Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Consumer Reports managing editor of autos Jon Linkov said buyers may get a steal at the dealership, as car companies continue to fail. "Chrysler's really dumped maybe 50 percent of their inventory so far since the beginning of the announcement, General Motors is going to have a lot of inventory they want to dump," he said, "so this is a good opportunity to go and buy."

Summer's coming so don't forget the $4 per gallon gas. Might be a good time to buy a bicycle.

my family thinks i'm nutz, but i've wanted one of these type cars for the longest time - i want to cherry it out! there is a black one for sale locally, but it has quite a bit of hail damage - we could probably get it for a good price. if i could have one of those i'd give our son my dodge charger.

You would give away a nice new Dodge Charger for a 70's model wood-paneled station wagon?

Girl, wtf is the matter with you? Wait, you're not gonna turn it into one of those monster trucks are you?

Probably a good time given the dollar is about to tank.

For those of you who think Obama is different than Bush, you might want to get an education. Schiff spells it out, and every minute is worth listening to:

www.youtube.com

Gee, if we could just find jobs we can buy these cars!

#3 | Posted by Lipzoidial

no, i would restore it to spankin' new! of course real cherry or mahogany on the side would be beauty!

i spent nine hours roaming around with our son yesterday and he handled the charger like a champ and will be commuting for work and college the first year - i only go about once a week to town and when we go to the cabin i'm happy to be a passenger.

Somebody I know got a new 08 Sebring convertible from a closed dealership for $18k.

Makes me wish I would have held off on buying a year and a half ago. Of course, I also wish I wouldn't have gotten a Town & Country.

Might be a good time to buy a bicycle.

Ya..... 20 miles to town. Damn good deal. I'll pick a bike up in Oct to toughen me up.

I don't fully understand the warranty issue, government says they are good. But I understand, that when Chrysler went under the warranty/lemon laws didnt apply.

I would wait until after the respective company comes out of bankruptcy.

"Probably a good time given the dollar is about to tank."

Yeah thats another consideration, if you have take out a loan, interest rates are on the rise.

"Wait, you're not gonna turn it into one of those monster trucks are you?" - Lip

Nah, that car has "Figure 8" written all over it.

I can refi my house and pull out 80 grand then plop down and buy a car for 40K ...wait...it's not 2005 anymore is it?

If you have the cash, now is the time to buy a car.

If you have to take a loan, now is not the time to buy a car.

BOYCOTT GM

buy ford or 'others'

I can't wait for the government process to start dictating GM designs. We'll have a two-wheeled plastic eggbeater running on D-cell batteries subsidized, of course, so it undersells commonsense designs.

What a liberal pussy.

www.democraticunderground.com

Now is a good time to pay off all your credit cards and car loans and sit tight. The financial storm is not over yet.

If you have enough cash on hand to pay for a new car great...there are some good deals out there but now is not the time to increase your debt level. There is no one coming to your rescue if you fail unless, of course, you are a banker.

Sure is.

Got my eye on a new BMW too.

I wouldn't accept a Union-made GM POS if Obama personally gave it to me and included free maintenance for life.

of course not or it didnt make any difference..

its a matter of the product and business...
so all of you can take your little horse hocky comments and stick them..........................

AH danni...you thought I was going to say someplace rude didnt you.....

OH YEAH

joe dickhead biden may tell us that its our patriotic duty to pay taxes.....but dont even try and tell me its my patriotic duty to buy a chevy..

please

we only have a chevy because it was a gift otherwise we'd never purchase one.

Just bought a new Dodge Sunday, sticker was 27k, got it for 16k at a local dodge dealer that is losing their franchise after 36 years!
Just one more feather in Obama's hat as he sends our country into the shitter.

From Reuters a bit ago. Frikken Hilarious!

During one of Chavez's customary lectures on the "curse" of capitalism and the bonanzas of socialism, the Venezuelan leader made reference to GM's bankruptcy filing, which is expected to give the U.S. government a 60 percent stake in the 100-year-old former symbol of American might.

"Hey, Obama has just nationalized nothing more and nothing less than General Motors. Comrade Obama! Fidel, careful or we are going to end up to his right," Chavez joked on a live television broadcast.

The fact that this is a great time to buy a car and yet people are still not buying suggests that the public's car buying habits have permanently changed. In economic circles we call it a shift in the demand curve not a movement along the negatively sloping curve. The implications of this I will report in my next newsletter, the Doubting Thom.

When I was a kid my parents had a Lincoln LTD Station wagon with the fold up seats in the very back.

Wrong. The opposite is true.

Buying GM increases the likelihood that America will fail.

The U.S. Government needs to focus on defending this country and cleaning up the corruption that exists at all levels of government.

The U.S. Government owning and running private corporations is the surest, quickest path to America's downfall.

Here's what GM's new line looks like.

IVE Got to get me one of those

wont ever have to walk to the fridge from the tv again...........nice

Let GM fail. The road to Hell is paved with good intent and America is already saddled with too much debt to take on more.

the kind where you could look OUT the back window without craning your neck? I LOVE THOSE!

#33 | Posted by nanc

Makes me smile just thinking about it. You could carry a ton of stuf in that car or about 20 kids.

but a clunker for 500 dollars and obama will give you 4,500 dollars for it as a trade in when you buy a new car,i suggest a ford fusion 41 mpg.

We had an Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in the late 60's, and then a Chrysler Town & Country station wagon (with simulated wood grain paneling on the sides!)in the early 70's.

Enormous barges - both of them.

#36 | Posted by SanAntonioRogue

our kidz have been freaking out for the past four years that i'd get one and haul them to school in it! at least that's what was threatened...then they got their licenses.

#34 | Posted by STIRSUMUP

with the proper rack, we could also put our canoe on top and fold the seats down and camp in it! we do that in the suburban now.

Here it is. I think ours was a Lincoln.

YESSIREE

WHEN CARS WERE CARS AND MEN WERE MEN...

we had one a 59 chevy with the biggest fins on the back you have ever seen...from the back at night it looked like the loch ness monster or something

and my 58 BLACK chevy was indistructable......ran over tree stumps..>(dont ask)..and fence post...(DONT ASK)...and every kind of road surface you can come with

but alas..>ONE night as I was leaving the music department parking lot...(after hours of practice and appaulse of course).. a girl just bumped the rear and the whole thing just sort of fell apart around it

AH THOSE WERE THE DAYS MY FRIEND
WE THOUGHT THEyD NEVER END..

and thats how GOD Intended man to drive...in a FULL length car and with a stick shift..

#39 | Posted by STIRSUMUP

that would be sheer comfort for my 6'2" hubby! and to think - NOBODY would want to steal it!

#40 | Posted by afkabl2

when i was about four years old, we had a beefy vehicle and i remember on the back of the front seat their was this velvety cord to hold onto when rounding corners too quickly - it was pre-seatbelt!

yes and thats another thing

how did any of us grow up without seatbelts.....

damn cop.........

Government Motors will soon have to resort to nationalized car care because there are fewer dealers to fix the cars.

Time to buy a car? NO!.......

.....but it is time to buy Car Company Stock!!

.....but it is time to buy Car Company Stock!!

I've been told in the last week the same thing by my broker an he has a damn good record.

Dodge Mega Cab 2500 Diesel. Works for me.

I bought an Infinity G 37X..... awesome car!!!!!!!

I have an '04 Eddie Bauer Expedition that pulls a 22' enclosed trailer just fine and works well for me (6'4" and quite a few extra pounds).

88K miles and good as new.

Have been very happy with Ford over the last few years. Previous vehicle was a mustang convertible that was GREAT until some kids stole it and set it on fire. Cops caught the kids, but that didn't help me none.

:(

#16 Danni> Another dittohead hoping America fails.

That reminds me of an idiot I met last weekend at an outdoor event. I'd brought along an umbrella (40% chance of rain, no shelter close by) who said:

"I didn't bring an umbrella because I'm hoping it won't rain."

Duh!

I bought an 08 Tundra. There is no truck that can even come close, in my opinion. I actually hope GM will build cars people actually want to drive. Otherwise, they will go the way of the Yugo. The Yugo died because no one wanted it. The ecoidiots would have only small cars. But the choice to buy what you want should always be there. Just because you wouldnt drive a chinese hummer doesnt mean I should have the choice to chose it.

And if the union stays in control of GM, they are doomed anyway....

Why is GM doomed if the union is in control? (And having majority stake does not mean you get to be in control... I'm assuming there will still be a board of directors...) But seriously, is there logic to the argument, or are you just repeating anti-union mantras?

When they start selling cars at WalMart..

Does anyone in their right mind spend money they need for medical costs, rent, kids and food on a new car? No. Working class folks have to find junkers. Are there any employment opportunities that allow for purchase of a new vehicle? No. We're not going to get a decent wage, let alone benefits - all costs have increased and burden the worker to the point of bankruptcy. The last contract for H&R Block we had three masters degrees out of seven people. Education and capability doesn't get you employed where everything is outsourced. I've never even considered "new", it's simply unrealistic.

This is the most profound analysis of GM I have seen yet.
