About 45% of law school students have engaged in some form of cheating at least once in the previous year, according to a survey published in 2006 by Rutgers University professor Donald McCabe. The survey was based on data collected from 54 colleges and universities. McCabe found evidence that students' definition of what constitutes cheating has narrowed.

Let the lawyer bashing begin.

And these are the ones that answered the survey questions honestly. If 45% of attorneys are honest enough to admit they cheated, I wonder if the number is much, much higher

I would imagine that many of them come up with some argument in their head that convinces them that they really didn't cheat. I think part of the problem is that professors probably don't try hard enough to prevent cheating. When I was in school the fear of being kicked out for cheating while still being on the hook for my law loans was enough to keep me from pulling any stunts - my first year a handful of students were kicked out for cheating. Plus, when I was in school there was no such thing as a bathroom break during the exam, and no cell phones allowed.

Apparently Joe can't even cheat correctly.

#4 Yep, that got a funny flag from me.

You're right, LettuceSpray, I cheated in law school and still failed all of my classes. I'm posting from the public computers at the unemployment office.

You're obviously NOT posting from your law office.

Obviously. Like I said, I'm at the unemployment office. Nobody's arguing with you.

Study: 55% of law students lie

45% of Law Students Cheat

"Not the lawyers from our firm of Dewey, Cheatham, and Howe"

You have their phone number? Thanks!

Sincerely,
Joe

i'm not a lawyer, i just play one on the internets.

I wondered how you messiah graduated.

No need to worry folks they'll pick up on lying as soon as they get their first contingency case.

They can cheat at the law school, but they still have to pass the BAR.

"Apparently Joe can't even cheat correctly."

You think that's bad, his girlfriend says he fakes his orgasms.

I wondered how you messiah graduated.

If you are referring to Obama, it was Magna Cum Laude from Harvard.

If you are referring to Jesus, he was a carpenter.

The scary thing is that if their cheating rate is 45%, they're probably among the more honest groups. I can't find the links I'm looking for -- the 60 Minutes and NYT reports are mentioned in this article bvsd.fhsib.org but not linked. Cheating by college students is a real problem, though.

A study by Don McCabe of Rutgers University showed that 74 percent of high school students admitted to one or more instances of serious cheating on tests.www.washingtonpost.com
