Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Seeing all the whininess and stupidity coming out of the GOP the last few months has made me wonder whether there is something generic to being a GOPher which tends to make their leadership so out of touch with reality. If it's not Rush spouting divisive nonsense, it's Cheney. If not Cheney, it's Hannity. If not Hannity, it's some arbitrary GOP Governor. And so forth. It seems as if every "major" GOP spokesperson has a mountain sized chip on the shoulder which interferes with rational discourse. Instead of intelligently engaging the country on the issue of torture, they prefer ad hominem attacks on Pelosi/Obama. Instead of debating the issues of Afghan/Iraq foreign policy, they prefer to make fun of Obama's teleprompter and make baseless veiled comments about Ayres/Wright.

Can somebody, anybody, point to one sane popularly acclaimed current leader of the GOP? Just one. And I mean someone who is not already being denounced by one faction or another within the GOP.

Why are the GOP so unreasonable and unstable?? It's simple when You have lied to Yourself and Your constituents long enough You have to make up charaters for Yourself. "Party of Responsibility" the "Moral Majority" etc etc etc. I find it funny that Republicans were once respected members of the opposition and now they are being ate up by bacteria in the septec tank of life.. They sinking FAST.

Larry

I think its pretty obvious what's going on... the majority of the voting population is more or less on board with Obama's policy direction, so the only card they have left to undermine that support is character assassination by a thousand papercuts. If they can succeed at that, they will also reduce support for his policies. I think that there are far superior ways to achieve that end (he's not god and his policies are far from perfect), but that's just me, and I'm no republican.

"Why are the GOP so unreasonable and unstable?"

You are confusing unreasonable with unwavering. Not that the gop has not done their share of waffling they just seem a little hesitant to change their principals based on the direction of the wind that particular instant.

" so the only card they have left to undermine that support is character assassination by a thousand papercuts."

Well part of that may be that when they do attack his policies they are met with accusations of racism.

You are confusing unreasonable with unwavering.

And you are confusing unwavering with unblinking, unthinking, unevolved, and uninformed.

It is the same reason Dems tend never to agree with other Dems: the nature of Conservatism vs Liberalism.

All Conservatives can agree on what doesn't need changing and are more rigid in their defense of anything already. Liberals see where things can be changed, but no two liberals see the same things as needing changing, nor do they agree on what it should be changed too, only that it needs changing. This makes the left appear more reasonable because they are open to the concept of change while the right is usually opposed to it. The weakness of the left is that the right can all agree on what should not change while the left fights among themselves.

Yes, yes, we all know that having a different opinion is paramount to being satan but i tend to think that sometimes it is desirable to have a little substance rather then just be "wafer thin" and blow around in a fickle wind. But that's just me, im sure there are advantages to doing whatever seems "cool" at the moment.

Well part of that may be that when they do attack his policies they are met with accusations of racism.

Fair enough... but sometimes it does appear to be patently racist. I do believe that card is overplayed.

Both sides are delusional.
The bankers control both parties.
And you people that are still playing the left vs right game, are morons.
And Obama closed GITMO.......ROFL.

"All Conservatives can agree on what doesn't need changing and are more rigid in their defense of anything already. Liberals see where things can be changed, but no two liberals see the same things as needing changing,"

?

hmm, the right wants to change many things, social security, taxes, dictatorships, spending(failed), ect... They also want to preserve certain thing, tradition, perceived morality, the constitution, the american way of life. It is both unfair and unfounded to say that just because you have a r next to your name that you want to just sit around and do nothing.

The left on the other hand only like change if it will give them free stuff, hows that for generalizations?

The trick is to give credit to someone based on merit not party affiliation. I do not believe a dems are dumb(just most) seriously though both side have something to offer but it would seem that the bigotry toward the right is extremely counterproductive. There is no definitive righty, although the left loves to paint our satirists to be just that, just like there is no definitive leftist.

Both sides are delusional.
The bankers control both parties....

Of course I agree, but sometimes one must take certain premises as given (when you know they are anything but) in order to have a conversation. Otherwise one can become the blog equivalent of a Debbie Downer.

who wrote this piece of tripe? i'm one of the most reasonable people here.

I think that Kanrei was touching on the neophobus/neophilus distinction. Nothing more.

Get in line, you loon. ;)

"I think that Kanrei was touching on the neophobus/neophilus distinction. Nothing more."

I think that is an incorrect interpretation of the parties motives. I am one of the many people that is sick of the partisanship and it has seemed to worsen into a realm of distaste and is some cases hatred. I would like to think that, as a people, we are better then that. I am coming to the depressing realization that we are not.

Why Do DemsTend To Be much More Reasonable Than Republicans?

I'm still waiting for the punch line moder8

The punchline? 60 Dems in the Senate making a filibuster-proof majority? Pretty hilarious. Are you laughing yet?

Let's not quibble over trivial differences. Each party is screwed up in their own way. Both claim to be for freedom, but their positions are anti-freedom - war vs welfare. The US has moved to a kind of a soft totalitarianism and still creeping towards hard totalitarianism.

"i'm one of the most reasonable people here."

No yer not.

Yer an idiotic, fake-fundie, shit-fer-brains lunatic.

And that's being charitable.

Why Do DemsTend To Be much More Reasonable Than Republicans?

You have got to be SHITTING me?

Thanks for the laugh.

CR: Given the current level of popularity of the GOP (approximately equivalent to a pile of buffalo shit), I would maybe take a reality break if I were you.

that's me - right in front of you!

#23 | Posted by moder8 Hopelessly clueless

There is no doubt the republicans drove away voters, but do not think for a second that they changed partys.
I think the most important indicator is the approval ratings of congress. It has changed very little among republicans and independents.
Obama wants to ram his socialist bullshit through before the midterm elections where there is the likelihood that they will not retain their filibuster proof majority.

rwd

You must be on some really good drugs rwd if you actually believe that bullshit.

the majority of the voting population is more or less on board with Obama's policy direction, so the only card they (GOP) have left to undermine that support is character assassination by a thousand papercuts.

a) 20% of dem voters couldn't find the USA on a globe

b) in reality it's simply marketing 101 - the dems dis the opponents product & "sell" their own

c) tho the repubs don't understand marketing, they will again cycle into strength ... because the dems have fooled 1 electorate they wrongly believe they can fool ALL electorates

"tho the repubs don't understand marketing..."

LOL. Ever heard of the Iraq war in response to an al Qaeda attack? They sold that one pretty effectively.

I find it funny anyone ruled by Pelosi, Reid, Murtha, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Obama, and the rest of the merry clusterfucks in the democrat party would want a conversation about reason, truth, honesty, and integrity.

You are confusing unreasonable with unwavering.

......therefore.......when the President does something as un-American as putting mustard on his hamburger.....the PARTY OF REASON must pull out all stops to inform Americans how heinous, treasonous and socialist, such a deviant condiment is.......

Um, is this post for real? Did I mistakingly log into a twilight zone episode? Or a stand up comedy routine? I guess for the DR left, if someone has an opposing point of view on anything, they must be unreasonable - which kind of makes the headline to this thread comical - well more like pitiful.

Given the current level of popularity of the GOP - DR libtard (no need to be specific here because one libtard is like the other)

The nationalist party in Germany was pretty popular for a time and we see how that worked out. Sometimes the correct view is not always the popluar one. The majority of the US also does not want Gay marriage - so your "popularity" argument can be turned either way to suit your "unreasonablenss".

how can you give an answer to a question with such a bullshit context?

Cons, libs, libertarians, fundies, commies, nazis, no. Dems, possibly.

LOL
That headline alone has me in stitches!

More Reasonable??? - Big LOL

Funny how all the wingnuts on this site pretend it is funny when somebody seriously points out how ridiculously out of touch they are.

Funny how all the wingnuts on this site pretend it is funny when somebody seriously points out how ridiculously out of touch they are.

Yeah, were pretty fucked up that way, you know having a sense of humor and all, is all of this really that serious?

Of course when people tell you that what do you do? Change? NOT BLOODY LIKELY...

Both sides are delusional.

I agree with half of that.....

"reason, truth, honesty, and integrity."

Words apparently not in Dubya or Cheney's dictionary. Carry on.

Dems aren't more reasonable than cons... people who are more open minded are more reasonable than people whose beliefs are inflexible.
