ANOTHER ANNOUNCEMENT

FROM THE AP

OBAMA NOW CONSIDERING TAX ON HEALTH BENEFITS..

so wasnt this a PROBLEM WHEN MCCAIN SAID THE SAME FUCKIN THING NOT All that long ago.

you know I wouldnt want to think that obama was a FUCKIN LIAR or anything like that

"Mancur Olson, an American economist, speculated that small distributional coalitions tend to form over time in developed nations and influence policies in their favor through intensive, well funded lobbying. The policies result in benefits for the coalitions and its members at large costs borne by the rest of population. Over time, the incentive structure means that more distributional coalitions accumulate burdening and ultimately paralysing the economic system causing inevitable and irretrievable economic decline".

The Centre of Public Integrity reported that the expenditure on lobbying and political contribution of the top 25 sub-prime mortgage originators, most linked to large U.S. banks, was around $380 million.

The institutional bias of the Fed is obvious in every decision they make. Consider the fact that the Fed has provided over $12.8 trillion in loans and other commitments to shore up wobbly financial institutions while the two-year fiscal stimulus for 320 million Americans is $787 billion. It's goose liver and Cabernet for the bank mandarins and breadcrumbs for the working stiff. Unlike General Motors--where bondholders and workers sustained huge losses and were forced to dramatically slash the size of their business---the banks and brokerage houses have been given carte blanche and are free to use their loans any way they choose, including commodities speculation which has driven the price of oil from $33.98 per barrel on Feb 12 to more than $68 per bbl. today.

The taxpayer is literally paying for the rope to hang himself. And Wall Street is only too happy to oblige.

For $10 trillion, Bernanke could have guaranteed every mortgage in the country, thereby stopping the decline in housing prices, the deluge of foreclosures, and the deep cutbacks in consumer spending. Such a move would have defrosted the secondary market (where mortgage-backed securities (MBS) are traded) because investors would know that the collateral was backed by "the full faith and credit" of the US government. Instead, millions of homeowners have been forced from their homes and onto the streets while Wall Street kingpins debate whether they should be allowed to issue themselves fat bonuses from the TARP funds.

The better question is: how do you go through life and supermarket checkout lines without hearing about celebrities you don't give a shit about?

8roper - This is a great example of when the Death penalty is appropriate

In this guy's case its not so much about penalty. More like exterminating the filthy fuck. I'm not for torture at all but if this guy was tortured I wouldn't care ONE BIT. Lethal injection is far too compassionate.

Thank you for offering that viewpoint.

I have often described on DR that I am against the death penalty- but I am actually VERY MUCH in favor of torture of the major serial repaist killer types.

On many occasions I have lobbied to get agreement that instead of the extermination of life, (which i feel is the most profoundly abominable act conceivable), we should have penalty laws that allow the victim ( if alive) or family of the victim, to take ownership of the person who comitted the crime.
To be kept as a piece of property by the victim/victim's family ....to be used in any such manner the owner chooses. Torture, slavery, deviant sex, you name it.
The point of this being- I feel ultimately that humans are not the arbiters of who gets to live or die, yet i still feel the perpetrator should suffer intensely and the victim/victim's family needs retribution. Thus the sollution I am lobbying for.

Anyone watching Minnesota? Pawlenty deciding not to run again...maybe running for Senate or the GoP nod for the White House. And now everyone and their mama are running for Governor.

didnt they say something similar to banks when some wanted to get out from under government hold because it might hurt the others???? similiar anway>??

How come so many of us black people love to eat at Macdonald's?

You remember when a Macdonald's TV commercial used to consist of Ronald the clown dancin around and having little sing-songs with Grimmace and Mayor MacCheese?

You see how in the last few years ALL of the Macdonalds commercials have changed to hip hop music and a bunch of brothers shooting hoops and popping Macdonalds in they mouth?

And I will take action (in limited ways citizens like me can take action). Giving us the choice (which I thought was cool), then taxing us on benefits if we don't take the government stuff. That's not choice.

Hey, Mike--why the random public education crack? Oh, private education grads all spell perfectly? Doubt it. I challenge all anti-public ed folks here to start a real thread on education and have a real discussion, using, oh, facts and research. And to look beyond blaming schools and teachers. But that's where the debate could begin.

During the media's latest attempt to show they are not biased towards Obama, Brian Williams gave this report:

The interview, which made news when an excerpt was aired, is part of a prime-time series -- "Inside the Obama White House," airing tomorrow and Wednesday -- that so far has produced 150 hours of tape. A tired-sounding Williams, who covered the Clinton White House and was an intern in the Carter White House, was delighted at the level of access, which continues with more interviews tomorrow.

"There's stuff we've never seen of how the White House operates," he says. "We were pretty stunned at how much we were able to record and how natural events seemed to be."

He recalls "walking through the West Wing and Secretary Clinton drops by to see the president. To be in the hallway when the president walks by with a handful of M&Ms, popping them in his mouth as he goes to visit his chief of staff -- it was unbelievable

And there you have it folks...Brian Williams stunned and amazed how Obama ate M&M's. Nope, no media bias here.

Did that quivering queef American Unity finally go? The tears were piling up so heavy that animals started lining up two by two.

Okay, Wisgod--thanks for the link.

The key quote in the first half is "Now that Mr. Obama has begun the health debate, several advisers say that while he will not propose changing the tax-free status of employee health benefits, neither will he oppose it if Congress does so."

Hm. So he's playing the middle as seems to be his MO. Yes, I'm angry that another thing that he took a definitive stance on appears to be something that is mutable. NOT cool. Of course, one could reasonable argue that campaign rhetoric is just that--rhetoric--and that once you get in, the realities of political life dictate differences. If we were to hold every candidate responsible for following up exactly on campaign promises, no one would ever get re-elected. But that sounds like I'm mounting a defense. I'm not; I'm talking about the overall reality of politics, which some people are too idealistic (or entrenched) to recognize. Lest we forget, President Bush hardly lived up to his every promise either.

But more to the point, there needs to be serious conversation about this. As I think about it, I'm not sure. I think it's bullshit at first glance--why pay more taxes than I pay? But then... If my employer is providing some portion of insurance premiums as part of my compensation package, one can surely argue, logically, that that's income. (Uh oh, those farther left than I are gonna pillory me. There goes my lib cred.) But even if I grant that possibility, the language worries me. What does "health care benefits" mean? My little experiment above would consider as benefits the portion of my _premium_ that my employer pays. And I could understand that theory. I couldn't understand a theory that had the cost of the services taxed, which is not what I think they're talking about.

I'll be watching this one. As someone who believes we should all be covered, well, I can see there needing to be money to cover it. But my taxes going up? Hm. I could also let this lead me back to the idea of national health care, expansion of the Medicare/Medicaid program, and the abolition of employer-provided insurance (or rather insurance partly or largely paid for by employers, given that full coverage as part of your compensation is pretty rare).

Here, I'll repost your post for you.

Imagine if Unemployment Insurance was paid for by your employer so that, in the event you lose your jose, you have money to look forward to.

Oh, wait. Your employer does pay for this insurance.

You should have to pay tax on that income because the insurance is a fringe benefit. It's forced upon the employer of the employee. Of course, the self-employed are screwed when it comes to Unemployment Insurance.

One thing to remember. Don't ever tell the Unemployment office that you decided to try it as a self-employed person. Your benefits will end that moment your foot entered your mouth.

The one thing I'd like clarified is "Is it acceptable to have multiple logins and using them anytime one wishes?"

I'm at my friend's, so this isn't my browser LOL

You're anything but and proud of it, so I'll join the rest of the people who can't stand your asshole act and call it a day for now.

You didn't chase me off. Don't flatter yourselves. I wouldn't cross the street to hang around you IRL and asked myself why I would here with a handful of obnoxious lowlifes everyone wants to get away from in the bar IRL. So how many peope did he kill while in prison and how many of the people he killed before he was arrested rose from the dead?

And I'm surprised you're upset about some guy exercising his second amendment right, aflac. You're going soft.

June 3 (Bloomberg) -- Microsoft Corp. Chief Executive Officer Steven Ballmer said the world's largest software company would move some employees offshore if Congress enacts President Barack Obama's plans to impose higher taxes on U.S. companies' foreign profits.

"It makes U.S. jobs more expensive," Ballmer said in an interview. "We're better off taking lots of people and moving them out of the U.S. as opposed to keeping them inside the U.S."

Obama on May 4 proposed outlawing or restricting about $190 billion in tax breaks for offshore companies over the next decade. Such business groups as the National Foreign Trade Council, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Business Roundtable have denounced the proposed overhaul.

U.S. tax rules let companies defer paying corporate rates as high as 35 percent on most types of foreign profits as long as that money remains invested overseas. Obama says he wants to end such incentives to keep foreign profits tax-deferred so that companies would invest them in the U.S.

Microsoft reported an overall effective tax rate of 26 percent for 2008 in its last annual report. "Our effective tax rates are less than the statutory tax rate due to foreign earnings taxed at lower rates," the report said.

Barry Bosworth, an economist in Washington at the Brookings Institution research center, said many software companies such as Microsoft have exploited tax and trade rules in the U.S. and other countries to achieve a low overall tax rate.

thats what SHE said

The Roman historian Livy famously described the terminal plight of the late Roman Republic: "Nec vitia nostra nec remedia pati possumus" ("We can bear neither our shortcomings nor the remedies for them")
In other words, like Rome, our nation is not strong enough to support the massive debt our ever-expanding obligations impose on us, nor courageous or wise enough to confront them
In 2012, federal debt will be more than $15 trillion. Annual interest probably will be between $1 trillion and $1.7 trillion -- depending on whether long bonds remain at about 3.5 percent or go to recent historic rates (6 to 7 percent). Deficits will average about $1 trillion a year -- $22 trillion by 2019. Yearly interest payments then will be more than $2 trillion. That's the good news.
That assumes the world will continue to buy our Treasury notes at plausible rates. We had a slight foretaste of the future last week, when 10-year U.S. Treasury bond yields shot up 60 basis points on soft demand and a Standard & Poor's warning of a possible ratings downgrade of British bonds. The bond market may well rebel ultimately against our government's excessive borrowing and spending (insufficiently supported by adequate national economic strength).

The "good news" of only $22 trillion in debt supported by purchasable bonds also assumes that our economy will recover this year and that we then will have continued steady economic growth. Of course, the more the government borrows the less will be available for the private sector (the part of the economy that produces things). And the less available borrowing there is for investment and consumption in the economy the slower the economy will grow -- if it grows at all.

But the not-so-good news on top of this astounding and growing indebtedness is that we will have to borrow even vastly more than the current budgets propose. Starting in 2017 (just eight years from now), the Medicare trust fund will be depleted. We then will begin to experience a Medicare revenue shortfall that ultimately will total between $35 trillion and $40 trillion during the following 60 years. Social Security's depletion will begin 20 years later and will have a shortfall of a little less than $10 trillion during the same period.

...

Not only does continued, increased government borrowing ever more sap our economy but also, as the baby boomers retire, we will move from the recent statistic of four workers for each retiree to two workers for each retiree. That means a weaker economy, as this smaller work force will not produce enough to support all of government's costs -- even with massive and persistent tax increases. And if, as seems possible, sometime in the next decade the world resists lending our government sufficient money (because our economy will be too small to produce enough to pay the ever-growing interest on the debt), then we finally will be forced to make choices of what to buy and what to forgo. Maybe only subsidized pain pills rather than medical treatment for old people? Only 50 percent payment of Social Security benefits? Default on federal debt payments? Or what the Chinese already are worried about: monetizing the debt, leading to hyperinflation?

I'm thinking about going to the local Chevy New Car lot, and treating myself a set of tires and rims that are rightfully mine.

Since the federal government owns 60% of GM doesn't it stand to reason the General Public should only be charged 40% of the sticker price of a new GM Car or Truck?? After all we own 60% outright when a customer comes to the carlot.

Since there are 200,000,000 "owners" (taxpayers) of GM, yes it makes sense that you get 1/200,000,000 x 60% of the sticker price of a car.

So tell you car dealer to take a penny (rounding up) off the price of a new $24,000 car

Larry, don't worry. I'm sure all of us will receive a voucher good towards a purchase shortly ( of course, paid for by us). You are more than welcomed to mine if you are allowed to double dip.

Crisis

Ah, we await the await the appointment of a "pay czar" by the Marxist administration that is in power in the United States. A local radio host (Lonsberry www.lonsberry.com) noted this and observed that totalitarian regimes have repeatedly under some pretext or other, killed hundreds of millions of people subject to them (Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot), and the person from whom the word is derived, the Russian Czar or Tsar, was a tyrant.

Why a pay czar? Well, the current regime has vilified executives. The regime wants to remove free market constraints and this is the first group to be targeted. Who is next?

The rationale for control of compensation of these executives is that they work for publicly traded companies. The Boards that oversee those companies are supposedly not competent to determine compensation in the open market.

Oh. Who is next? Well, since the "overreaching interpretation of the 'commerce clause,'" the door is open for unlimited expansion of federal intrusion into the lives of citizens (and non-citizens). Since a universal health care system is proposed (one which will not expand health care resources but might in fact limit them but which will allocate care according to the precepts and values of the central government), then doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel "should" have their compensation limited because their high pay levels would deprive beneficiaries of the health program of care.

We can go from activity to activity and industry to industry, from the financial field (banking and securities), to manufacturing (auto industry and suppliers to that industry), let your imagination be your guide but know that as wild as it is, bureaucrats will be at work providing ideas justifying eventual control of all sectors of the economy and compensation (except for the nonce probably entertainment and sports).

Goose step. Goose step. Finance., Manufacturing. Pay. What have you? You are living in an increasingly controlled economy, and one controlled by ideologues without any meaningful experience in the areas they control. The result will be immobilization and eventual total paralysis of industry. Why under Chavez in Venezuela, who observed Obama's success and rapid acquisition of control of the means of production in the U.S., with the substitution of political hacks in the Venezuelan oil industry, production has fallen some 30% with greater drops of course, inevitable.

Please remember to address "the authorities" with deference, respect, and love. Henceforth refer to Obama and successive members of his dynasty as "Comrade Dear Leader."

"Phillies continue to rule,"

yeah, that's why they can't beat the Dodgers at home.
