High-profile attacks in Iraq have fallen nearly 60 percent in the past year, the U.S. military said Sunday, though violence continues to plague the northern city of Mosul, where a suicide car bomber targeting an American convoy killed one Iraqi and wounded 45 others.

wtching Taking Chance on HBO right now, very powerful movie

There were 28 high-profile attacks in April and 13 so far this month, Perkins said. Those April attacks killed about 235 people and raised fears that the security gains of the past two years were eroding.

Not safe but safer?

The best news in this article was about how next year there will be only 30-50 K non combat troops in Iraq and zero the year after that.

Also the parliament bringing a no confidence vote and the trial of the corrupt economic minister were heartening news as well.

Send a politican to jail for diverting funds to relatives?

Can a democracy really do that?

Be Well.

Hey yer talking to a guy who's democratically elected leader got caught talking brown paper bags fulla cash from arms dealer.

He aint going to jail over it.

He even, at one point, sued the government for slander regarding these charges.

He won too.

So, yeah the fact that officials can be brought to justice anywhere in the world fer that typa thing is a bit of an eye opener.

Twice as much so when the country in question is Iraq.

Be Well.

Is that what they are doing in Canada?

Now that their poster boy is no longer in office, they're having a little downturn in recruiting.

All you libs were right. The surge was a failure.

All us libs were right. Put an intelligent Democrat in the White House and things will quickly improve in iraq.

Obviously the jihadists knew with a Democrat in the WH, they had a very real chance of being defeated. They can read. They know about Nixon in VN, Reagan in Lebanon and Bush in afghanistan. They were just waiting for a bug-out, Peace With Honorable Mention II or McToast just forgetting there were troops in Iraq.

They also know Bubba kicked ass in Yugoslavia and the fear of facing a President whose party has a record of winning wars was too much for them.

Never should have been there in the first place, but its nice to see that Bush was at least able turn things around so it wasn't a complete disaster for the next administration.

Bush was at least able turn things around

Not that I agree completely, but let's give credit where credit is due.

I find it interesting that accounts are coming out of Bush finally turning a deaf ear to Cheney and listening to people on his staff that weren't totally batshit crazy in the last two years of his second term.

GOBAMA!!!!

"They also know Bubba kicked ass in Yugoslavia and the fear of facing a President whose party has a record of winning wars was too much for them."

He won a marvelous victory in Somalia too. Did a great job of punishing the bombers of the Khobar Towers, the embassies in Africa and the USS Cole. Those great victories had a lot to do with convincing the terrorists not to fly planes into the WTC. Not that he was the ONLY great warrior, Reagan won in Lebanon, Carter won in Iran, and all these victories kept terrorists frightened of the U.S....especially when Bubba was president.

OBAMA'S FAULT!

Attacks are down because we're paying off the shia's, right?

/or was that just Bush's crime. Now attacks are down for the love of Obama.

Iraq is a bit too complex for the lib mind.

Why not be more product and go back to bashing Sarah Palin's daughter.

How long do I have to wait for that to happen?

I guess you would be the ex-spert on that subject.

"Attacks down 60% in Iraq"

Wait a minute! Does that mean we are winning? I thought the liberals said we were going to lose.

Maybe that was Nancy (THE LIAR) Polosi lying again.

depends on what you define as winning, now doesnt it.

I have yet to hear an intelligent definition of winning.

You could start with FDR, or Truman, or JFK. Certainly Carter, Clinton or Obama.

And political hackery aside, the attacks are down because Bush started paying protection money to the sunni and promising them jobs in the Iraq government. Maliki ain't giving them the money or the jobs, now that he's got control of it. So the attacks are coming back up. But, since the righties made such a big deal about the purple fingers and election stuff, there's no way to take that responsibility back from the sovereign Iraqi shiacracy and resume protecting the jihadists from the shia.

Not that we'd want to.

nor, you know what doc called me when I didn't see things his way. I don't see it your way on FDR, JC, WJC or BHO. I guess that makes me stupid again. You notice I lsft JFK out of it. He would be a blue-dog dem today.

The surge was a failure.

The surge was propaganda ... what worked was paying off the bad guys. Once you stop paying them and protecting them the jihad is back on.
