These may be dark days for the Republican Party, but a top GOP congressional leader predicted today that Republicans would trounce Democrats in the 2010 midterm elections and could take back control of the House of Representatives.

Mr. Cantor,

The Republican Party had the opportunity to be the Checks and Balances during the first 6 years of the Bush Administration and during the waning years of the Clinton Administration.

In once instance, the Republican Party when ape shit over a blow job and the subsequent lie about the blow job. Then, when a Republican was elected President, they became rubber stamps.

I don't just blame the Republicans, though. The Democrats allowed themselves to be bullied into going along with most of the policy because they're spineless pussies.

So, Mr. Cantor. Take your prediction and shove it. I've had enough of your brand of Checking and Balancing.

Sincerely,

A Disenfranchised Voter.

The Dems have blown it and Obama will not see the positive numbers he wants by 2010. It will all be worse unfortunately.

Whether any of this translates to Repub wins at election time remains to be seen.

I think Cantor may be right. American voters aren't too comfortable with one party having too much power. If repubs can clean up their act and come forward with ideas to get the U.S. out of Iraq and other ways to reduce spending, then they may have a chance. However, if they hang their hat on tax breaks for the rich, they won't win in this economy.

This could be 1994-2000 all over again.

Eric Cantor is one of those publicity hounds, or is rapidly becoming one who, a bit like Newt Gingrich, deludes himself into thinking that he actually is saying something of interest. Only people like Murphy will be impressed.

"The Dems have blown it" - Murphy you are getting more stupid by the minute and have zero political knowledge or even political memory.

"a top GOP congressional leader predicted today that Republicans would trounce Democrats in the 2010 midterm elections and could take back control of the House of Representatives."

I'll take that bet.

It's simply too early to tell but the state they're in now you'd have to be surprised if they pick up or lose more than about five Representatives and one Senator. They're basically a regional party from the South augmented by more rural states where the social issues they run on won't be counterbalanced by an urban or even a suburban vote where it's been figured out that the tax cuts they endlessly parrot benefit others much more than them.

Landslides like Cantor is predicting happen when parties have broad support. Republicans don't have that and won't get it back in as short a time as eighteen months.

This is news?

A GOPer says that the GOP will do well in 2010? What do you expect them to say - "stay tuned for our death rattle?" or something?

Most indicators show the economy has already hit bottom and will soon start a slow recovery.

That will be a powerful and persuasive trend for the incumbents when they claim credit.

Fuck you Chink lover.

What do you expect them to say?

I, for one, am still waiting for them to rejoin the reality-based community.

Comments like Mr. Cantor's show they aren't ready, yet.

No. 2 GOPiggie in the House predicts good things for the Party of No?

Wow, this really is news. Say it loud! Say it proud, Mr. Cantor!

Where IS that Moment of Clarity Award??

Where IS that Moment of Clarity Award??

Right where you left it last night after all those Mojitos. Hope you don't have any major internal damage when they try to pull it out.

lmao..... the peanut gallery gets all toasty when the obvious becomes undeniable, even to their own.

I predict that the Republic's will gain 17 House seat while losing 1 Senate seat.

Where IS that Moment of Clarity Award??

Funny stuff, Cork!

You think that because you are a blind partisan hack, then everyone else is. (Time for you to have a moment of clarity)

I am interested only in the truth, and the truth is that a recovering economy will benefit incumbents. It always does.

The incumbents at the moment happen to be Democrats.

I just thought maybe someone gave you a new calculator there, Verm.

And PA is in play and Murtha lost right?

When are you going to realize that you are full of shit? So full of shit that it is oozing out of your neck and replacing your fucking head.

Go mop the fucking floor. You suck at this game woman.

I predict a good year for the GOP in 2010 if they don't totally screw it up before then, like they are doing now.

I hope not. They need at least 8 years in the wilderness to realize they need to change their shit. At the very least.

Who?

Like Vern says-the economy is crawling back, and the NOP is down by 10 in generic congressional polling. Voters ain't, as the NOPpers seem to be whining about, expecting any economic miracles any time soon.
Any improvement will help the Dems and hurt the Party of No.

#1 -Congrats to Axiom for being #1. Number One Hammerhead, that is. You know, you actually had the stub of an argument there but then you just couldn't resist bringing up the old BJ to justify a President committing PERJURY.

Next time take some Ritalin and try to stay focused. Then maybe people might be swayed by your little scratchings.

I think many more Americans want real health care reform and see the Republicans as the one's who are blocking it. I think they also identify the Republicans as the culprits for the recession and the losses most home owners have felt in their home equity. I doubt they will gain very many seats in either house and I think Cantor himself is a complete asshole. Can't stand to even look at him.

I hope not. They need at least 8 years in the wilderness to realize they need to change their shit. At the very least.

8? How 'bout 40?

Cantor may be right. The GOP may slide right into the ocean and get washed away in the tide of irrelevance.

The pendulum doesn't swing THAT fast. Nice try though.
