Don't be a dumbass. Litigants in civil suits have to produce documents and other information in discovery that is hurtful to thier position all the time. This wasn't a criminal case, where she was invoking the 5th.

Not particularily.

The media barrage that occured both before and after her death was certainly instructive in terms of how much over-emphasis the MSM places on non-news at the expense of real news but the real concern now is with the larger trend emerging here.

Which is to say the increased stifling of free speech on the internet through overly casual or deliberately vindictive litigation.

That shiat, everybody, here and throughout blogworld, should care about.

Is not reporting a missing PC until after it is requested as evidence the legal equivilant of saying "the dog ate my book report"?

ie. Is it an act worthy of reprisal, in this case a contempt citation replete with jail time?

Easy, Trigger. I don't make my living fleecing people in civil actions, I bow to your expertise. Clearly "have to" is a subjective term though. Given the choice of defending a contempt charge or producing evidence that would prompt a multi-million dollar judgment against me, I'll take the former every time and suffer the consequences. Contempt is a criminal charge so let the Court prove her computer wasn't stolen.
