As a result, there is now a consensus among the political elite that California's governance is "fundamentally broken" and that the state is "ungovernable, unless we make tough choices", as Antonio Villaraigosa, the mayor of Los Angeles and a likely candidate for governor next year, puts it. What are those choices?

Yet the Governor is still looked upon as more than human by so many. To blame him for the states economic woes wouldn't be correct but his methods of resolving thing seems to me wanting. All we really need to for around $100 billion in donations from somewhere over the next 3/5 years and all would be well. The very thought of a tax hike just means political suicide yet is really the only reasonable answer. God forbid we should pay for the states debts with real income, far better to borrow and look stupid down the road.

Would you live in Fresno and pick grapes?

Me neither.

I've picked grapes with illegals here in the Santa Ynez Valley two years in a row.

Ain't no thang.

There's a difference between migrant farmworkers and urban thugs.
We could use a lot less of the thugs.

Cut the freebies out and a lot of lazy fucks would go pick grapes...or go hungry.

AGREED

There are many migrant workers in my area and they are for the most part decent hard working people. But they are a small fraction of the total illegal population.

You're getting really fast at stuffing those strawmen!

I just wonder how long you're going to be able to live with always being wrong?

Frank, he is not wrong. It is true that the accumulated cost of medical, law enforcement, incarceration, and the additional human resource services costs well over 8 billion a year.

Illegals send probably that much down south, money that should stay here.

Where do you live Frank?
