ABC News has confirmed that Air France received a bomb threat over the phone concerning a flight from Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Paris just days before Air France flight 447 disappeared over the Atlantic Ocean Sunday night.

We may never know. But I would think if it were terrorist-related someone would have claimed credit for it by now.

too bad they don't make the planes out of the same stuff they make the black box out of...

Aflakababble will be along soon to tell us it is Obama's fault.

Having the debris spread out over two main areas 35 miles apart would seem to indicate the plane split in two. This does not sound good.

All electrical components went haywire, and both pilots were unable to communicate any problems over the radio which is another sign of an instantaneous event -- good case for concluding a bomb went off.'

If Air France had a bomb threat but neglected to do a continual check on future flights to look for explosive devices they'd be liable, wouldn't they?

If it was a bomb, it was set to go off when the plane was over such a wide span of water it's going to be impossible to recover the black box.

If it was a bomb, I wonder if it was a passenger (jihadist?) who set it off or if it was done by remote control?

This is big news. Heard it on the radio this morning. RCADE should put this on the Front Page.

Again, the one thing that makes me think it might not have been a bomb is that no one has claimed credit for it. Usually by this point some group or the other has.

Obviously still waiting for more news. However, the Bojinka operation does come to mind. Makes no difference to those who've been killed and those who loved them, but I sure do hope this isn't what happened.

I'll bet truth be known, the airlines get bomb threats daily, but they don't publicize it for obvious reasons.

Same here. I heard that this plane was one of the comparably few that used electronic controls instead of "wires" to manipulate the aicraft.

And WHY would airlines not have GPS installed??

Curious minds.

But if you're going to bomb an airplane... why phone in a threat? Why not just blow it up or if you want the attention leak the threat to the media? Of course the types of people who blow up a plane probably aren't going to behaving all that logically.

because most don't phone in the threat in order to blow up a plane-- they blow up a plane in order to phone in the threat.

Of course if they made the entire plane out of the same stuff they make the black boxes, they would not be able to fly really.

This is a good point San---I am wondering though if it was a bomb--that those responsible would only want to see how this went down and not bring any heat?

They phoned in the threat--maybe have someone on the ground to monitor what the airline does to check or not check a plane threat.

Then they blow it up over the worse part of the Atlantic geological-wise. The bottom at this area is like the Andes mountains underwater.
-------

There was a report that another pilot going the opposite way (?) noticed something burning on top of the ocean heading over the area. It looked like a plane.

-----

These planes are designed to take a lightening strike. And they have limited radio because there is no satellite contact --no towers like here in the US--in this area.

Once they have their flight plan and path--they go with it. If they want to avoid bad weather--it's kinda difficult because they have to contact someone to notify them of the changes to avoid mid-air collisions.

They could get lucky and find some debris and maybe the black box.

Very sad for the families.
