In a vote that might have been after adjournment, two Democrats voted with all of the Republicans for the leadership in the New York State Senate, a move that would transfer control back to the Republicans.

I don't think they tried, I think they did.

(With the help of two crooked Democrats no less).

Fucking kids need a spanking.

Wot?

Wow! I guess the Repubs have learned something from the masters of corruption (aka, Dembastards).

So they went Joementum and Spector? I expect we'll hear a lot of the righties here demanding they resign because they no longer represent the people who elected them.

Nope.

A couple of reaql peaches. Thye sould fit right in with the NOP:
Why Mr. Espada and Mr. Monserrate suddenly defected on Monday afternoon was not immediately clear. Both men are under investigation by the authorities. The state attorney general's office is investigating a health care agency, Soundview HealthCare Network, that Mr. Espada ran until recently. And Mr. Monserrate, who was indicted on felony assault charges in March stemming from an attack on his companion, would automatically be thrown out of office if convicted.

Apparently the fact that they are Democrats, and were Democrats when they were engaged in alleged illegal activity, escapes a dumbfuck like you.

I'd like to say that's surprising, but it's par for the course where a dumbass like you is concerned.

Ha! You can have Arlen Specter, we'll keep the two Mexicans. Shutting off the lights and killing the internet feed to the chamber -- what a thoroughly Stalinist maneuver by the Dems.

To the poster that put this at the top of the article:

"Wow.. interesting story.. I thought everyone was becoming a democrat? In blue state New York the Republicans take over the Senate.."

I guess you don't read your own stories very well.

"....sudden reversal of fortunes for the Democratic Party, which controlled the chamber for barely five months."

Fuck'em, let them go.

Shutting off the lights and killing the internet feed to the chamber -- what a thoroughly Stalinist maneuver by the Dems.

It was OK when Congressional republicans did it to the Democrats, but when state lawmakers do it , it's suddenly 'Stalinist'?

Such dramatics!

BTW, I don't think turning off lights or web access is tantamount to the what Stalin did, but hey, that wouldn't help your tard rant any, now would it?

"Senator Thomas W. Libous, a Republican from Binghamton and the party's deputy leader, shouted for a roll-call vote, while Democrats attempted to stall the vote by asking to adjourn the session.

All 30 Republicans stood with their hands raised, signaling a vote for a change in leadership. Mr. Espada and Mr. Monserrate joined them, each raising his hand. Republicans won the vote by a 32-to-30 margin."

then:

"He [Smith] insisted the vote was illegal because it had taken place after the session had already been adjourned."

So was the session adjourned or not? The reporters couldn't delve that deep or what?

The varnish is starting to peel on everything democrat.

"Shutting off the lights and killing the internet feed to the chamber -- what a thoroughly Stalinist maneuver by the Dems."

Not Stalinist -- Just VERY childish and mean spirited. (sort of like removing the 'Ws' from keyboards).

Repubs pull a Coupe de Ville.

Remember a couple of years ago when the Democrats in the Texas legislature all packed up their playtoys and left the state so a quorum couldn't be called? I wouldn't give you much more for your average Republican than I would for your average Democrat, but it seems the Democrats set the standard for child-like behaviour.

I don't know about that, Valis. Newt Gingrich shut down the federal gov't when he didn't get his favorite seat on Air Force One.

They must think we all still care about the whole Democrat / Republican business.

I wonder if the career politicians will be the last ones in America to notice that - THE PEOPLE DON'T GIVE A DAMN WHAT YOU CALL YOURSELVES !!

You're a career politicians first - your constituents fall somewhere in line behind that.

I tend to think that's wishful thinking.
I am of the belief that the team-sports aspect of our political system gets stronger every year...just look at the posts above.
If our system of gummit ever ceased to promote the feud that divides and distracts us, business as usual would come to a grinding halt.
Now seriously, what politician would ever want that?
Perhaps we can restructure and reunite after our eminent fall.

They DID take it over. In spite of some babies who turned off the lights and cut the access to the Internet. Those same babies are threatening legal action. If they do, I wonder if they will include the recent defectors to the Democrat party. No? Didn't think so - playing fair was never a liberal's strength.

playing fair was never a liberal's strength.

Last year when the RNC was begging money I took the time to send their envelope back with just a note.

When you find some conservatives to run maybe I'll find some money.

There is no difference between the 2 parties. Hasn't been in decades.

Sensenbrenner (R) kept trying to gavel the hearing to a close, but Democrats again pointed to the rules, which said they had a certain amount of time to examine their witnesses. When they refused to stop the proceedings, the chairman did something unprecedented: He simply picked up his gavel and walked out.

"He was like a kid at the playground," the staffer says. And just in case anyone missed the point, Sensenbrenner shut off the lights and cut the microphones on his way out of the room.

For similarly petulant moves by a committee chair, one need look no further than the Ways and Means Committee, where Rep. Bill Thomas -- a pugnacious Californian with an enviable ego who was caught having an affair with a pharmaceutical lobbyist -- enjoys a reputation rivaling that of the rotund Sensenbrenner. The lowlight of his reign took place just before midnight on July 17th, 2003, when Thomas dumped a "substitute" pension bill on Democrats -- one that they had never read -- and informed them they would be voting on it the next morning. Infuriated, Democrats stalled by demanding that the bill be read out line by line while they recessed to a side room to confer. But Thomas wanted to move forward -- so he called the Capitol police to evict the Democrats.

So, It wasn't the Dems doing it first.....it was simply payback for all the shit the repubs did while in power.

Karma is a bitch.

.....and let's noT forget, THESE WERE REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMAN DOING THIS, NOT LOCAL NY LAWMAKERS.

There's a lot of irony in this statement.
