More properly that is a picture of Aretha Franklin on the occasion of the swearing in ceremony of one Barack H Obama back in January.

Yes, the hat was silly but the moment was soulful.

When Spud first came to the Retort there was that awful picture of Micheal Dukakis in a tank grinnign like a lobotomised idiot after doning a bottle of Nyquil.

That pictoral byte was effective in making sure the Dukakis/Feraro campaign wasn't so effective.

Spud called it the "Dem Doldrum" pic.

Next we had a picture of Dumbya taking part in the infamous fake photo Op on the flight deck of battle cruiser with the Mission Accomplished banner in the background and a rolled up tube sock in Bush flight suit in the foreground.

Spud simply called that one "Bushit"

The new one with Aretha is Spud's favoritest of the lot.

Then Rogers Cadenhead aka Rcade aka the blog-god aka "more of a pope, really" along with his partner in cybercrime (well, pranks really) Jonathon Bourne (who, incidentally, looks nothing like Matt Damon) a well known teevee writer guy, started the Retort in an attempt to counter balance the righty leaning Drudge Report with a lefty leaning parody site one which specialised in the same type of news that FOX eventually made it big with.

Which is to say they just made shit up.

Eventually true life became stranger than even their fiction could compete with and real news stories were soon the order of the day and other people were encouraged to sound off about the events of the day with pithy (or pissy) little comments.
