Florida Rep. Alcee Hastings spent $24,730 in taxpayer money last year to lease a 2008 luxury Lexus hybrid sedan. Ohio Rep. Michael Turner expensed a $1,435 digital camera. Eni Faleomavaega, the House delegate from American Samoa, bought two 46-inch Sony TVs, according to an examination of U.S. lawmakers' expense claims.

I read this on Saturday, and it is the Wall Street Journal's attempt to make the legislative branch look as bad as England's Parliament. Unfortunately there is nothing wrong with what is going on here, as pointed out in the paragraph Kerrin so conveniently decided to leave out:

The expenditures were legal, properly accounted for and drawn from allowances the U.S. government grants to lawmakers. Equipment purchased with office expense accounts must be returned to the House or the federal General Services Administration when a lawmaker leaves office.

Eni Faleomavaega . . . sounds like a Dem name.

"The expenditures were legal."

Just because something is legal does not mean it is right. If it is legal for US representatives to spend $1,435 on digital cameras, then perhaps it should be illegal.

When it is illegal-prosecute them.
Until then-keep whining like a little pants-pissing bitch.

It makes you look soooooo intelligent.

OMG, look who is giving advice on "pants-pissing".

Frank 2.5 keeps his garage full of depends and here he is accusing others of it.

So Frankie...you are calling me a pants-pissing bitch?

Damn straight I will question the extravagant budgets and questionable spending of said allowances when gov is broke.

So, let me get this straight. Someone makes known something they find unethical but legal so that they and others who feel that way can try to make a change. But you say to shut up until it is illegal?

I'm not quite sure how they would get change under your dictatorial rule. Maybe that's why fascists think like that.

well at least they didnt USE TAX PAYER MONEY and fly to new york and disrupt traffic and restuarants and all that just for a date....

OOPS>...someone did...now who would that be

and at the same time that Gm workers are wondering where the next paycheck will come...

Bush's pet project was Iraq, Inc, which will end up costing us multiple trillions.

Lowering taxes while he planned a massive increase in government and war ws akin to someone with credit card debt saying "I'll double the debt on the card and cut back from 40 hours a week".

Consider the source, people. The Wall Street Journal has become a shit stained tabloid unfit to wrap 3 day old fish with since Murdoch bought it and fired all the people with more than two functioning brain cells.

I hear Alex Jones is going to be editor in chief next month.

Oh--I get it--It's only out of line when R's do it and not when the D's do it.

Check.

How is that koolaid?

But...but...that's different

The Left

TERM LIMITS

12 years tops and out!

You gotta love it:

Alcee Lamar Hastings (born September 5, 1936) is a member of the United States House of Representatives representing Florida's 23rd congressional district (map).
A Representative since 1993 and a Democrat, Hastings was previously a lawyer and judge.

He spent ten years as a federal judge (1979-1989), but was impeached and removed from office for corruption and perjury.

He is only the sixth federal judge to be impeached and removed from office in American history.

Rep. Hastings purchased a 2008 luxury Lexus sedan for $24,730 using taxpayer's money.[1]

Assumed office
January 3, 1993
Preceded by None (District Created After 1990 Census)

He is only the sixth federal judge to be impeached and removed from office in American history.

I know one who had to resign or face impeachment. Irony: He was appointed by Richard Nixon. He died a few years ago.

How did he get a new Lexus for $24k?

Ah well, nothing to see here. Just a bunch of Dems who love their bling, and their voters who will be passing the bill to our grandkids, after borrowing the money from Beijing. KaCHING! No pun intended.

Florida Rep. Alcee Hastings spent $24,730 in taxpayer money last year to lease a 2008 luxury Lexus hybrid sedan

?????

Huh? 24K for ONE YEAR OF A LEASE?? After the two year lease, they could have purchased it outright!

I understand that these are politicians, but couldn't they at least PRETEND they care about our tax dollars and not drop 24K ON A LEASE!?!?!

Just because something is legal does not mean it is right.

Joe's got a point. These guys should be stepping up and cutting back like the rest of the country.

And aflac-how about Bush flying round trip from Buttfuck Texas on AF1 just to sign the recognizably unconstitutional schiavo bill to appease the evanjihadists?

The runway as seen from 20,000 feet:

www.wyomingway.com

he would fly into Texs State Technical College in Waco. then he takes a helo flight to the ranch. they also do maintennce on AF 1 there. saw it when I lived there in the 80's. saw a helo flight in Crawford while visiting a friend there 2 years ago.

funny all the deflecting going on here by the dems. I wonder how 'Bama likes his new comapany...

These pukes in government "service" are the ruling class that our founding fathers sought to avoid.

Can we talk about term limits now?

Out them all, oust them all.

we need to cut that shit right now.

This is by far the second most pathetic attempt by the rightards to try and paint Obama in a bad light.

The first was that half-cocked "he puts mustard on a burger" rant you 'tards blathered on about.

So what is it your really upset about (besides the whole 'darky' in the WH thing)? Is it the lack of sacrifice?

You're right.....the way Bush gave up Golf during the last year of his presidency to show his support for all the troops who he sent to die....What a real sacrifice that must have been...NOW WATCH THIS DRIVE!!

When it is illegal-prosecute them.

I guess I was wrong about you Francis. You're not old enough to have a husband just yet.

Grown people know the difference between legal, but not ethical versus illegal. Why can't senators and representatives run their offices on less money? Why can't they manage to take a flight home without breaking the bank?

They're not fucking royalty. Let them fly coach.

I read this on Saturday, and it is the Wall Street Journal's attempt to make the legislative branch look as bad as England's Parliament. Unfortunately there is nothing wrong with what is going on here, as pointed out in the paragraph Kerrin so conveniently decided to leave out:

According to the news report I heard on NPR the past few trips to work, it's legal for England's Parliament too.

Shall we give the senators and representatives Lordships?

You mean like going to sing happy birthday to John McCain on the taxpayer dime while a hurricane was destroying a major US city.

Or using AF One to do a flyover at a NASCAR race on the public dime?

Can we talk about term limits now?

#28 | Posted by Ari at 2009-06-02 01:14 AM

I am all for it.

Funny thing is that one of the major parties campaign in the 1990's on term limits, won power based on that promise then did nothing about it.

Hmmmmmmm......

In other news....

the sky is still blue
men hide their porn use
if a frog had wings it wouldn't bump his arse a-hoppin'...

Agreed...The obama date was not out of line with what any other prez has done.

Just terribly hypocritical of THE ONE.

"we're going to have to embrace a culture of responsibility, all of us, corporations, the federal government, & individuals who may be living beyond their means."
"If less money is coming in,.... Maybe you don't go out to dinner as much. Maybe you put off buying a new car. That's not what happens in Washington."

Oh and... be sure you control of that thermostat!

won power based on that promise then did nothing about it.

Hmmmmmmm......

Add to that the last 8 years of spending like democrats .

Then they wonder why their party is shot!

I can't imagine how anyone would spend $24,000 a year for any car except maybe a Rolls-Royce, Ferrari... A Lexus? Gimme a fucking break.

Send this spoiled bitch to an economics class.

So they tell us that we are on the verge of dropping into a economic abyss and that citizens should reign in spending and cut our costs then go blow thousands individually and possibly millions as a whole. Wow, I guess some people ARE more equal than others. Welcome to the Farm.

And aflac-how about Bush flying round trip from Buttfuck Texas on AF1 just to sign the recognizably unconstitutional schiavo bill to appease the evanjihadists?

How bout bush buzzing the statue of liberty with AF1 and taking his wife on a date to NYC. Remember when bush went to Nevada and Calif for a little campaign swing for uncle harry? He is one low life SOB.

77 trips to Crawford - 490 days "clearing brush".

how many times do i need to scream it before other people listen?

TERM LIMITS!!! NO MORE CAREER POLITICIANS!!!

I didn't know Bush was president in the 80s.

what saddens me even more is that the drudge reports comments read like a bunch of 5th graders with no manners fighting with each other. pants pissing? when you raise either the harshness of you voice or your speech, the people around you stop listening. if people do not listen to you then you will NEVER convince them you are correct on anything, therefore everything you say becomes irrelevant. i assume most of you have at the very least minimal education, but i can't tell from reading these comments. try leaving your petty hatred at the door when making a decision instead of trying to find the most clever and hateful zing. this is exactly the kind of behavior that is the core of many of our problems among the government and in the public.

TERM LIMITS!!! NO MORE CAREER POLITICIANS!!!

Amen. Also never trust a person who has a License to practice Law but runs for Office for 20 years instead. Something aint right with folks like that.

Rep. Hastings, a Democrat, and Rep. Turner, a Republican, made their purchases in the third quarter. Rep. Faleomavaega, a Democrat, bought the TVs for $1,473 apiece in mid-November. Spokespeople for the three didn't return requests for comment.
Looks like a bipartisan problem to me. 2 Dems, 1 Repub. Fuck them all.

Not surprising that partisan tards go back and forth pointing at the other party while both parties fuck them over.

Bumfuck is in Egypt. Buttfuck is in Texas, though I confess I don't know where. I wouldn't be surprised if it is very, very close to Austin, though.

So let me just get this clear...

You thought it was wrong for the left to "call names" and "spew venom" about your boyfriend. You didn't like it, and criticized and mocked people for doing it.

But NOW, all of a sudden it becomes an excuse for you to do exactly the same thing?

Do I have it right?

DAMN you are right

sorry about that

I heard that northguy went to BUTTFUCK and enjoyed it so much HE STAYED THERE..

get it
get it
get it
its a pun....

oh my...I just cant believe it...

"How did he get a new Lexus for $24k?

The stupid runs strong in this one.

".....We are out of Money; Now if you would excuse me, my wife and I have to go to a Broadway show after we eat a 150$ a plate dinner and wash it down with a nice 300$ bottle of vino!"

New boss same as the old boss.

Constitutionally it doesn't seem like we can put term limits on pols but there is nothing in the constitution that states the size of their office budgets. If we reduced their office budgets, maybe we could get them to limit their terms.

We got Term limits on the President so i see no legal issue with doing it to the Legislative Branch.

As long as it's a Cessna 195. i179.photobucket.com

So the purchases were legal huh, and who made them legal?

Just another example of how disconnected, elitist, and useless the majority of federal congresspeople are, regardless of party.

I wish, somehow, we'd get a "RE-ELECT NOBODY" movement going. it wouldn't stop this crap forever, but it would send a message that would shake Washington up for a long time.
