Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Sunday, May 24, 2009

A little before 6:00 p.m., last Tuesday, two armed men rushed into the Reliable Discount Pharmacy in Oklahoma City, and demanded money and drugs. The store had been robbed two years earlier, a robbery in which the store's employees had been forced into a back room and severely beaten.

"The first shot got him in the head, and that slowed him down"

Ya think??

"But, but, but, the robber might have overcome he pharmacist. The pharmacist might not have gotten to his gun in time. The robber might have been smarter and shot the pharmacist first. See -- guns are no good for defense. "

Nice strawman-stuff it yourself?

Nice strawman-stuff it yourself?

???

Strawman? da bOoB has been making these exact -- I mean exact -- claims for weeks. Where have you been?

Good thing the BG didn't have a car antenna.

Memo to self: Never carry a .380 when you can carry a .45.

Never carry a .380

When a perp can get back up after a head shot, that should tell you something.

"Ersland emptied his clip into the chest of the wounded robber"

That usually works, however.

Best advice for using a .380; unless you are James Bond, aim as best you can and pull the trigger until it stops making noise.

from the article --

However, this time the store had a security system with doors armed with magnetic locks, which could only be opened from the inside. The masked-men apparently knew this and waited for someone to exit, at which time they pushed a board in front of the closing door and rushed into the pharmacy....

Well, BuffaloBob, that pretty much shoots your "an alarm and/or security system" is your first and best defense straight to hell.

Good thing the pharmacist had a semi-automatic too or he likely wouldn't be here to tell his tale.

From the article:

Here are a few facts about armed Americans:

-Armed citizens shoot and kill at least twice as many criminals as the police do every year in this country (1,527 to 606).

-A 1996 University of Chicago study concluded that states which passed concealed carry laws reduced their murder rates by 8.5 percent, rapes by 5 percent, aggravated assaults by 7 percent, and robbery by 3 percent.

-According to the National Safety Council, with guns being used 2.5 million times a year in self defense against criminals, firearms are actually used more than 80 times more often to protect lives, rather than to take lives.

-A 1979 Justice Department study concluded that of more than 32,000 attempted rapes, 32 percent were actually committed. But when a woman was armed with a gun or knife, only 3 percent of the attempted rapes were actually committed.

-Another Justice Department study found that 57 percent of felons agreed that "criminals are more worried about meeting an armed victim than they are about running the police."

Just because some moron is too stupid to clean his own gun is utterly irrelevant. Nice try.

29,569 people were killed in 2004 64,389 were injured

Anyone who breaks in to our house is likely to get shok'd - if the dogs don't scare them off first.

Apologies for the crappy focus - this quick snap was taken with my sister's old(ish) digital camera.

93,958 wounded and killed in one year

www.nytimes.com

29,569 people were killed in 2004 64,389 were injured

And considering there are about 80 MILLION gun owners in the US, that is a staggeringly SMALL number of deaths for guns to be an issue.

It is less, by about half, than the number of vehicle deaths. There were also about 100 times less injuries from firearms than from vehicles. 2.9 million people were injured and 42,636 people killed. About 115 people die every day in vehicle crashes in the United States -- one death every 13 minutes.

Guns don't kill people, Prius' do.

"29,569 people were killed in 2004 64,389 were injured"

Tobacco killed 500,000.

Next.

You know I wonder how many of those supposed Tobacco Deaths are in fact caused by the Tobacco and not something else but labeled a Tobacco related death simply because they smoked/Dipped/Snuffed.

Hidden guns - Armas escondidas

The pharmacist is a badass.

He'll fill your bottles full of pills, and he'll fill a scumbag full of lead...

I would recommend that he get a gun with a bit more stopping power... usually people don't get up from a headshot. Fortunately, he was not dealing with zombies, but next time, he might. Hopefully he's ready.

Shit.

And all I have is my G36 or my Colt New Agent in an IWB holster.

wow the staggering indifference to death and pain is amazing.

un, th, this scumbag tried to rob someone at gunpoint and then shoot him

when you do that sort of shit you forfeit your right to not get a cap busted in your ass

the truth hurts...

The store had been robbed two years earlier, a robbery in which the store's employees had been forced into a back room and severely beaten.

Rob me once? Shame on you.
Rob me twice? Shoot at you.

Nice shooting.

Be Well.

I am a firm believer in gun control... you should always be able to hit what you aim at.

So proud that this guy was from a state that won't put him in jail for defending himself.

wow the staggering indifference to death and pain is amazing.

If you'd like to bring up how many people are killed with guns, yearly, maybe you should try it in your own thread.

It would be great if, along with your links to shit that are totally unrelated to the thread topic, you offered up some commentary. Perhaps you could make an attempt at how you manage to think that the links you're posting are relevant to the topic at hand.

I am a firm believer in gun control... you should always be able to hit what you aim at.

That settles it. Mandatory target practice for all gun owners.

The precautions taken indicate that the store was probably a (may I say it) "bad" neighborhood, and making lots of money was the reason for keeping it open and exposing employees to harm. Greed. Sheer greed.

I wonder if this pharmacist won't suffer pangs of conscience after he recovers from shock and post trauma problems. After all, he has killed a poor young minority person, who wanted money and drugs.

The robbers weren't dangerous because as some lefties indicated on another thread, they are stupid and inept. They were just like those fellows who tried to bomb the synagogue. They were nature's noblemen, who should have been rehabilitated.

The weapon of choice used by the pharmacist indicates that he was not fully prepared. Either he needed a 22 long, which would penetrate most skulls, and then circulate and destroy brain tissue, an assassin's weapon of choice, or a larger caliber weapon.

The poor minority robber was apparently ill-trained and didn't really know how to use the weapon, which was probably meant more for intimidation. And besides, the pharmacist probably in some way provoked the robber to start shooting. The pharmacist should have been given victim training.

Maybe the robbers were emboldened by the stimulus package, and thought that they should also get theirs.

It's a compelling case to convince victims to be compliant and if the robber starts shooting, just beg for mercy. That way, you won't spend sleepless nights seeking forgiveness for shooting a poor young man, who needed money and drugs, and possibly could have otherwise lived a happy and productive life. Why I bet he had children and a mother, who would tell you that he is "a good boy," and that this was an atypical misstep. He probably also did poorly in school, and the school was derelict in providing him with sufficient self-esteem.

Alas, "society" has failed and not the miscreant.

"As if the attempted robbery was not enough, an angry black mob gathered outside the pharmacy later that night, shouting and accusing Ersland of being a racist because he had killed the teenaged thug, who was black."

That is some bullshit. I doubt the pharmacist considered race as he was being shot at. If you are getting shot All you care about is making sure you don't die. The crowd was a bunch of idiots.

"an angry black mob gathered outside the pharmacy later that night, shouting and accusing Ersland of being a racist because he had killed the teenaged thug, who was black"

The mob is a bunch of racists. Their position is "black kids should be able to shoot at whoever they want and the victim better fucking like it because we're going to harrass anyone who defends himself...."

if you cant understand the link, perhaps you should educate yourself, that is not my job, nor do I feel like making the attempt.

if you cant understand the link, perhaps you should educate yourself, that is not my job, nor do I feel like making the attempt.

oh I understand the link just fine.

the issue is that you've gone through several of these threads copying and pasting links while offering up no commentary.

what does an 11 year old boy who was shot accidentally have to do with someone trying to shoot a clerk in the back, but ending up with a few slugs in his chest?

The answer to rational people is nothing. Tell me. What is the answer to an irrational, overly emotional ray of sunshine such as yourself?

You offer up no commentary. You assume that the article will speak for itself and tell us your mindset. Well, it does speak for itself. You, sadly, won't tell us the point you're trying to make.

The articles are the typical one-sided statistics that convey the message that the media has been pushing for at least 3 decades. "Guns are bad. Guns kill people. Get rid of the guns."

When you come up with an opinion of your own and you're prepared to offer up some commentary, perhaps the indifference will subside. Until then keep posting the links, and continue being ignored.

My, what a little time produces. OK Dist Atty David Prater is filing 1st degree murder charges against the pharmacist.

OC pharmacist charged with murder in teen's death
May 27, 2009 15:43 EDT
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- An Oklahoma City pharmacist who shot and killed a 16-year-old would-be robber has been charged with first-degree murder.

Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater said Wednesday that 57-year-old Jerome Ersland was justified in shooting Antwun Parker once in the head on May 19. But Prater says Ersland went too far when he shot Parker five more times in the abdomen while Parker lay unconscious on the floor.

Ersland's attorney -- Irven Box -- says Ersland was protecting himself and two women inside the pharmacy.

Prater showed a security video in which two men burst into the pharmacy and one being shot. Ersland is seen chasing the second man outside before returning, walking past Parker to get a second gun then going back to Parker and opening fire.

I would say Second Degree at most. The dude was unconscious on the floor. No need to shoot any further.

"However, the other robber was now getting up off of the floor, despite the head wound."

Idiot.
