Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

In May 2005, when the corporate world's enthusiasm for China was at its peak, I spent a few days in Beijing in the company of a bunch of top business executives from the U.S. and Europe. The occasion was a conference sponsored by my then employer, Fortune, and as I sat through the speeches and panels and dinners, I was repeatedly struck by the almost puppy-like devotion to the Middle Kingdom voiced by Western CEOs. This can't possibly last, I remember thinking. I had no real idea how it would end, though, just a vague sense that the Chinese mix of economic freedom and political repression might eventually prove combustible.

from the article:

...The Chinese government has begun turning a cold shoulder to Western corporations hoping to cash in on its consumers. Meanwhile, corporations are paying much closer attention to the risks and hidden costs of supplying their home markets with stuff made thousands of miles away in China....

It's about time.

I'm glad U.S. corporations seem to have finally came to their senses. It's about time they realized if they continued to poison half the pets in the U.S. with tainted dog food and sicken half of our country's little ones with lead-based toys because of shoddy inspections and quality control, they would likely never be able to recover their good name/reputation with the American people.

What amount of quick profit is worth destroying forever a corporation's good name and reputation.

Once trust is lost, whether it be in a person or in a company, it is one of the hardest things to regain.

I sure know how to pick 'em.

Hey no kicking I might need my nads again someday!

American corporations may come to see China as a rival meaning they'll be less likely to fight congressional crackdowns on trade.

No shit.

American and European based multinationals will eventually figure out wot the Middle Kingdom has known all along. Which is that the biggest two things the Industrialised West has left going on for it are A) Market share due to near universally successful branding and B) The technological know-how to do the actual physical manufacturing part as well as international marketing.

Having moved so many types of production to China the monopoly on B is long gone.

Knowledge is sommat that once given can never be taken away.

Which leads us to A) Successful Global branding and marketing. As more and more buyers get used to dealing with the Chinese manufacturing industry the allure of the dominant American brand names will steadily decrease as the international market starts buying comparable Chinese brand products at a reduced rate.

"May" come to see the Chinese as rivals?

Get freakin real.

Try "They already are and you still aint seen nothing yet"

Be Well.

It doesn't matter if American corps try and stop the inflow of Chinese products to America.

American products and services are already dead and gone in the rest of the world.

Many many years ago... in the mod-90s.. I started out with a US Robotics modem. Worked great.

But now everyone uses Chinese DSL modems like Huawei's stuff.

Whenever I have been able to compare any American electronic product to a similar Chinese product... no contest. American fails.

The car industry is what people all across the world know. American products are BAD.
