Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

A Canadian public broadcaster was criticized for airing a skit that joked about the possible assassination of U.S. President Barack Obama. "We're not racists. It will be good to have a Negro in the White House," said a host of Radio Canada's Bye Bye program on New Year's Eve. "It will be practical. Black on white, it will be easier to shoot him."

The sketch was in bad taste but even a reprimand seems like overkill

And those Canadians always used to be so polite.

Geez, it's not like they made a feature length film about assassinating the sitting president. That's for political-porn mongers like Gabriel Range

when, pray tell?

minor league idiots. shows why canada is not really taken sereously in the world.

The producers of the show denied the skits had been racist, saying they had meant to mock the characters making the offensive remarks.

* facepalm *

K, right off the bat Spud'll tell you that he AINT apologising fer ANYTHING that occurs on French Canadian radio or television.

Just won't do it.

And those Canadians always used to be so polite.

Still true as a rule but French Canadians are their own special brand of crazy.

Spud actually buys into the rationale that they weren't being racist they were jut making fun of racists. Just think they did a really piss poor job of it is all.

They don't hate Obama that's fer sure. Hell, Obama is still way more popular up here than our own sitting PM.

/Not that that's hard to do.

Be Well.

/Yup, is Spud, entering the DR
stage left.

So? Even Canada has ignorant rednecks. But they can't touch the South. We have much redder necks in our Southern States.

Just think, in the "land of the free" here I bet the Secret Service would be reaming the guy with a rolled up copy of the Patriot Act.

Hmmmm....with or without astroglide?

Goatman.

If this was a skit making fun of the racists--why are all the quotes from the racists?

Really in poor taste, not at all funny--and racist.

Nothing like the movie assinating a Bush character.

But stupid all the same.

They should see a hefty fine when they renew their license.

Of course, "Executive Action" was a fine film.

True that. I laughed my fucking ass off.

This show was broadcast in quebec, it's an annual send off show for the new year which reviews the events of the past year, hence the name bye bye 2008.

They usually hire guest producers each year, local celebrities. The pair they hired last year got in trouble for this skit, but also for 2-3 other skits that seemed to condone beating women up (patrick roy family violence headline last year) and another that portrayed pretty much every anglo canadian as a completely retarded bunch of people. The show was condemned by the media the very next day and caused quite a scandal, as the network in question is publicly funded.

A bit embarrassing. Probably no fines but a bit of sweating at the time for license renewal.

The funniest part was the number of complaints they received--200. Does this show air all over Canada?

And yeah, I think I agree--poor taste, but really, who cares?

Oh, and the headline: Rapped--get it? Rapped? *sigh* Reuters should stick to news.

Are Canukes even allowed to own guns or do they just shoot pucks at each other with sticks?

Bye bye 2008 - a show intended for people who have nothing better to do on new year's eve but watch TV. That's all you really need to know!

No Canadian has successfully attempted to be funny since Kids in the Hall ended.

Isn't Jim Gaffigan funny? I think he's pretty near hilarious.

#19 | Posted by pragmatist

LOL. Jim Gaffigan is from Indiana. Hoosier. Canadian. I can understand the confusion.

Hope he was not kidding and did not limit it to just the clown in charge. This clown and his crew are going to get lots of people killed with the way they are running this country into the ground.

Oops. My apologies (RE Gaffigan) to those concerned. I guess I shouldn't believe what I hear. Well, he's funny anyway. : )

And ZAS--what in the world are you talking about?

You, sir, have mental problems.

Skit was in bad taste. Don't watch it. Zas, I'm about as conservative (fiscally, at least) as they come - and agree with my proudliberal friend that you have mental problems.

Good thing they didn't do that to Bush....

Oh wait... they did do that to Bush and the left here thought it was hilarious, justified and praised them. There was even a play in NYC on the topic. Not top mention a movie made about assassinating Bush that got rave reviews from the left.

First time poster, long time lurker?

Possibly a regular rtard starting up a new handle just to advocate the assasination of Obama.

Spud's guess is that post and that poster will not hang around long.

Be Well.

No Canadian has successfully attempted to be funny since Kids in the Hall ended.

Check out "Corner Gas".

Not hip or edgy or outre just funny.

/"Little Mosque on the Prairie" is pretty good too.

Be Well.

The New Year's Eve "Bye Bye" comedy program -- shown by the French-language Radio Canada network -- generated more than 200 complaints.

French language. Says it all.

200 complaints was probably the entire audience.

Zut alors!

Wow, that's not biased at all is it? And the Canadians are the ones off base?

I have NEVER thought jokes regarding the assassination of ANY president to be funny. Ever.

With that said, I had never heard of this thing about Bush. You have to admit the assassination "jokes" run more rampant with Obama than they did with Bush.

What about Trailer Park Boys? I almost peed myself watching them.

No liberal ever wished death on Bush for the simple fact that Cheney would then become president.

Long Live Ricky, Julian, and Bubbles!

We have much redder necks in our Southern States.

Only because the sun is more direct in southern US. There are some real red necks in the great white north. They all arn't pussies like the patato head.

...patato head.

#35 | Posted by Sniper

* cue music *

You say "patato"
Spud sez "potato"

* end music *

Also...

* in best Sidney Poitier voice *

* end bad impersonation voice *

/Yes,Spud does a lousy Sidney Potier.
//So sue me.

Be Well.

/Agreed. Trailer Ark Boys is some funny shiat.

it must be the gravy.

You Birth Certificate Please...Mr.President???

Why doesn't Obama take them to court? Of course them Mr.Obama would have to produce a legal "birth certificate" and of course thats something that he just ain't gonna do!!!

Ahhh... liberals shouldn't make a big deal out of this joke --- for, after all, when Bush has been the recipient of liberal insults, liberals simply enjoyed it.

The next time a conservative president is elected, maybe liberals may not think of escaping to Canada.

More evidence emerges that Chrysler Dealer closings was politically motivated

I wrote yesterday of the possibility that Chrysler dealers who had been given the ax were disproportionately Republican - many of them large contributors to GOP candidates and the RNC.

A lawyer for Chrysler dealers facing closure as part of the automaker's bankruptcy reorganization said on Tuesday he believes Chrysler executives do not support a plan to eliminate a quarter of its retail outlets.
Lawyer Leonard Bellavia, of Bellavia Gentile & Associates, who represents some of the terminated dealers, said he deposed Chrysler President Jim Press on Tuesday and came away with the impression that Press did not support the plan.

"It became clear to us that Chrysler does not see the wisdom of terminating 25 percent of its dealers," Bellavia said. "It really wasn't Chrysler's decision. They are under enormous pressure from the President's automotive task force."

The dealer closings were not ordered by the bankruptcy judge but by the White House. This puts a whole new light on how the dealers to be closed were chosen and, more importantly, who did it.

And Jim Hoft has found an incredible piece of information. Apparently, a politically connected group of Democrats who own six Chrysler dealerships not only were allowed to keep them, but their competition was deep sixed. Hoft has a link to a blog on the Chrysler dealer shutdowns run by Joey Smith who reports:

The company is called RLJ-McLarty-Landers, and it operates six Chrysler dealerships throughout the South. All six dealerships are safe from closing. The dealer locations are:

Bentonville, AR (northwest Arkansas)
Lee's Summit, MO (south of Kansas City, MO)
Branson, MO
Olathe, KS (near Kansas City)
Bossier City, LA (near Shreveport)
Huntsville, AL

The interesting part is who the three main owners of the company are. The owners are Steve Landers (long-time car dealer, 4th-generation dealer), Thomas "Mack" McLarty (former Chief of Staff for President Clinton), and Robert Johnson (founder of Black Entertainment Television and co-owner of the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats). Landers has given money to Republicans in the past, but McLarty campaigned for Obama in 2008, and Johnson has given countless amounts of money to Democrats over the years.

This thing is getting stinkier by the hour. And it's starting to smell like rotten bananas - as in the tactic the White House is using is something you'd find in a central American banana republic and not the greatest nation on earth.

This story is about ready to explode. All the ingredients are there for a gigantic political scandal that would shake the Obama administration to its foundation and perhaps take down several high ranking officials. All that's needed is one connecting piece of evidence that would tie the White House Automotive Task Force to some political arm of the Democratic party.

Stay tuned...

Obama picked Biden for one reason....to prevent his assassination.

Who in their right or wrong mind would take Obama out when they know Biden and Pelosi, are the next two in line?

Spam much?

Bush picked Chaney to prevent assassination.

Anyway, this is a comedian making some stupid comments. You expect a comic to be insensitive - there is no story here.

Smack the Canuke with an antenna and force him to watch the Hockey Gold Medal game in the 1998 Winter Olympics again...

I think anyone involved in this should have be forced into seeking a medical treatment for thier joke..
they obviously are in need of professional treatment

lets see..
they are in canada

okay they can see a doctor in about SIX MONTHS iF THEY ARE LUCKY

( again.,...a TRANSTHREAD COMMENT>.)

sometimes I amaze myslef.

UNLESS the comedian is a right wing one who makes a joke about someone on the left such as IMUS or the like and THEN they have to be fired and insulted and hung out to dry..........

This not funny joke went way to far and at best could be described as "off color"!

"A guy says, "I'm so old that I forgot how old I am." An old woman says, "I'll tell you how old you are. Take off your clothes and bend over." The man does this. The woman says, "You're seventy four." The man says, "How can you tell?" The woman says, "You told me yesterday."

Now THAT's a joke.. from Henny Youngman..

lets see..
they are in canada
okay they can see a doctor in about SIX MONTHS iF THEY ARE LUCKY

Um...I don't know where this idea ever came from..I can go out my door..drive to my Doc and be home in less than an hour...Without an appointment...And bring home my script for med.pot..and be told by him to take another week off...go sit in my boat and fish and drink beer.

JUBAL-Give me the name of you doctor.
