With unemployment at its highest level in decades, a book I just finished "The Worst Hard Time" by Timothy Egan gives perhaps a little perspective. Read a review of it here www.bookreviewsforregularpeopl e.com

We are facing some economic difficulties, they're real and for many people, very painful.. but.. it could be a lot worse. About 90% of us are working, most of us are paying our mortgages, and the biggest problems Americans have are still problems of affluence.. ie too much food, etc. Read Egan's book for some perspective of what a real hard time in the United States is all about.

I should have noted that the book is about the Dust Bowl of the 30's... sorry..

What other explanation supports the lack of a radio transmission?

thank god we had FDR to fix things. Could you imagine what it would have been like if Hoover was running America? The dust bowl would have made auschwitz's cemetary look like Wonderland.

About a year after the the 1929 crash, the stock market rebounded near 50% and Hoover thought it was all over. Lesson: This country has impossible levels of debt, way over the levels in 1929. Until they clear, it will get worse.

Ah the myths they teach in government schools. Double digit unemployment existed through Roosevelt's terms until he sent the unemployed to war. High taxes. Over-regulate. Drive prices and wages up. Spend spend spend. Expand government. Change rules by the week. Create uncertainty. That was Roosevelt's MO - and Obama's. What a fucking disaster awaits us.
