The title of this thread could have the named parties reversed and be as true either way. For The "Dick" Cheney to spout this kind of crap is a disgrace for him and all who have held the office of VP.

Terrorists are encouraged and motivated by success of attacks. They are demoralized when their efforts are to naught over an extended period of time.

Sri Lanka presents us with a study in effectiveness of anti-terrorist undertakings. A military victory was won by being relentless and inflicting great harm on the people and populations that supported the terrorist activities either actively or tacitly.

It is unfortunate that we did not and do not use unrestricted and unrestrained methods to secure information rather than restricting ourselves to the wishy-washy methods we have used. If electric shocks on genitalia work. Do it. If chopping off fingers works. Do it. If disemboweling the man's mother and wife and children before him does it. Do it. Whatever it takes.

Remember that the Jordanians "pacified" a group of terrorists by sending the leader, successively the fingers of his mother, chopped off. Strong action. Yes. But it saved the lives of many innocents, hostages who would have been killed, who were released.

We've certainly become an effete and bloodless group opposed by a relentless foe, who is unstinting in his efforts to do us harm. Destroy your enemies rather than rationalizing and justifying their actions. Who cares? The "first directive," "the primary instruction," is to prevent harm coming to you and yours. Whatever it takes.

Feel free to move to Sri Lanka then...personally I'd rather live in a country with the freedoms we were taught when I was in grade school.
