Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

An Oklahoma Highway patrolman stopped an ambulance taking a patient to the hospital Sunday and fought with a paramedic after the ambulance did not yield, an incident caught on video. "the officer got out of his vehicle in a state of rage," paramedic Maurice White Jr. claimed.

Comment? It pays to be a cop. Being a private citizen can get you killed.

I should've been a cop?

That you had a lousy set of friends?

After watching the video again, the black guy in a red shirt (that was resisting arrest / was roughed up -- depending on your personal leanings) appeared to be the husband of the patient, not the driver or a member of the crew.

Haven't seen anything about this except the video. And no idea what caused the altercation. Could be the cop was being an ass... could be the guy had a warrant, could be any of a number of things.

Interesting to see the verdict.

OOOOOOOOOOklahoma, where the Troopers come Storming through the plains.

No excuse fer this one.

None wotsoever.

Fire the cops involved.

Be Well.

"Haven't seen anything about this except the video. And no idea what caused the altercation. Could be the cop was being an ass... could be the guy had a warrant, could be any of a number of things."

It doesn't matter. It's unacceptable that this occurred.

The troopers should have followed the ambulance (if they were really jonesin' for a fight, they could have gone ahead with their lights on) and dealt with it at the hospital.

Cops white, driver black.

"And when we saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay (BLAM!) 'yip I yo-eee KKK!!!' You're doin' fine Oklahoma, Oklahoma OK"

I had started a long post, but thought I would go back and add this at the start. Are you wanting to get to the truth, or do you just want an excuse to beat up on the cops.

I understand lots of people hate cops just because they wear a badge, or from past experiences, or cause they worry about being caught smoking dope or diddling little boys... and if you fall into one of those categories, there is no real reason to read further.

Did you see the same video I did? The person being "hassled" said it was his wife going to the hospital, I think. [please correct me if that is wrong]

So, a cop sees an Ambulance speeding, but with no lights on. This might be an emergency, but it might be 2 guys with the munchies making a taco bell run. If they are not working, they have no more right to speed than you or I do. Cop hits the lights. What happened from there, who knows?

Maybe the guy in question (husband / driver / ? ) was aggressive? Was his actions BEFORE the incident on the side of the Ambulance shown somewhere, like the dash cams from the police cars? If so, where are they? Do they show what was said and done?

A few seconds of one side of the end of an argument doesn't present enough info to make a decision about the guilt or innocent of any of these people.

I don't know if this was bad cops or bad / mouthy perp. Neither do you, probably, at this point. I would like a little more info before someone suggests getting a rope.

What the hell is the matter with you bringing logic into the equation?

This is the Drudge Retort damnit!

I sort of agree with you with one exception.

Who the fuck ever told cops that their job was to react agressively to a 'mouthy' civilian?

We need to start weeding out these cops (the ones that have freudian issues) before this gets out of hand and americans take the law into it's own hands. Or worse yet, before we start assuming that every single cop is bad.

And around here that pays about $18 to $20 per hour.

Maybe the cops were drunk.

"This might be an emergency, but it might be 2 guys with the munchies making a taco bell run. If they are not working, they have no more right to speed than you or I do."

This mentality is part of the problem. Everyone who's not a cop must be doing something wrong and therefore the cops are justified in hassling them. Well bullshit. If I saw an ambulance speeding without lights on, I'd figure it was someone going to the hospital but not close to dying, not that they were "making a taco bell run." Why do you automatically assume they must be doing something wrong?

"Maybe the guy in question (husband / driver / ? ) was aggressive?"

So what if he was. If you were riding with a loved one to the hospital in the back of an ambulance and got pulled over wouldn't you be irritable and lippy with the cops? I probably would.

"Neither do you, probably, at this point. I would like a little more info before someone suggests getting a rope."

I love it how the "we don't have enough information to make a decision here" is always trotted out when cops do something stupid. News flash, buddy, cops are not infallible and make mistakes and SHOULD be criticized when they do (hell, I feel they should be criticized MORE given the gravity of the consequences of their actions).

The greater point you seemed to miss in your cop worship is that they made a poor judgement call. Not in getting physical with the guy in the video, but pulling over an ambulance and keeping it pulled over after they find out they ARE transporting someone to the hospital. And for what? Speeding. A non-power hungry person would have said "Oh, follow me" and went ahead of them and dealt with the speeding issue at the hospital. Instead, these guys felt the need to exert their authority in inappropriate circumstances.

"Who the fuck ever told cops that their job was to react agressively to a 'mouthy' civilian?"

Exactly.

And they wonder why we call them pigs.

Not all cops are raging assholes, but I'd say at least 85% are.

And around here that pays about $18 to $20 per hour.

I wouldn't be a cop for that shit pay. I don't have the mentality either though. I believe in arresting criminals but often the cops in my area like to lock people up for minor shit.

Someone must have pissed in that asshole's corn flakes that morning.

As a former police officer, I hope this trooper is punished, disgraced and has to pay for this the rest of his life. Sadly a good percentage of police officers are like this. He was probably just trying to show off for the female he had in his patrol car.

Cops usually care more about their own ego than the public safety. Clearly the case in this instance. Otherwise, his first concern would be the patient in the back of the ambulance and he would have addressed the alleged flipping off/failure to yield/disrespectfulness later.

Funny thing is that as a young man when I used to do alot of shit that could get me in trouble with cops, I'd defend them all the time when people would rag on them. But the more experience I've had dealing with them - officially and unofficially - the more I think that well over half of them are assholes who got into it for all the wrong reasons.

No excuse fer this one. None wotsoever. Fire the cops involved.

I guess sitting up there in the great white north gives you a clear vision of everything that happens here in the US.

"and he would have addressed the alleged flipping off/failure to yield/disrespectfulness later."

As per the flipping off/disrespectfullness, fuck em. Cops have to earn respect just like everyone else and flipping off a cop acting like an asshole should be just as consequence free as flipping off any other asshole driver. It just seems that cops think simply wearing the badge demands respect.

Many times it will be the cop that gets caught smoking pot, and diddling little boys.

Most of the cops I have ever dealt with were arrogant self righteous assholes.

I got caught with some pot when I was 19, and I was worried I would go to jail, and then the brig, because I was on leave hanging out with my friends in my home town.
The one cop checked my pockets on one side of his car, and his partner was checking the pockets of my friend on the other side. The cop that was checking mine pulled out my sack of weed and stuck it his pocket real fast. Then he said, if you don't want to go to jail just keep your mouth shut. I was happy to let him have it. It was just a sack of homer green poop anyway.

I knew another guy from college after I got out of the military. His nick name was stoney because he smoked so much weed. He wanted to become a cop so he could bang all the little teen age cop groupies, and wear the uniform. Not because he wanted to help people, or make society a better place.
Last time I saw him he had just been excepted as a Sacramento Sheriffs deputy.
ROFL

"he had just been excepted(sic)"

I'll bet.

I got stopped for speeding this morning: 72 in a 65.
Showed the Texas DPS trooper my CHL and suddenly I'm "one of the boys." In the few instances I've had interactions with police I have NEVER been treated like that. He started rationalizing how I couldn't have been speeding on purpose, it must have been that I was going down hill or my tires must be too big and how did I like my baby Glock, etc., etc..

I didn't get a ticket, either.

Cool.

"he had just been excepted(sic)"

I'll bet.???
What's your point?
I suppose you're saying I'm lying?
What ever........
Your a government employee. I'm sure you love your master...

And what was your point about the cop letting you slide? that you're cool, and cops are good?
What a riot...

"What's your point?"
"Your(sic)"

So, the cop should shoot the guy who flipped him off?

my brother calls it "dick potential." you must have dick potential to be a cop.

these guys are not dicks:

1Libertarian:
could be the guy had a warrant,
you're a nitwit, look again (check the pants), he's EMT as well as, apparently, related.

about what i quoted, care to explain exactly how that would have been known?perhaps you believe they can pull people over just to ID them?

i mean, how would the cops know of any warrant here? and don't forget you 5th amendment.
www.math.fsu.edu

why the ambulance did not have its signaling on I do not know could that be proper? it is NOT proper most places for cops, when speeding, not to have it on.

As soon as the Cops learned that they did indeed have someone in the back on the way to the Hospital, that should have been the end of the whole thing.

The officer should have said turn on your lights at the very lest and be on your way. The rest was pure Police 'douchbaggery'(TM).

I guess sitting up there in the great white north gives you a clear vision of everything that happens here in the US.

Apparently Spud is as farsighted as you are nearsighted.

Cops, for the most part, are on power trips. I wish that weren't true but it is. In my dealings with the law, officially and unofficially, I've run into more assholes than I have decent people. Usually the DPS guys aren't so bad but local cops suck more often than not.

Had this been in Texas the driver could have shot the cops.

(c) The use of force to resist an arrest or search is justified:

The Texas Constitution
Article 1 - BILL OF RIGHTS
Section 23 - RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS

"Every citizen shall have the right to keep and bear arms in the lawful defense of himself or the State; but the Legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of arms, with a view to prevent crime."

Self Defense Statutes
(Texas Penal Code)

(1) if, before the actor offers any resistance, the peace officer (or person acting at his direction) uses or attempts to use greater force than necessary to make the arrest or search; and

(2) when and to the degree the actor reasonably believes the force is immediately necessary to protect himself against the peace officer's (or other person's) use or attempted use of greater force than necessary.

Two "White Trash Honkys" in lameo Boy_Scout Hats BITE the DUST...BIG TIME!!! APPLAUSE Y'ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He might have the RIGHT to shoot at the cops, but he would most like be shot in return... so how would that help him, his wife, or the guy with the camera phone? Not to mention that some of them might be hit in the firefight.

Still... feel free to attack the police if that is your desire. Society is probably better off without you and the cops in that case.

To be honest, I really couldn't make much sense of that video. I do think that the state troopers were very belligerent toward the black man in the video footage. However, if I were trying to determine whether the troopers were out of line, I wouldn't be able to make that decision based on the video evidence alone.

If the black man was not a bigot before, he is now.
