It just keeps spreading.

A neighbor 42 years old was admitted to the hospital this morning with a 104 fever and massive head pain. Confirmed H1N1.

But everything is "okay" from the government and media.

this was bound to happen when it developed in the southern hemisphere - the true test will come in october/november.

Next step...martial law.

"Next step...martial law."

Can we hold you to that?

What are you going to do when it doesn't happen?

Notice that shark tank has not said when martial law will be declared?

Kind of like all the other great pontificators on this site that offer bold predictions with no timelines.

Timelines lead to error. If I borrow $1000 and say I will pay you back on Saturday, but don't, then I lied. If I borrow $1000 and say I will pay you back, but not when, 50 years from now I still have not lied.

Exactly.

They are full of shit.

I wouldn't say "full of shit" so much as "experts in the art of spin" because technically, without a time line, it isn't a lie.

THE SKY IS FALLING!!!

"THE SKY IS FALLING!!!"

Only to the media and those who only get their information from the media.

High fevers are your body's way of fighting flu. Supressing a fever makes no sense. People who die from flu have weak immune systems because they are old or have other complications.

Stay in bed and drink plenty of fluids. When you wake up in familiar surroundings you probably lived through it.

High fevers are your body's way of fighting flu. Supressing a fever makes no sense.

Within reason. Some pathogens (usually the ones to which we are naive) can also ramp up our immune responses to points where our own defenses become problematic.

Pandemic flu strains, highly pathogenic A/H5N1 viruses, hantaviruses... your immune system plays a big part in making the diseases these bugs cause so severe.

People who die from flu have weak immune systems because they are old or have other complications.

That is the case with most flu strains. The ones with weak immune systems and other health issues can get bacterial infections that end up killing them. MRSA pneumonia. Nasty shit. This strain of flu is somewhat odd since a larger-than-usual number of the people who have died were otherwise fairly healthy, and healthy people tend to suffer from more severe disease.

"This strain of flu is somewhat odd since a larger-than-usual number of the people who have died were otherwise fairly healthy, and healthy people tend to suffer from more severe disease."

Pandemic influenza viruses tend to behave similarly to SARS-it's the actual immune response that kills you, not the infection. Through a process called cytokine storm, a person eventually ends up drowning in their own fluids.

Pleseant stuff.

Damn, I forgot about SARS. Wasn't there a song about that...?

Ya'll know me still the same ol' G
But I been low key
Hated on by most these doctas
Wit no scrubs, no 'scrips and no masks, small wheels and a fat ass
No coats, no tamiflu and weak knees
Mad at me cause
I can outcompete all the STD's
Got a cell infected in your respiratory tract
To add to some plates that are full of plaques
Stacked up in the incubator like trophies
But ya'll think my genome's gonna freeze
Go sneeze

You better bow down on both knees
Who you think shrugs off your IgE
Who you think came with a cough on the breeze
Viral quasispecies and immunopathology
And a gene that said muthafuck immunity
Gave you a blast of some virokines
To fuck you up when you dine on swine
And when your O2 sats aren't doin too good
Who's the doc that he told you to go see
Ya'll better listen up closely
All you niggas that said that the infections stopped
Or the death rate dropped
ya'll are the reason SARS ain't been getting no sleep
So fuck ya'll all of ya'll
If ya'll don't like me blow me
Ya'll are gonna keep fuckin around wit me
And turn me back to the old me

Nowadays everybody wanna cough like they got something to spray
But nothin comes out when they move they lips
Just a million progeny
And muthafuckas act like they forgot about SARS

Yes. It's just atrocious. What 50 people out of 6 billion.

Thank goodness for airbags. No one died on any highways today.
