Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Thursday, June 04, 2009

Several people have recently asked me if the Obama administration's tough line towards Israel's settlements and its insistence on a two-state solution invalidates the arguments that John Mearsheimer and I made about the political influence of the "Israel lobby." Not surprisingly, a few critics have made similar points in print. For what it's worth, I think Obama's approach is largely consistent with the views we set forth in the book, and certainly with our overall aim in writing it.

good article

I don't totally agree, but I really like the thought process and reasoning behind this:

People who think that the Israel lobby is some sort of secret Jewish conspiracy probably also believe that its influence could never be countered and that the groups within it are irredeemable. That is the essence of conspiracy theories -- and especially anti-Semitic ones--they impute dark and magical powers to some secret organization or cabal and portray it as evil, all-powerful, unchanging, and unstoppable. By contrast, those of us who see the lobby as a typical interest group engaged in the normal rough-and-tumble of democratic politics have recognized that its considerable influence (which no one seriously denies) could be mitigated or modified over time, especially once it became clear that the policies promoted by its most powerful components were in fact harmful to U.S. and Israeli interests alike.

"Second, partly because of this more open discourse, more and more people -- including Americans who care strongly about Israel's well-being -- have begun to realize that failure to achieve a two-state solution is jeopardizing Israel's long-term future"

no kidding....

*****Is the Israel Lobby getting weaker? *****

........yes........Obama is more even handed than the previous admin.......

......fairness may not solve anything, but it's thrown a new wrinkle into the equation........should be fun to watch.......

Popular Rabbi's Comments on Treatment of Arabs Show a Different Side of Chabad

But Friedman, who today travels the country as a Chabad speaker, showed a less warm and cuddly side when he was asked how he thinks Jews should treat their Arab neighbors.

"The only way to fight a moral war is the Jewish way: Destroy their holy sites. Kill men, women and children (and cattle)," Friedman wrote in response to the question posed by Moment Magazine for its "Ask the Rabbis" feature.

Friedman argued that if Israel followed this wisdom, there would be "no civilian casualties, no children in the line of fire, no false sense of righteousness, in fact, no war."

"I don't believe in Western morality," he wrote. "Living by Torah values will make us a light unto the nations who suffer defeat because of a disastrous morality of human invention.

All Israeli need to be removed from the Pentagon. What the fuck is wrong with it's employees? Are they all Israeli now? Did they do some "mass immigration/conversion"?

Israel will always remain a threat to world peace so long as they waggle their WMD's and Zionists are at the helm.

Again, could they be threatened into removing themselves peacefully or would directed action affecting millions work better? Perhaps a plague? Nobody would want to either: 1. go to Israel. 2. be known as Israeli.

Operation Rescue sounds nice compared to this rabid fellow?

Bani,
The Chabad-Lubavitch is basically the Jewish Taliban. They even hate people like me and claim I am a betrayer to my faith because I practice different Judisim than they do. They are the ones in parts of New York, for example, who stone cars that drive on Saturday. They are freaks and worse than Zionists IMHO and, even though I am a Jew, I hate Zionists.

Thomas Friedman was once brave. This New York Times columnist and author established his reputation reporting on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. His early work gave objective accounts of the suffering of the Palestinian people, placed blame for the failed peace talks squarely on the Israeli government, and exposed the undue influence that pro-Israel lobbyists wield on policies of the U.S. government.

Then the Israel lobby went to work on him.

Tom graduated from St. Louis Park High School...same school where I met Al Franken over a year ago where he went to Blake nearby with my brother.

They are freaks and worse than Zionists IMHO and, even though I am a Jew, I hate Zionists.

My home computer is dead, so sorry it took me so long to respond. Yes, it does suck and I can with most Muslims because my faith also gets a bad rap due to the actions of a few very loud and wrong people. Israel does something and Jews world wide take the hit. I am hated by some for the actions of a nation I have nothing to do with simply because we share a faith. It really sucks.
