Ladies and Gentlemen. There are those who say we shouldn't expect too much; too much from ourselves, to much from our communities, to much from this nation.
There are those we say the past pulls us backwards, that it is too much for us to be able to break the grip of bigotry and ignorance.
There are those who stand and say we can't. Today those people are proven wrong. Those people, and their outdated ideas, are defeated because today proves together nothing can hold us back, together we can expect anything and do everything. Together we have shown the world we have no limitations, that we can change the future.
We reject as false the choice between those limited rights contained within the framework of a constitution and modern ideals that will lead this nation into a fair and just future.
Justice Sotomayor represents the expression of a hope laid down years ago that it simply isn't enough to bestow upon the citizens of this nation equal opportunities to succeed, we can and will do better than that. Instead, in this new age, we will sculpt and mold a new society where not only opportunities are guaranteed but people receive just and deserved outcomes. A future we owe our children, a future that they deserve.
Over 50 years ago Martin Luther had a dream, and we now live in a time when dreams do come true. Ladies and Gentlemen, let me be the first to introduce to you the newest member of the United States Supreme Court the right honorable Justice Sonia Sotomayo.
