLE.

Aren't they forgetting the computers they make us work on? What about the furniture, doors, and carpeting?

I can't imagine what "personal use" you make of the furniture, door, and carpeting. Though, now that I think about it, it might explain the rug burns...

I gave back my company cell phone. I hated paying the overages.

Aflac, your alzheimers is showing.

TARP was a Bush program.

"take that TARP money and give us all the several thousand that it will cost us and put it in a credit card to walmart and costco and GM for that matter."

You mean the part of it which has already been paid back with interest???

tax collectors have been scum since the dawn of civilization.

hahah

cant deny that this isnt a big perk. I havnt met a person that got this that didnt gloat over the fact that their company covers their cell phone and internet service.
while it does allow company e-mails to circulate 24/7, which is great for business, you can guarantee that 95% of the usage of that blackberry is not business related.

Hey it's coming as well as a tax on using company toilet paper. Hell that would have to be personal use as nobody wants it after your done with it. Especially that 3 or 4 sheets that stuck to your shoe as you was trying to exit the bathroom.

Do you use the furniture for personal use? Take the doors home on the weekend for your remodeling projects?

This is a great fucking idea. The tax code is not nearly complicated enough yet. Before too long, it will get so screwy the government won't understand it either.

What part of "this has been in place since 1989" doesn't anyone understand?

"What part of "this has been in place since 1989" doesn't anyone understand?"

Just shows you how fucked up the tax code is. There are probably numerous provisions that will soon be enforeced and sound like new code.

What part of "this has been in place since 1989" doesn't anyone understand?

The part where Democrats can't complain because Clinton kept it and Republicans cannot complain because Bush kept it and the partisans are not sure whom to blame.

The IRS picks on cell phones and personal use of vehicles because they are picking on little people wh will have trouble fighting back. That is fighting them will be more trouble than its worth, whether its right or wrong.

Meanwhile, through a system of legalized bribery, fatcats dodge each and every tax by paying Congressmen to write personal exceptions for them, which they insert in vital funding bills. Treasury can't keep up with this shit and don't even try.

Every thought of maybe asking them to JUST SPEND LESS and let EVERYONE keep more of what they earn? That too hard for you?

Welcome to the next edition of the Obama Nanny state..

The old Beatles tune (done later and better by blues great Stevie Ray Vaughn) Tax Man.. applies..

"If you drive a car, I'll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat.
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet.

Don't ask me what I want it for
If you don't want to pay some more
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman"

Obama.. super nanny.. don't complain libs.. you voted for this clown.

How about regulation on cell phone charges so they cost as much as land lines do. Cell phone companies are impossibly corrupt.

How about regulation on cell phone charges so they cost as much as land lines do.

They are not even remotely comparable products.

The ability to make and receive phone calls from anywhere vs. the ability make and receive phone calls from a 20-foot radius of your house (assuming one has a cordless phone).

No comparison.

Like a glass bottle isn't the same as a plastic one? Riiiight.

Technology will always evolve, the costs involved are irresponsibly doled out by greedy corporate interests. Fees are irreconcilable with the technology costs. Cellular phones should be considered the main mode of communications for %100 population now and should be regulated.
